That's right, more from The Golden Filter . These guys are a great little find. This is a chugging electro/disco monster - the vocals are a little bit basic but it's a beast of a tune nonetheless. FINALLY I got my mitts on the new Plugs single - All Them Witches. It's ridiculously fat. The B-Side is great too - reminds me a bit of Hairspray Queen by Nirvana. I can't wait to hear more stuff from them - and hopefuly an album? Who knows. These guys seem to be creating what for me is the natural progression for 'Indie-Dance'. They've moved on from the thrashiness of bands like Does It Offend You, Yeah? and Goose, and have created a sound that is far more polished, stripped back and minimal. Plugs [...]

DJ Zinc is a massive legend. I remember when I was 18 I used to drive around my hometown in a clapped out Renault 5, smoking weed and listening to music with my pals. One day someone bought a 'United Dance' tape pack and put on this tape that everyone had been raving about (literally). It changed my life. The tape was DJ Zinc with MC Fearless and it was tune after tune after tune. I wish I could put that up for you to download but unfortunately I don't have the means to convert cassette to [...]

If you're in East London next weekend be sure to check out Uptownboogiedown . It's being put on by Artizan music so you can expect an evening of techno, deep house and forward thinking electronic music. Recent guests have included Charles Webster, Dj Deep, Franck Roger and May 15th's forthcoming highlight ATJAZZ!! My buddy Stevie Diamond is gonna be spinning some tunes there too... And if that's not enough, those nice chaps down at Artisan Music have been kind enough to supply us with a couple of unreleased exclusives to give to you guys as a little [...]

Having just found out about The Golden Filter we've been intrigued to find out whether their other stuff is as good as the remix of Polly Scattergood that I posted here a few of days ago. After a little hunt around, it's clear to see that EVERYTHING they have done is fat. They use sluggish, stomping Justice-esque beats, and their sound is a cross over of dirty nu-disco and proper electro. So who are they? No idea. They don't give much away on their myspace apart from the fact that they're from NYC, but [...]

Here's a techno mix from Mr. Woo, someone I've been buddies with for a very long time. It's an epic one - check out the first track and also 'Woody Woodpecker'. Rather large. If I'm feeling generous I might even stick them both up here for you guys to download in weeks to come... Hmmmm - 1st post since my house party ? Clearly I had a great time. It was a funny weekend to say the least, but fuck me some people are seriously hardcore... our party was Friday evening - I left my house for most of saturday to go to my mates and watch Ricky Hatton get chin raped, and when I returned there was still a bunch of casualties partying their asses off in the small hours of sunday morning! Goodbye livers... Anyways - today I have a juicy batch of freshies for you guys to get [...]

Word. We're throwing a HUGE house party this coming friday, so huge in fact that we've decided to hire a bouncer. Yes, I know, that sounds like a twattish thing to do, and if I went to a party that had someone on the door I'd think that the guys throwing it were going way over the top. However, we live on a really really busy road where random piss-heads roam the streets at all hours. Just last friday I watched a fight outside my bedroom window - two guys lobbing bottles at each other and rolling around in the [...]

We're big fans of the Golden Silvers here at the We Are Not A Rock Band headquarters. Their songs exude an effortless style and their lyrics are excellently written. My fave tune has to be 'True Romance'. The video is great too. It's weird, I heard the song before I saw the video and when I saw the singer, he looked exactly how I had imagined him, just with slightly different hair. Just thought I'd share that interesting fact with you. Golden Silvers - True Romance (True No. 9 blues) [...]

Right then - time for a bit of big bad dubstep bizniz. I'm not usually that keen on mashups, especially when they involve dated songs such as this Groove Armada tune but fuck a duck, this seriously goes off. Bassnectar is on the remix/mashup duties here and he's created a monster. Bassnectar - Bassnectars Superstylin Smashup More on Bassnectar: OFFICIAL SITE :: MYSPACE :: MP32S

I've been very excited these past few days because I got my mitts on the new Peaches album 'I Feel Cream'! Oh my fucking god it's amazing!!! Before I heard it I was wondering what approach Peaches, A.K.A Merrill Beth Nisker would be taking because she's been a dirty dirt bag in her previous 3 albums and lets face it, she's not getting any younger - there's only so much cock one person can take/talk about surely?? Well listening to this it seems like she hasn't had her fill just yet (ahem) and is still the dirt bag that we [...]

Ebony Bones is one crazy chick. She's also pretty talented too, a self-taught musician she writes, produces, plays her own instruments and sings all her own material. She made her self released first single 'We Know All About U' in her bedroom and it was an instant hit with the likes of Zane Lowe and Jo Wiley. Her lateset offering 'The Muzik' is out on 11th May 2009 on Sunday Best records. Here are a couple of the remixes; Ebony Bones - The Muzik (The Krays A.K.A. Yuksek and Brodinski Remix) [...]

Right - it's about time that I did a post purely geared towards dirt-bag afterparty wrongness. I'm actually quite shocked that I haven't done this yet seeing as playing music to gurners seems to be what I've always been best at. So yes, this is the post for the earlier hours of the morning. I hope you enjoy them - feel free to add comments and suggestions about tunes that you'd play yourselves! Just a note - I'm not sticking up anything too obvious like Jack Beats, Fake Blood, SebastiAn etc etc. Shadow Dancer have just released a [...]
The other day I heard that Does It Offend You, Yeah? had quit. Fortunately for us, that was complete rubbish. What is true though is that their guitarist, Morgan Quaintance, has parted company with the electro rockers to form an AMAZING new band called 'Plugs'. They really are amazing too. He is quoted as saying that he felt he had nowhere left to go and wasn't getting enough creative input in D.I.O.Y.Y. so decided to form a band where he could better express his musical abilities. Plugs' sound is much more mature and melodic than D.I.O.Y.Y, and I [...]

I've been thoroughly out of action blog-wise over the last week or so. My silence has been mainly due to my lack of home internet, but I guess I should also attribute some of the lameness to the fact that I've been partying my socks off and getting up to all manners of mischief, including playing one of the most cringe-worthy gigs I think I have EVER played on Sunday. Honestly, it was awful. But enough of that, you're only here to download tunes so I'll unleash them upon you… [...]

'No Static' by Bottin is an amazing song from the amazing label known as ' Italians Do It Better '. I met this producer in very random circumstances... We've had a spare room going in our house, and were getting people to come round to view the room (whilst secretly vetting them to see if we liked them or not). Anyway, that's how I met Ill Audio . I quickly showed him around the house and instead of talking about the spare room we ended up talking about music for about 20 minutes. He kindly agreed to let me blog his stuff and I'm glad he did cos they're great! Surely that can't have happened very often? [...]

Here's a jolly song that's getting a release just in time for summer. Just listening to it has prompted me to start thinking of festivals, barbecues and general daytime boozing shenanigans down Brick Lane. I just hope the crappy English weather holds out this year 'cos our last two summers have been pretty rubbish! Tommy Sparks is from London and his debut album comes out in May on Island Records. I wonder what's gonna be the soundtrack to summer 2009?
