After keeping this thing running for about 18 months, we've decided to call it quits. We can explain our reason for stopping by comparing the maintenance of the blog to that of a brand new pool. The first time we all dove in, it was cool, clean and refreshing, and it was like nothing any of us had experienced. Little did we know, pools need cleaning. With time, we stopped maintaining it and bacteria began growing. As the filth built up on the walls, we sat around and neglected cleaning it, and dove in less and less (Plus, the pool [...]

Here's a Hall & Oates Cover sweet song by The Bird & The Bee. If you don't have this entire album, you're seriously missing out. It's unbelievably good. The Bird & The Bee - Heard It On The Radio -Chris

Wolf Parade- Expo 86 In addition to having the coolest album cover so far this year, particularly due to the face of the kid on the right, Wolf Parade has also managed to put out an album that merely suffices when it comes to my expectations. This isn't to say this is a bad album. It's good. The problem is that Spencer and the boys have shown what amazing work they're capable of with their debut album, which keeps me waiting for when/if they'll return to [...]

Laura Veirs just stopped by Daytrotter and performed a four song set, all of material off July Flame , her most recent album. The set included: Life is Good Blues Sun Is King I Can See Your Tracks July Flame Check it out here . Perhaps Laura's most well-known song: Laura Veirs - Galaxies Laura Veirs' MySpace -Donovan

These snazzy looking dudes are The Prisonaires, a singing group of convicts from Tennessee that blew up in the 50's with their song "Just Walkin' In The Rain". I love how old this recording sounds, and I hope that someday this kind of music comes back around into popularity. Stranger things have happened. The Prisonaires - Just Walkin' In The Rain -Chris
So I have a few extra minutes here, and this story is so cool and dear to my heart that I had to spread the word to people who hadn't heard about it yet. Last year, Rage Against the Machine promised their fans that if they got their song "Killing in the Name" the Christmas No. 1 in the UK, they would put on a free concert to show their appreciation. Well, both of those things happened. What's better is that they beat out Simon Cowell's show X Factor , the winners of which had won Christmas No. 1 [...]

I put this song up there in the best-song-ever list. Uno, dos, one, two, tres, cuatro! Sam the Sham & the Pharaohs - Wooly Bully -Chris

Light Pollution- Apparitions I'm getting this thing done a day early because I will most likely be busy all day tomorrow and you people have gone too long without a hullabaloo. Today the new Ariel Pink album officially dropped (although it was leaked months ago) and it's quite good. If you haven't listened to it yet, get on that. But in an attempt to distance fork/knife from the other music sites out there with fork in the name, I'm going to recommend another release that came [...]
I don't know how it is possible, but f/k has yet to give Bob Dylan his own post. I am here to give him the respect he deserves. Bob Dylan is the shit. Bob Dlyan - House Of The Risin' Sun .bishop.

Beach Fossils- s/t So this is another one of those times where the HH is late, but ya know what? I think it's worth it this time. I won't say a lot this week because I'm very tired and don't have much to say. This debut from the hyped NY band came out the 25th, and it's been playing on my IPod as I bop around to and from work ever since. It's reverb done right, it's catchy and it's just a great little release. Hopefully [...]

I've been listening to this song nonstop for the past three days, and it's still just as good as the first time I heard it. It's simple and badass, a perfect song for the beginning of summer. Best Coast - When I'm With You -Chris
This is a little bit old, but I post it now because it's amazing and for a good cause. Regina covers "No Suprises" off OK Computer. If you're like me and you like Radiohead and Regina, you'll love this. If you're like a lot of people and love Radiohead but not really Regina, then you might think it's blasphemous but maybe you'll like it anyway! You can click here to purchase the video on iTunes -Donovan

One of the albums from last year that I really, really missed at the time was My Maudlin Career by Camera Obscura. I listened through it once and only "French Navy" stood out to me at the time, as the band played it on The Late Late Show . The other songs seemed nice enough, but didn't pop as much as French Navy. Well, as tends to happen when you listen to one song way too much, I grew a little weary of French Navy and strayed to the rest of the album where I found respite [...]

This is a killer song that our friend Liz posted a while back on The Blisslist (a must read). It's quickly become one of my go-to tunes, I think they pull off the guy-and-girl-harmonies really well. Thanks for reading, dudes, I'm climbing back on the blogging horse this summer. Faded Paper Figures - North by North -Chris

I'm posting this now instead of Wednesday because I can only assume my life will be taken over in the next few days by Red Dead Redemption . Rockstar's newest game, which I've been waiting months and months for, is finally coming out tomorrow and, from what I've been reading, it will suck the soul of whoever plays it. So if that's something you look for in a video game and have somehow missed the hype surrounding it, you might want to check that out. In addition, This Is Happening , LCD Soundsystem's follow up to the magnificent [...]

Well it's been quite some time since my last post, but summer's finally here, I'm done with school, and the sun is shining. So instead of making excuses, I'm going to give you results. Here's a little mix to get you in the summer mood with a bunch of relatively new songs that would have been featured in my Humpday Hullabaloo segment the last few weeks, had I done them. They basically correspond to Pitchfork's "Best New Music" winners, which either says something about my taste or P4k's. I haven't decided. As a side note, like I mentioned on the [...]

M.I.A. has been busy lately in anticipation of her third studio album, coming on the heels of 2007 masterpiece Kala . She's named her first two albums after her parents, so seeing as she's run out I'm curious to see what she'll name this one (unlikely to be as awesome as Piracy Funds Terrorism ). Regardless, her creativity seems to be thriving rather than diminishing as she continues, as the first two songs we've heard thusfar off the upcoming album are utterly disparate from her body of work at present. For one, neither of the songs really fit [...]
so yes, it has been a looooong while since i've posted and an even longer while since i've posted regularly, but fear not, for i am alive and well. reasons for not posting: laziness, arrested development, rock climbing, work, sleep (or lack there of), molly, taking pictures, kentucky, abby d, bob saget, gmo's, the netherlands, and cornell (as i am supposed to be working on a 10-pager right now). i will also use the excuses stated above for my musical standstill, but i am still determined to bring something good to the table. ...and [...]

It's true, things have been slow recently at f/k. We've seemingly lost Bishop forever, due to his recent love affair with rock climbing. Anyways, I was feeling the need to make you all a nice mini-mix, so I did. These four songs are all awesome, and I hope you get the chance to listen to them in some sunshine. Speaking of sunshine, you might recognize that spacey guitar sample in "Lately" from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind . Very cool. (That's the band Memoryhouse in the pic above, btw.) Okay, time for frisbee. Thanks for reading [...]
