This is what's needed to sooth the body & mind after a messy weekend. If you're not particularly feeling it, wait for the female vocals @ 0:52. Beautiful. I got this on one of those putumayo compilations for hippies. Some great "world music" on them. Don't get me started on the term "world music" though, all music is world music...apart from italo I suppose which is clearly from outer space. Think Of One - Paleto On a side note for any Dublin readers, apologies for the bus strikes this morning. I am [...]

TR-One aka Broken Audio Movement are Eddie Reynolds, Paul Reynolds & Dean Feeney from Carlow, Ireland. They've been busy rocking dancefloors like it's 1999 for the last couple of years & will be rocking the bassment of the Twisted Pepper in Dublin this Saturday from 1-3am with their quality house, techno and electro records, so get your arses down for some serious booty shaking. They'll be playing 100% vinyl through a Function 1 soundsystem which promises to be a tip top night of dancing to proper dance music played through a proper soundsystem. The [...]

Box.net account sorted peeps, all tunes listenable & dl'able again. Check back later today for an exclusive DBD mix from TR-One/Broken Audio Movement.

As you may have guessed from the title, I'm out of bandwidth on Box.net. I'm not really sure if it will come back at the start of next month, or if I have to upgrade to continue using it, so I'll be rolling with mediafire & the likes for the moment.. The Gap Band - Burn Rubber On Me [Why You Wanna Hurt Me]

Every now & then one of these songs comes along. This is seriously jaw dropping stuff from 1980. How can such a great record be so cheap on discogs ? The Gap Band - Burn Rubber On Me [Why You Wanna Hurt Me] Amazing...

I rediscovered this Cameo gem today from '85. I love the vocal delivery on this. Dynamite!! Cameo - Single Life For the sound engineers, you can hear a really obvious vocal drop in @ 0:50! It's a fair bit louder than the rest of the vocals... The rest of the production on this is solid gold though. "Just like a car I'll drive you... Out of your mind.."

Two very different versions of a great song here. The Ace version is a nice smooth 70's yacht rock groover, and the Lipps Inc version is some nice plastic synth disco from 1980. I gave the Lipps Inc version an edit to take the weak parts out, as I think they ruin the flow. It's also been given the edit treatment in a similar way by Scotland's Betty Botox, aka JD Twitch, one of the Optimo DJ's. Although the Botox edit, as with all Botox edits, is compressed beyond belief which I find seriously annoying. The damaging [...]
![Status IV - You Ain't Really Down [Acapella]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1659555_lg.jpg)
I've never been so into an acapella before, this is far superior to the full version! Again from that wondrous year of '83. There's a little percussion still in it, which makes it really easy to mix [118bpm btw]. It's crying out to be sampled. Unfortunately there's always a certain amount of magic lost when you listen to an mp3 rip of a record on a computer. Still though, get on it! Status IV - You Ain't Really Down [Acapella] *Edit* It seems there's a Jazzanova version of it, presumably with the [...]

Scribble Records have kindly made their entire back catalogue available for free download to all y'all commuters out there. First of all, here's a selection of my favourite Scribble releases. Kormac - Kormac's House Duplex Inc - Bienvenido B.D.I. - Cherry Cherry Cherry Below are links to download the entire Scribble back catalogue for free. Most of them are AIFF's which means unlike mp3 all the bits that should be there are there. This means it sounds how it's supposed to sound, which means [...]

Kleeer were so ahead of their time singing about internet connectons in the 80's. Talk about forward thinking music! This is the title track from their 1984 Deodato produced LP. Really though, every time I spin this I get a kick out of imagining they're singing about their web provider. Simple pleasures what. I posted some Hott City tunes here recently & mentioned how I thought they could do with having the vocals removed. The LP arrived yesterday so I did just that. I think this works so much better as an instrumental, everything else about it is perfect. The bass, the percussion, keys & brass are the business. Here's the original again too so you can have vocals if you wish. Everybody should take a look at this guys blog . It's dedicated to dissing "cosmic disco". I suppose I unwillingly fall into his [...]
Payday again yesterday in the Dublin Bus Towers which means another money themed song for all you commuters. I thought I'd take a quick break from disco & the likes & post some blues. 70's era Crown Heights Affair is what I both love & hate about a lot of music from the time. Insanely funky instrumentals with wack vocals over the top. This is why I find a lot of their songs highly editable, lots of funky sections asking to be looped alongside wack vocals waiting to be removed. This version lasts no more than 2 minutes 15 seconds & is basically just the last minute or so looped with a few percussion loops thrown in too. Always felt this could be built on a lot but just haven't got [...]

Not much is known round these parts about Lady Levi. She released a couple of 12"s & an LP in 1991 and seems to have disppeared into obscurity after that. Reggae wise I'm usually into older stuff than this, but this jam from '91 is just great. Lady Levi - Rude Boys [Downtown Dancehall Mix]

First Touch are a German boogie duo hailing from Manheim who've just dropped their eponymous debut LP on their own Highsteppin' Records . I'm usually a tad weary about contemporary music attempting a complete oldschool sound, but these guys are the real deal. Check out personal favourites: First Touch - So Close To You First Touch - Let Me Get Next To You Download the entire LP here for free, and if you like what you hear, leave a donation . They plan to [...]

You should see the head on me when I listen to this by myself. Scarlet for me! Whenever I play it I tend to put it on repeat for about half an hour. Absolute classic. Admittedly I still don't own it on wax so have to make do with this short version from the cd best of. Luther Vandross - Never Too Much Theo Parrish spins it with love in his brilliant "Methods Of Movement" mix which you can dl here .

I found a stash of ones & zeros on my hard drive earlier. Beside each other they form a digital copy of the LP "Aint Love Grand" by Hott City. The vocals on each of the tracks below are wack, but the bits in between are great. I've just bought a copy of the real thing so I'll edit most of the vox out when it arrives. Hott City - Peaks And Valleys Hott City - Aint Love Grand All this editing business reminds me of Milo's post [...]
![Avida - Vorrei Tanto [Alexander Robotnick]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1581508_lg.jpg)
It seems this Avida 12" I bought last year is actually a project of Alexander Robotnick's from '81 / '82. No wonder it mixes so well with Problèmes D'Amour. It would've been made with all the same gear. Listening back to this mp3 I think I might give it a little edit. I think the last 30 seconds or so would make a great intro, especially for mixing into. For more on the Avida project click here . You'll need to translate it back into Italian though if you want to fully understand it! A lot of it is [...]

Epic Shep Pettibone produced synth-pop-with-a-slighty-frees yle-feel from the husband + wife duo that was Nu Shooz, released in 1986. Tunes like this are why I think music production techniques peaked in the 80's. For pop music anyway. Nu Shooz - I Lost Your Number "It's a yellow piece of paper, that I used to have"
