So it seems the Hype Machine has missed a number of downloads due to the fact that they weren't on the main page but in the article... So I thought I'd just have a quick post featuring the downloads that the Hype Machine missed. Bad Hype Machine! Bad. The first is a really fun track from Mix n Blend's new album Look mom, no hands and the second is a Lapse revisit of the classic Planet Rock. Mix n Blend feat Fletcher & Sindy - Shall We Swing and the second is a Lapse revisit of [...]

With Mujava taking the dance world by storm last year, there is a peeked interest in local SA dance-floor electronica. Lots of things are happening for local electro producers. In fact you should read this piece already written by Ol Dirty Man, about Gazelle's Bloody Beetroot collab and a general encouraging message for local musical electricians. The Red Bull Studio roundup for this week introduces a new act to the scene and hopefully a new Electrotrash artist (and they'd be perfect for the site). Zim Dollar Bill is comprised of two prolific Cape-Tonians, Naartjie and Liver (who [...]

Lapse is back and this time he has taken the classic track Planet Rock and chopped it into little bits, keeping only a few choice pieces and sticking it all back together again with a few of his own synths and drums thrown in for good measure. Lapse takes the electro (in the truest sense of the word) classic and reworks it into a banger. Boosh! Afrika Bambaataa & Soulsonic Force - Planet Rock (Lapse Revisit) Technorati Tags: Afrika Bambaataa , Soulsonic Force , Lapse [...]

Reading the press release that accompanied our copy of "Look mom, no hands" I couldn't help but think, maybe I'll just copy and paste the whole thing and upload two tracks from the album for your downloading pleasure. If the press release is anything to go by, the album should be amazing! It is, in fact, amazing and just copy/pasting the press release would cheapen the whole thing. Oh well, I guess it's time for the review then. The album is, as they say, genre busting (ok so I got that from the press release). Mix n Blend, [...]

So the first remix of Tonight by Popskarr that I've come across is this awesome dubstep remake courtesy of the Rumney Bros. aka Biscope. The first 2:16 of the track lull you into a false sense of calmness that is completely destroyed as soon as that dirty bassline comes in (is that a Virus?). If this is the standard of remixes that we can expect I'm def. looking forward to hearing more! Grab it below. Popskarr - Tonight (Biscope Remix) Popskarr - Tonight (Biscope Remix) by [...]

Capetonian CoDeC has been making music for a while now and he decided to share some of his older stuff with us in what he is calling his "Retro Series EP". So here we are, four tracks from his past that are more in the vein of italo disco than the banging stuff he is involved with these days. It's very cool, takes me back with all the slick LoFi synths... good times! CoDeC - PC Board Factory CoDeC - Charon's Crossing CoDeC - Retro In Space [...]
Well look what the internet dragged in! Cape Town's Mix n Blend are the newest addition to our artists section. Check it out here ! They make dubsteppy, hip hoppy, jazzy electro crunk soul. Our friend Stephen from Muzikology sent us this early this morning... Don Diablo 's trademark guitarlicks, staccato basslines and distorted synths are all united in this funky little number called 'I need to know'. It will not be on his forthcoming album, but it does come in two versions, an original version and an extended mix for those who are not afraid to try shake things up in their neighbourhood disco. Do you want to get Don Diablo's forthcoming album for FREE , straight into your inbox 6 weeks ahead of release? Then [...]

I bet you're wondering why we're featuring an Italian group on a blog that is focused on South African electronic music. Ok so we have featured one or two Dutch acts in the past, but in general we tend to stick to the +27 since there are countless blogs out there dedicated to electronic music that get the songs mailed to them and thus post them long before we even know about their existence! We don't want to be one of those blogs that just reposts songs from other blogs and without the permission of the artists and/or labels. However [...]

Popskarr are Cape Towns' newest "Electro/Pop/Disco/Experimenta l/AfroPop/Epic" group consisting of chronic remixer Lapse and Angolan/Congolese/Belgium born singer IAmWaves. They have decided to inject their music with some soul. Their first single from their upcoming album is called Tonight and they were kind enough to offer it as a free download along with a remix by Mr. Vega ! They have also decided to have a remix competition, with the winner being featured on their MySpace page and possibly on the album as well! Expect a full artist bio soon, but in the mean time grab the tracks below. [...]

Although there are a considerable amount of Electronica music makers of distinction around South Africa, particularly in Pretoria and Joburg, for a long time Cape Town was considered the hub of it all. Reason being it was the hometown of African Dope Records and the wave of glitchy, beautiful and, in some cases, hip-hop influenced music by the likes of Felix La Band, Waddy Jones and his various projects, the Considerate Builder's Scheme and of course the almighty Real Estate Agents. Cape Town is still home to these artists, but it's been awhile since we've heard that distinct low-slung, glitched-out [...]

Our favourite Dutch dude Don Diablo is getting ready to release a digital E.P. at the end of November and an album (Life is a Festival) soon thereafter. As a taste of things to come, we have been sent the track 'Never Too Late', a remix by Mason and a fun little bootleg of his track 'Too Cool for School' called 'Too Cool for Amsterdam Bitch' by Hugo van Dyck! Not only that but you can get a free, digital copy of his album 6 weeks prior to its release. All you gotta do is visit www.dondiablo.com/freestuff ! I [...]

My old friend Paul Gala got in touch with me the other day and dropped this one off just in time for Halloween! Some of you may remember Paul as one of the members of South African electro band " Black Rabbit ". Black Rabbit are (sadly ) no more but Paul and Mia (the stunning vocalist from Black Rabbit) are now married and kicking it in the U.K. Paul assures me that we will be hearing a lot more from him in the future, which is awesome as he is one very [...]

The kids from Grave Danger sent me this badass mix that they did for Discotheque... Put it on your iPod and tell your boss to piss off for an hour, it will be worth it! Grave Danger - Grave The Disco Mix - SoundCloud link, 83.7MB ^5! Technorati Tags: grave danger , grave the disco Tweet This Post
I got an email from these guys and after listening to the tracks, I had to share it with you. Nobody Beats The Drum are a Dutch electro band that create a " fusion of breaks, electro, hip hop and every other form of music that whips a crowd up into a sweaty, writhing heap of body parts!" They also dress up as robots, so they have my stamp of approval! Grab the track and a remix below, go and check out their website as well [...]

Hey Electrotrash heads. Some time back you may have read a blog post about the Red Bull Music Studios down in Cape Town. Following on from that I'd like to introduce a regular Electrotrash post to do with the RB studios. As many people would agree, Cape Town is a hub of mad electronica, being the hometown of African Dope and the mid 2000 wave of brilliant glitch-hop courtesy of the Real Estates, Waddy Jones, Considerate Builders Scheme and many more. There are a whole new wave of beat-smiths, emcees and DJs coming up the ranks [...]

It's always great to get a new artist on the site, especially when it's someone from a band you have always liked! Myrid Ambre is Stephen Timm from The Buckfever Underground , and although really different (this time it's ambient electronica) it's still pretty awesome! Grab a sample track below and read more about Myrid Ambre here ! Myrid Ambre - Let The World Know Stephen has told me that the first person to guess who is doing the main vocals on the track will get a FREE copy of [...]

So Danish producer Hankat has taken the track Golden Sun by Gazelle and turned it into a beautiful minimal track that slowly builds over the course of 8 minutes and 47 seconds.
