Regular readers should recognise the name Who Killed JR as the guy who did that rad remix of Johnny Neon. In fact he is far more than that. Liver dropped if a new track the other day and i've been listening to it ever since. It's starts off with one of the filthiest bass i've heard in a while, over which synths that sound of summer day-dreams are layerd. The effect is warm and fills you with a kind of euphoria that makes your body nod to the subtle beat guiding the track. Upon seeing the Red Bull Studio Live tent and stage, and stepping into it, I felt like I had been abducted by aliens. Inside the massive jumping-castle-esque peanut shaped double dome, appropriately dubbed the Peanut, one could already see the throbbing 3000 capacity audience losing their minds to the line-up of some of the best local DJs and live electronica acts in South Africa. On top of the gobsmacked, giddy feelings, I anxiously thought to myself, "A space this big, with a sound-system of this capacity? What the hell is going to happen here?" We haven't heard from CoDeC for a while, so it was great to see this track, "The Square", sitting in my inbox. The track features a lovely lady by the name of Circe on vocals. Circe has been doing vocals on a number of HAEZER tracks over the last while, but it's rad to hear her taking more of a centre stage in a track. Check her out here ! Pretoria, South Africa, is uncannily good at producing incredibly talented musicians that are not afraid to take on unfamiliar genres within our country. Singer-songwriter Ola Kobak is no exception in this regard. She is the beautiful voice behind Fulka, a Pretoria based folktronica act. This weekend see's one of the raddest festivals hitting both the Western Cape and Gauteng at the same time! Rocking The Daisies is down at the Cloof Wine Estate in Darling, 8,9 and 10 October and Rocking The Gardens is at Emmarentia Dam in Johannesburg. The international highlight at both festivals this year will be the appearance of New Young Pony Club ...
