To start, I'll note I was quickly hooked on both Atreyu and Hollywood Undead after hearing them both on the Madden soundtrack. Thus with my limited exposure to the metal genre, I arrived at the Showbox ready for Atreyu. I arrived in time to heat up with the crowd for about fifteen minutes before the group took the stage. I must mention that this was a very all-ages crowd: along with the teen+ contingent, I saw some baby booomers and a couple of children that couldn't be more than eight. The crowd [...]

Spoon has a new album coming out soon ( Transference ) and they've already started plotting out a path to support it. Here are the first tour dates of the tour and if you don't see your city on the list I'm sure you'll get hit on the second announce. No band only plays 11 dates to support an album. Spoon: 12-03 Kansas City, MO - Midland Theatre 12-04 Boston, MA - Orpheum Theatre # 12-11 Portland, OR - Crystal Ballroom * 12-12 La [...]

Here's some fantastic news from Vinyl Vintage News : Rolling Stone talked with Bruce Springsteen's manager, Jon Landau, to find out what the Boss does after two years on the road. First up is a deluxe box set of the 1977 album Darkness on the Edge of Town. Much like the Born to Run box from 2005, the Darkness box will include a remastered version of the album, a documentary on the making of the LP and live footage from the 1978 tour that supported the album. [...]

If you follow this link here , you will be transported to the IClips website onto a page where you will have two options. The first involves money. As in if you pay them some money you can watch an entire Ween show from Red Rocks. The second option is to preview two songs from the show, namely, "Now I'm Freaking Out" and "Did You See Me?" You can access those by hitting the preview button after you follow the link. The rest is up to you and if anyone gets the whole thing, let me know [...]

More news about the world of Knowles. Last week, we told you sister Solange took indie and made pop by covering the Dirty Projectors' "Stillness is the Move." And like someone hit the inverse button, The Big Pink have taken Beyonce's song "Sweet Dreams" and gone indie. Do you feel the pull of curiosity now? Download it here and let us know what you think. Prepare to be impressed. Here's Charlotte Gainsbourg's (with a little help from Beck) "Heaven Can Wait." I'm not saying anything else, you just have to watch it.

Last Wednesday, a near capacity crowd squeezed into the Wonder Ballroom to welcome back one-time Portland resident John Darnielle and his band, the Mountain Goats . It was a welcome homecoming for Darnielle. Seemingly every chord-change and crash called forth a gigantic smile, the likes of which is more often associated with the climax of a face-melting guitar solo or a triumphant burst of pyrotechnics. Between songs, Darnielle chatted with the crowd like an old friend. During one mid-song yarn, he recounted a visit he made a few years ago to [...]

This band's electric tra-la-la is meant more for the stage - and the incredible energy its crowd feeds into it - than as a packaged recording. Ravers beware, Passing By Behind Your Eyes doesn't fail, but it does make you wish you were waving your glow sticks someplace other than your bedroom. Jason Segel of Forgetting Sarah Marshall / I Love You, Man / Freaks and Geeks fame came out last night during The Swell Season's performance in LA to play a catchy ballad about how he'd like to sleep with one of their fans. The lyrics include his "number," a boast about dick size, and jokes galore. Very funny and apparently it was written right before the show with the help of Glen Hansard and Paul Rudd. Want a couple of free tickets to Friday night's Metric show at the House of Blues? Of course you do. "How do I get them?" you likely ask. Simple: 1) Email two friends who are not yet melophobe readers, linking them to melophobe.com (or your favorite page within melophobe), and saying something enthusiastic about us. It can be enthusiastically positive. It can be enthusiastically negative, but then you have to live with the guilt of talking shit while asking for something for free. 2) Address a new email [...]

Puscifer's " V is for Viagra " tour came to the historic Moore Theater in Seattle on November 12, 2009, an intimate setting with a little over 1,400 seats. SweetHead opened the evening with eight songs, most of them sounding identical. The lead singer has a great gravelly voice a la Kim Carnes, but she shouts through her songs and needs work on her stagecraft. Maynard James Keenan appeared on a large video screen inside a tent, appearing to be confused that he was still in Seattle. [...]

Here's news on a new Interpol album via Paste : If you noticed a bit of a drop off with Interpol's last album, 2007's Our Love to Admire, you weren't alone. Says drummer Sam Fogarino, "[The album] was not our most cohesive moment… It was when reality kicked in as to where we were and where we were never going back to." Although the band has kept relatively quiet in the ensuing years, its members working chiefly on other projects, Interpol spent the spring recording its still-untitled fourth album in [...]

At the tour's request, we did not photograph the Swell Season. The photos are of the opening act Doveman. Since seeing the Swell Season 's fantastic performance at Berklee Performance Center, I've told several friends that I haven't seen "Once," the film that launched the duo of Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová and their real-life romance. Each time, I get the same reaction: my friend puts a hand to her chest and a hand on my arm, looks me straight in the eye and says, "You must see 'Once.' It's [...]
Did you wake up this morning pining for new Vampire Weekend ? Probably not, but I suspect some of you wouldn't mind some now that I've brought it up. Well here it is, a new video for the song "Cousins" off the forthcoming Contra record. If you count Youtube clips of live song performances, I believe this is song 5 off the album that we've heard, so enjoy and be just like me and continue to ruin the full album first listen experience. It's the world we live in I guess.
Here's a time killer for your morning or early afternoon in the form of another Best of the Decade List. This one is for Complex's Top 100 Music Videos of the Decade and it's pretty fun to look at. The list is based strongly in hip hop (since that's a large focus area of the magazine), but still manages to throw in plenty of videos from other genres too. And as an added bonus, Complex put every video up so you can watch as you go along. Check it out HERE .

The genre hopping alone can make Fits difficult to digest, but give it a few spins and your patience will be rewarded. White Denim isn't breaking any new ground here, but their peculiar brand of psychedelic garage rock is rambling, catchy, and loaded with enough nuance to command repeat listens. Neko Case's voice is so hypnotic to me. It's like a tractor beam and I can't resist its pull. Want an example? Good. Here's "Red Tide" from Jimmy Fallon last night.

Fuzzy psych pop, but with clean edges instead of frills, punctuated with colorful splashes thrown against the beige of indie rock's en vogue nostalgia. Four Tet and RJD2 spring to mind, but in a more homemade, backyard mood. Want a side of rhythm with your hazy instrumentals? Here you go. David Gray stopped in Seattle for a night I'll never forget. This was one of the last stops in the U.S. for new album tour, Draw The Line so it looks like you'll have to head to Europe to see him now! The opener was Lisa Hannigan , who has worked with many musicians in her career but is perhaps most recognizable from the days she collaborated with Damien Rice. She came out with her debut, Sea Sew , in 2008, and it's fantastic. Her voice is powerful, but her stage [...]
