What's the negro situation in ireland?
If you've seen Le Galaxie live recently, you'll recognise this new one from their new EP Fade 2 Forever . 'Nightcaller' is a euphoric club track featuring Laura Smyth on vocals and this vid was recorded live at Creamy Sonic Studios . The EP is launched on Saturday July 14th in Button Factory, Dubland with support from Ships, Nanu Nanu, Sleep Thieves and Adultrock. Glowsticks at the ready...

Twisting a first album Adele sample into an effusive dubstep production, Oxford man Alfie MacGibbon's 'I Made Up My Mind' has the sound of a big club track: snarky synth bleeps, mournful female vocal and headnodding percussion. Toronto rapper Price gives this one an extra dimension, like the middle of a mixtape feel. You've heard his Justin Bieber rework ? Graphics on Facebook .

Kimbra's solo iPad-assisted looped performance extraordinaire is captured beautifully for Nowness by Christopher Barrett and Luke Taylor which manipulates single-takes to make multiple Kimbras magically appear as she loops herself. You may remember this performance from SXSW.

Mumblin’ Deaf Ro's The Herring and the Brine album is one of the finest Irish releases of the last 10 years to my mind. It's just turned 5 years old and rather than give it a cake and a badge, Ronan Hession has marked the occasion by making the album free for download. Here's what I said about it back in 2007: A lo-fi folk release with a distinctly Irish story-telling slant, Ronan Hession’s second album is tale-driven with meditations on drowning, priesthood, presidential regret, murder by two sisters [...]

St. Vincent and David Byrne have recorded an album called Love This Giant together. The pair have been working on music since 2009 when they were intially asked to collaborate on a track for charity. Rather than do just one track, they went the whole hog and the central theme of the record is the use of a brass band. From the sound of first track - 'Who', it's an inspired theme; both Byrne and Clark's voices are suited to the brass instrumentation and Clark's recent guitar work has echoed the sound of brass parps of late. [...]

In which Aoife and I play a plethora of amazing tunes from the last few months, remind ourselves why Purity Ring is a weird band name, why bands need to stop releasing demos as finished tracks, take a brief exploration into '80s fanzine-assisted electronica, and inadvertently insult loads of people throughout the podcast. Oops. Enjoy. MP3: Nialler9 Podcast #40 Podcast #40 -Tracklisting [...]

After releasing two good EPs in the form of Coastal Hubs For Chivalry and Waiting For The Third Second Chance, Donegal man Keith Mannion's SlowPlaceLikeHome project has produced its most fruitful collection of songs yet. Taken together, the eight tracks and 37 minutes on There Go The Lights Again are the best songs Mannion has written yet shifting from starry-eyed synth and vocal intro of 'You're So Square, You've Got Corners', the Air-esque voyage to the moon feel of 'Dr. Astro Goes Ballistic', the vocodered 'Shady Jane' and [...]

After yet another unfortunate bout of illness in which he battled liver disease, Jason Pierce got himself back on track with a new album Sweet Heart Sweet Light in a classic Spiritualized vein released earlier this year. Having already technically died twice and now in a good place, the album revels in a serene and soulful gospel rock 'n' roll songs. Ahead of the band's Body & Soul appearance next weekend ( win tickets ), here's an interview I did with Pierce earlier in the year about his new album... [...]

Jack Colleran kicks off a US tour today where he'll be playing shows with Beat Connection, White Arrows and Hundred In The Hands (how far he's come from skyving off his Leaving Cert studies to make tunes) so to celebrate he's gifted a new airy yet more complex Mmoths track 'Folding' for download . He also remixed Vacationer and Rolling Stone debuted that track last week. He's worldwide.

While Planet Mu are more known for their electronic releases, they do occasionally dip into other territories and Rudi Zygadlo's new Melpomene/Arrows 73 is a fine example. Rooted in experimental and contemporary classical music, Rudi Zygadlo's feral songs mix these styles with heady dubstep rhythms and vocal ticks. The foundations of 'Melpomene' are a zippy piano melody which unfolds into '70s ballad vocals, accordion and dramatic passsages. 'B-side 'Arrow' goes through all of the above touchstones before settling on a stuttering string quartet. It's fantastical. The producer will have a second album [...]

Thanks to his myriad of productions for Young Wonder along with singer Rachel Koeman through remixes and an EP , Ian Ring, has proved himself as one of the most interesting and capable producers in Ireland. I have a feeling there's a bright future for the guy who has a great attention to detail, spatial arrangements and technical skill. The Cork duo are moving on from their debut EP with the release of this brand new track 'Lucky One', a pensive track with an exquisite offered as a free download. [...]

Adelaide's Manor aka Nathaniel Morse and Caitlin Duff follow up 'Rhodesia' with 'Afghan Hound' an equally beguiling track initially recorded in a Melbourne bedroom. This time Caitlin takes the lead vocal. Download/pay for it at Bandcamp .
