Air France – 'It Feels Good To Be Around You' (Memory Tapes Version)

Air France – 'It Feels Good To Be Around You' (Memory Tapes Version) Sweden's Air France announced they were parting ways this week, the pair were too hard on themselves and as such found it too difficult to get their music to a finished point ("nothing was ever good enough"). Making music is an imperfect process. There is no 100% completion event, music is not a video game. Air France supposedly made seven albums in their time together that was not good enough. In tribute to the pair's commitment to unattainable perfection, Memory Tapes remixed their song 'It Feels Good To Be Around You' [...]

Dirty Projectors – 'Gun Has No Trigger'

Dirty Projectors – 'Gun Has No Trigger' An indication that the DPs are planning to release an album on Domino soon comes in the form of a new track 'Gun Has No Trigger' which has dark-sided lyrics sung by Dave Longstreth set to choral voices. "But now the gate comes down / The pangs are growing dimmer / You hold a gun to your head / But the gun has no trigger."

Album of the month: Kindness – World, You Need A Change Of Mind

Album of the month: Kindness – World, You Need A Change Of Mind Opening with swirls of guitar solo notes, synth rushes and a brisk beat, the first 90 seconds of 'Seod' is an establishing shot, the pulling back the curtain reveal on opening night. Zoom in and booming, bubbling synthesizers recall a hazy black night in a '80s night club, velveteen lush with soft lighting and echoes of transparent trumpets. So begins the debut album World, You Need A Change Of Mind , from Kindness , the immersive dance project of Adam Bainbridge, an LP that is as suave as it is danceable. Exploring the mid-point [...]

Band of Blogs: Light Asylum, Electric Guest, Wild Belle & Young Man

Band of Blogs: Light Asylum, Electric Guest, Wild Belle & Young Man Every Friday, I pick out four great new music picks from the best of the music blogosphere as part of my Day & Night internet section. Follow Day & Night on Twitter or Facebook . It's out today in print with every copy of the Irish Independent. Light Asylum Coming across like Devo in full 'Whip It' mode, the agitated wonky pop of 'IPC' from this Brooklyn via Berlin band's (too much cool right?) Mexican Summer label debut is odd and compelling, [...]

The Hundred In The Hands – 'Faded'

The Hundred In The Hands - Faded (taken from forthcoming album 'Red Night')
It's been three years since I last featured The Hundred In The Hands here, the Warp-signed duo Eleanore Everdell and Jason Friedman who released 'Dressed In Dresden' a punchy, razor-sharp track but I don't remember much at all about their self-titled 2010 debut. That's two lifetimes in blog years but here they are, clutching a new album under the arm called Red Night and a business card called 'Faded' to tempt us back into their lives. It's described as one of the softer moments on the LP. For me, it recalls Austra's [...]

The Morning Benders are now POP ETC, hear new tracks

You have have heard this week that The Morning Benders have changed their name to POP ETC. The USA band finally found out that "benders" doesn't exactly have positive connotations in Europe and to their credit, after seven years as a band, they have changed their name ( full statement ). The real story here is that the band who made the lush indie 2010 album Big Echo have also changed into a new band, a pop monster obsessed by bigger more ambitious sounding songs that they had previously yearned for. This POP [...]

Dum Dum Girls – 'Coming Down' (video)

Dum Dum Girls - Coming Down [OFFICIAL VIDEO]
"Rip her to shreds." Dum Dum Girls ' Dee gets cut up in this new black and white video for my favourite Dum Dum Girls track ever. The song is taken from the band's recent Sub Pop album Only in Dreams. The video appears to be an homage to Yoko Ono's Cut Piece. It was directed by Malia James .

John Talabot remixes Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs

John Talabot remixes Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs The creator behind the intoxicating Mediterranean sun-kissed house and electronic album ƒin , John Talabot works his magic on TEED with an effervescent and mesmeric rework of 'Tapes & Money' .

The Spook of the Thirteenth Lock – 'The Brutal Here & Now' (video)

The Spook of the Thirteenth Lock - The Brutal Here & Now
Ireland's finest example of a modern trad band The Spook Of The Thirteenth Lock will release their second album The Brutal Here and Now on April 13th. I featured their 2008 self-titled debut in my eMusic top 20 Irish albums of the last five years list last week. 'The Brutal Here & Now' is the first listen of new material in nearly four years and the song is a sprightly tune "in the style of the Irish jig". The album was produced by Stephen Shannon with the [...]

Elliphant – 'TeKKno Scene'

Elliphant – 'TeKKno Scene' While we wait for Major Lazer to drop this lush-sounding Dirty Projectors' Amber Coffman collaboration, this track from Elliphant , a Stockholm lady signed to the same publishing and production company Ten as Niki & The Dove and Icona Pop. Rather than imbue their tracks with icey ambience, Elliphant go straight for your feet with hypnotic bleeping sounds and a global soundclash aesthetic. 'TeKKno Scene' is a club banger basically. Get involved. Watch the video for 'In The Jungle' which has a Leftfield bass feel. Download [...]

Listen to DJ Food's six hours of Kraftwerk covers mixes

Listen to DJ Food's six hours of Kraftwerk covers mixes DJ Food continues his pretty ADDHD excursions in tribute to electronic pioneers Kraftwerk. Six volumes of Kraftwerk related covers and inspirations in six volumes are up on Soundcloud . It's a lot to get through but with covers from The Divine Comedy, Trouble Funk, Senor Coconut, Rammstein, Souxsie & the Banshees interlaced with interview audio all appearing in Volume 1 alone, this might just be the perfect summer sunshine listening. Kraftwerk Kover Kollection Vol.1 Michael Bailey - Solid Steel [...]

iamamiwhoami – 'play'

play
Honestly, I recommend you just listen to the song before watching the video first time around. The track is a bit of a departure for iamamiwhoami , a chillwaving headnod pierced by Jonna Lee's nasal vocals. It's taken from their first album proper called kin of which 'Sever' , 'Good Worker' and 'Drops' came previously. The album will be audiovisual and out in June on Co-Op.

Sigur Ros – 'Ekki múkk'

Sigur Rós - Ekki múkk
A serene blast of melancholic resplendence courtesy of everyone's favourite instrumental Icelanders. It's easy to be cynical about Sigur Ros . Their ever-present reach for celestial heavenly sounds can be easy to disregard but it's hard not to be drawn by its beauty. 'Ekki múkk' is taken from the band's first new album proper since 2008. It's entitled Valtari , features the seven tracks outlined below and is out on May 28th on XL. Sigur Ros are playing Electric Picnic and Berlin Music Festival , Bestival amongst others [...]

Tall Ships – 'T=0′ (65daysofstatic remix)

Tall Ships – 'T=0′ (65daysofstatic remix) 65daysofstatic inject some M83-style grandiosity into Tall Ships latest single 'T=02 on this remix. I'd recommend the original song to fans of Richter Collective's roster of rock. Coincidentally, the 73 and download single is released on Big Scary Monsters who have done split releases with Richter on Adebisi Shank's albums and a couple of others. Tall Ships are on a UK tour with Los Campesinos in Europe at the moment and Maps & Atlases in the UK next month.

Watch the Gaspar Noé directed video for SebastiAn's 'Love In Motion' & hear the Rustie remix

I played this SebastiAn tune a lot when DJing last year. That beat is crunchy like a Transformer sound effect. The video for 'Love In Motion' was directed by film director Gaspar Noé who is responsible for Enter The Void and Irreversible . His visceral style suits the track's gut-punch while Mayer Hawthorne offsets that with soulful vocals. However, also like his films, the underage girl (actress Lente Tresor) doing risqué dance moves may make you feel uncomfortable. Rustie (who plays Dublin this Friday) and Skrillex are the official providers [...]

Best Coast – 'The Only Place'

Best Coast – 'The Only Place' An appropriate summer jam for the arrival of the nice weather this week, 'The Only Place' is the first single from the album of the same name and an ode to Bethany Cosetino's hometown. Best Coast's second album (see cover and tracklisting below) features production from composer Jon Brion. Time will tell whether it'll be the purported grown up record after Crazy For You's teenage nostalgia but this taster is cleaner, brighter and more widescreen. Tracklisting 1.The Only Place 2. Why I Cry [...]

Win tickets to see Breton in Dublin

BRETON Interference
Breton's M.O. appears to be quite a confusing mix of Foals-esque dynamics, avant-garde These New Puritans bits, dense electronica and a visual wing called BretonLABS . I've found their debut album Other People's Problems (out this week on Fat Cat) to be a fairly bewildering release but one that I've been drawn back to. There's something there that is magnetising. I feel like I'm at that stage where it's about to grab me by the neck and tomorrow night (Tuesday 27th) is the perfect opportunity to find out how it all translates live when they [...]

Swizz Beats – 'Street Knock' feat. A$AP Rocky & araabMUZIK

Swizz Beats – 'Street Knock' feat. A$AP Rocky & araabMUZIK An undeniable beat from araabMUZIK forms the basis for this Swizz Beats song featuring a verse from A$AP Rocky . It's taken from Swizz' forthcoming Limitless mixtape.
