I considered not even linking to it from here, making a clean break and all. But if you're still checking this site, maybe you'd like my Tumblr too.
I'm not gonna do an albums of the year list because there were hardly any full albums that I really got into. Of Montreal, Tegan and Sara, The Maccabees, Paramore and...thats about it. There were lots of albums I listened to, but hardly anything that I went back to over and over throughout the year. So that's that. There were, however, a lot of songs that I was really excited about this year. Separate from the album they appear on. I'd go back to these before the rest of the album. They defined 2007 more than any individual album, save [...]

You'd think that, going to see a band with one popular, breakthrough album, you're bound to hear both your favorite songs. So how on earth did Paramore, one of my favorite bands of the year, get through an entire 80 minute set without playing Hallelujah? That's one of my top jams of 2007! One of two songs I really went to hear. And I get jipped out. Bummer. Regardless, super fun show. Not much in the way of spectacle, aside from some the head shaking and running around, but the crowd loved it and Hayley's voice held [...]
I watch videos on MTV in the morning sometimes. Recently, they've been picking a lesser-known, or "indie" band to feature during the commercial breaks.Live clips, video bits, interviews, etc. This week is apparently MIA week, and they seem to have kicked up the in-between band exposure quite a bit. So far I've been watching for 15 minutes, and it's gone like this: Fergie video -> 20 MIA spot-> Cribs ad Featuring MIA -> a couple other ads -> 20 second MIA spot -> Daughtry Video -> 20 second MIA spot, and on. It's a lot of MIA, is all! Basically [...]

If I needed to buy a new TV, (and I don't, thanks) I'd have a hard time passing this deal up. Sure, it's refurbished, and but the warranty is still valid, so really no big deal. There are likely far better TVs out there for a few hundred more, but to get a 42" 1080p TV for $680 is a great bargain. No doubt. I would think, for most New York apartments, this would be the perfect size for a living room too, and while 1080p is still pretty useless, having it now will help quell the urge to upgrade [...]

This'll be fun... Say what you will about Wal Mart, they've got an excellent deal today and today only (OMG Cyber Monday!) for an Xbox 360. for $399, you get an 360 Premium System with HDMI out, an extra controller, a stupid looking Messenger Bag, and 3 Games (Forza 2 and Marvel are packed in, plus pick one from a list of recently released Game of the Year contenders like Halo 3, Bioshock, Orange Box, Mass Effect, etc.) [...]
Hearing the Garden crowd boo Steph every time he touched the ball was depressing. Really really low. Maybe the lowest point I've felt at a Knicks fan. You do that to the guy on the other team who talked shit in the pregame, or the guy who started a fight the last time they played. Really drastic situations. But your own point guard? Even after the shit he pulled last week? I dunno... The team is in a tough spot right now, and there is no sign that they're in any mood to turn it around. [...]

I'm gonna have a lot of free time this Thanksgiving, and I'm totally looking forward to catching up and finishing a bunch of games I've started/purchased over the last few months. First off, Orange Box, which I've actually already gotten a good chunk through already. I had never played all the way through Half Life 2, despite being a huge fan of the first one. It was phenomenal, as everyone has said. One of those games that you look back once it's all complete and just marvel [...]

First off, back to Marbury. So the Daily News reported a lot of shit the other day on Marbury. And we all ate it up cause it was scandalous and fun. But all of these reports, including the fine, the blackmail threats, the fistfight have a high chance of being a good amount bullshit. The NY Times had an article, on the other hand, about a Coney Island basketball mentor, who suddenly died the other day. There was a Memorial service the night Marbury went AWOL. I'm not saying Steph isn't a bit unhinged, or that he handled this well [...]

When I wrote the check to split a pair of Knicks season tickets last summer, I knew either the team would hold it together and finally make a legit playoff run, or flame out in a most spectacular fashion. It was only a week ago when I was giddy with the thought that the first option may be true, but oh, how the winds have shifted. We are in the midst of something special right now, and I am beyond reaction at this point. Unbelievable, really. I will be at the Garden on 11/20, when [...]

Two nights ago I went out to see Dashboard at Highline. Enjoyable show. Old crowd (maybe 21+ to get in?) Played solo/acoustic, mostly songs off his earlier albums, which was nice since I cant name three songs he's put out since '...Come to Fear the Most.' He's a major cornball with his banter, but it was slightly endearing. Full of himself, but with a roll of the eyes and a smile rather than in a completely obnoxious way. And the songs I liked were good. Especially The Best Deceptions. I liked it. Went to the Black Angels [...]
Great, great HIMYMother last night. The best of the new season so far. First off, loved how, since the narrator is talking from the future, his whole tone is that real estate would no longer be such a surefire investment. It was a great, subtle tone...never explained, just stated as future fact. Perfect. Second, Barney was in PURE FORM last night...absolutely at his most awful. The level that he took to duping that poor girl was a new low. Just wow. Then the rest...the explanation of DoWiSeTrePla at the end, Mosby Detective agency, even the whole "what they should have [...]
Knicks home opener last night was not an easy win. While I have to say, there was no point in the game where I was really concerned that they would lose, they should not have had this Wolves team hanging around with them for so long. But a win's a win, so I can't complain. Bonus points for having plenty of TVs around the Garden with the Pats/Colts game on, and for Nate Robinson's well-intentioned Smash Williams-esque "Thanks for sticking with us, we're gonna try harder this year" speech. I'll say it now, and hopefully another 20 times this season, [...]

On my way home from getting the videogame mentioned in the previous post, I walked down East 8th street on my way home. A couple stops... La Mia Pizza is closed. For renovations...to be converted into one of those Sbarro-ripoff mall pizza places, "Fratelli's Pizza." Considering Mama Mia up the block made the same change a few years back to this type of chain, this seemed inevitable, since this place had always positioned itself as a knock off of that one. Regardless, it was a decent, old school New York pizza parlor, and it [...]

I hate preordering games. It's such a scam. I don't see the reason for it to exist, except to install fear in the consumer that somehow a game will "sell out" and a willing gamer won't be able to buy. But all that said, at some point many months ago, I preordered the Collectors Edition of Stranglehold, the long delayed John Woo/Chow Yun Fat/Hard-Boiled Sequel game for the PS3. For the first time ever, a "Collectors Edition" appealed to me, because a full, high-def version of the original movie, Hard Boiled was included in the disk. I thought that was [...]
Jeez, Halloween...it was like New Years Eve out there last night! Don't these people have jobs?? So, I dressed up as Soulja Boy and went to see Ryan Adams at Hammerstein last night where, surprisingly, there weren't a whole lot of other costumes about. Good show, but man he plays for a lonnng time. Over 3 hours, with an intermission, and boy do they drag some of those songs out. We were in the first mezz, which meant a seat, but if I was standing through that whole set I think I would have been pretty miserable. [...]
I'm quite sure that I'm the only person still watching Chuck, and that's mostly understandable since the show hasn't gone anywhere since episode 3, but take my word for it when I say that there was a perfect OC parody/homage/whathaveyou last night of the scene below. This show has been good for exactly 2 great moments every week and not much else, and this was one of them. Also, [...]

Two things... I was the victim of a surprise birthday party Saturday night, which was not only the first time I was on the receiving end of such a thing, but turned out to be the best birthday I've had...probably since my Bar Mitzvah? Thanks everyone for coming, and Kelly for getting it all together. Fun fun times... I made a point to sit down and finish Bioshock this weekend after over a month hiatus turning the game on, and finally did last [...]
The office is SO BAD. How did they screw this up?? The hour long thing was an awful, awful idea. The last two episodes started ok, then Michael starts acting craaaazy, Dwight tags along, then all the rest fall into stereotypes of themselves. God. I feel like the writers were only paid for 30 minutes of show, and the rest was put together with submissions from an online contest or something. What made this show so great was the depth of the characters personalities. Michael isn't just an irrational goofball, but he's actually a talented salesman [...]

I wasn't sure if this was needed yet, but after Stereogum's off the cuff burnjob and apparently declining ratings, I feel the need to chime in here. While you, dear reader, may not care for my music recommendations any longer (don't get me started on how amazing that new Maroon 5 video is...) I'd like to think that you still take my Television tastes somewhat seriously. So here we go. Chuck is a really good show. Yes, it suffered from a bit of a mediocre second episode, but bounced back this week better than ever. [...]
