I waaaas going to just post Labyrinth Ear 's Humble Bones but then I found this Giraffage remix and - wow. Like falling face first in alphabet soup - only the soup is space, the letters are planets, and you're at the point where you are drifting off to sleep - not really awake anymore. Your smell makes me cry. Pretty much painting an image with these lyrics even if the thumping beat and chimes didn't already do it. Labyrinth Ear's Navy Light repeats on and on but it never gets old. The lyrics take on another life with each evolution of the song. If you're into stuff like Diamond Messages then definitely give this duo a try. Another mad as remix I've had a lot of love for - for a long, long time is Softwar's take on Undercover Martyn by Two Door Cinema Club. Honestly have no idea where they came from but they took this song to the edges of the solar sytem, skated it round pluto then rode it back to earth on a comet of phat synth. PHAT. Synth. I was lucky enough to see Cameron Mesirow aka Glasser at this year's Brisbane Laneway festival. Surprised I hadn't posted any Grimes yet - what's wrong with me? Grimes is Canada's Claire Boucher and she makes some beatiful world-scene sounding electro-piano-pop - that's the only way to describe it. Instant classic pop sing - Will.I.Am adding the great back and forth here that this song desperately needs. First time I heard the drop in this at the four minute mark I was sold. Again, it's not overly complicated, the lyrics are pretty simple too, but it's not overproduced - there's allowance there for gaps and silences which sets the mood for the whole song. Love it.
