When I first heard Jack Tatum's Wild Nothing I was instantly transported back to the first time I saw Garden State and Zach Braff put those headphones on and along came The Shins. You need to check this dream pop one-man-act out. "Coz our lips won't last forever and that's exactly why I'd rather live in dreams" [Audio clip: view full post to listen] Dates: 9 Jun 2010 9:00 A The Earl w/ Neon Indian Atlanta, GA 11 [...]

Enjoy this Ben Wagner (aka Hooray! ) take on Memoryhouse' Lately (Deuxième) . If you thought you couldn't bring across that feeling of being alone any more than the original try this on for size. For one, the opening half a minute is pure wind blowing before being brought back to Jon Brion's familiar Phone Call melody. The sub of this mix [no memory] illustrates the ominous layers Wagner has drizzled over the original; Denise' vocals are so far gone they sound like they're lost in a maze of reverby-synthesiser calmness. [...]

Yukon Blonde deliver this stellar piece, and if the story was just a but more elaborate it could be another indie harmony anthem in the likes of Fleet Foxes and to a lesser extent Library Voices . As it stands now Jeff, Brandon, and Graham leave you wanting more (which for me means repeat for my entire trip to work and back). The harmonies are wonderful though and the not one of the guys is drowning out the other with their vocals or their instruments. A very tight production which feels like one of those end-of-movie [...]

So I thought I'd give my fellow aussies Deep Sea Arcade some a-life lovin'. They've been getting a lot of air-play on JJJ for their single Lonely In Your Arms (Brilliant video!) which is just as poppy & catchy. This here is a solid effort though, I don't know if it's the church alter acoustics, the forefront tambourine or the unwavering drum rhythm ala (sp?) Ringo that makes these guys sound very Beatles in this recording - but I like it. And I'm trying out Soundcloud instead of FileDen with [...]

Hold onto your fucking mind and prepare to be BLOWN AWAY by this - NEW CIVIL CIVIC ! Ben & Aaron have done it again. Let me try and set the scene. You're called out to a death-match set in the plane between dreams and reality where you have to defeat the devil himself with a guitar made entirely from lazers (I'm understating). And all you're wearing is a flight cap and a cellophane g-string. That's the feeling you get when you press play on Fuck Youth. Their twin brother release Run Overdrive is a [...]

Welcome, welcome to the blog my Aussie-based brethren The Philadelphia Grand Jury . The boys from left to right are Calvin, Berkfinger, and MC Bad Genius - true story. And this is their most played track over the alternative airways of JJJ. It's a pop-punk\piano-rock\power-piec e which leaves that sweet 'aww shucks' feeling in your tummy upon listening. At its core its a get down and boogie opener to any live set and for this reason you should listen. Coz everyone could use a bit more boogie in their lives. "I could be standing [...]

We're all a bit incestuous. True story. Or at least we are according to the gorgeous four LA ladies who make up The Like . This off their Release Me album - the girls at the moment touring the states + Toronto being received well . This is catchy, as much as I can't stand all girl 'spoken' harmonies, this is still pulled off and although it might not be the next indie anthem - I could see it played out on whatever teen soapy is being spun these-days. The OC right? Get it here [...]

Seems like you can't get away from this song at the moment. It's all been said before, it's less edgy, more POP, what's the statement. If you're just after a fun track to spare the head mess than this is yours to dance to. Now forget the parody and hit repeat . Don't forget to post this on Twitter while watching Pulp Fiction on your iPhone. "You want me be - somebody who I'm really not" Related posts: [...]

Absolutely adore what Absofacto's done with this mix of Ra Ra Riot's Each Year . The bass, the tempo, the focus on Miles' vocals - it's beautiful. Make the time here . "Never mind what your daughter is taught in school - what she remembers is what she has learned from you" Related posts: Staygold - Backseat School Of Seven Bells - Babelonia Baby Brunet

Soapy-electro juice coats this take from Brooklyn-based Small Black. Like finishing late on Friday, stepping out and tripping over a couple making out on the curb - a little annoying, kinda cute and a little bit lonely. And if you got through reading that trite you deserve this . Related posts: We Have Band - Honeytrap (Co-Pilots' Flying High Edit) Firekites - Autumn Story Whitley - Head First Down

New album in the works from London rockers Flashguns . Here's a three part video-diary of them at work. Also my favourite off their Matching Hearts, Similar Parts EP. "Run on, run on black dog at my side. Keep him guessing in the moonlight a-comin' and a-goin' I'm a lunatics side " Related posts: Exlovers - Just A Silhouette Whitley - Head First Down [...]
New SVIIB from their upcoming sophomore effort Disconnect From Desire . They were brilliant live, they're all ridiculously good looking and it doesn't seem that long ago since Alpinisims was doing the laps of every indie-princess' iPod so they sure as hell can pump out the goods, what more could you ask for? Download here . Related posts: Kele Okereke - Tenderoni Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin - Modern Mystery We Have Band [...]

Swell live version of Omni's third single put to tape @ Virginian WNRN . Back to the roots stuff for MtB with the no-nonsense sexual innuendo, or is that just reality as Jake's not trying hard to mask it. Download here . "I got your nights. I got your days. I got you on - my time" Related posts: Kele Okereke - Tenderoni My Gold Mask & Roxy Music - [...]

I forgot to post this the other day, Memoryhouse sampling Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind's OST . Not too shabby, download here . "Lately I'm not sleeping. I'm not breathing without machines." Incredible things are happening. One, I saw on the 'news' this evening someone had invented a machine that extracts oil from water. That's good right? Then there's this New SSLYBY? Yes please. The guys teaming up with Death Cab For Cutie's guitarist and Carissa's Wierd producer Chris Walla. Going to be good. Here's my favourite recording from an old live set . And they're planning a world tour... saweet. Related posts: Eternal Summers - Able To [...]

Awesome new stuff from Wolf Parade , the very talented lads who make up the meat of Sunset Rubdown and Handsome Furs among many others. Released into the wild wild webs these two tracks will get you amped for their third full length Expo 86 (check the cover above) and it's been a long time between drinks - no Duran Duran pun going here. I don't know if I've got more complicated since first here Queen Mary but these two feel a lot more accessible than what's come before, [...]

So this is the first post I've made in quite a while. Almost two months... and it's nothing new or out of the box, but a good song nonetheless. This is Whitley - the melbourne based bard who wrote his first release to the deadlines of the Cats for and against and the up and down of the tide. Nothing fancy with this one, just try this aussie on for size if you haven't already (six months ago or more). Download the feel good anthem here . We are [...]

So they released the deluxe version of It's Blitz! and with it this delicate four minute moment performed by Karen O , Nick Zinner , and Brian Chase on what sounds like a jangly tambourine (not sure who's on the violin). I always liked this song, really enjoyed hearing it performed live with my baby but this acoustic rendition makes it step off the pages like it never did before. Download this sweet piece here . Fall sweetly, hang heavy - you suddenly complete me, [...]

Sometimes hype can be a very good thing. Take Cults for example, noone had made much noise about them until twenty days ago when GvsB posted about these unknowners making some beautiful music. Now they're all over the blogosphere, and with goood reason. I really dig this track, it's so cheery how couldn't you? And they're giving it away for free - a sign of a true artists. Download your lost summer-camp love here . I really wanna go out - I really want to go outside and start [...]
