Couldn't have pulled a better pose Ernest Gonzales , that's exactly how I'd imagine you'd look playing this song. Melodramatic? For sure. But that's exactly what he's aiming for. I can't get enough of it though. He says he's experimental, laying beatboxing on synths that sound like the love child of The Radio Dept. and a mythical Cloud Cult B-Side. Sounding like how you feel when you can't get to sleep, when there's something on your mind. Ernest's label is running a remix/mashup contest over at his new release' website Been Meaning To Tell [...]

The party anthem for the week goes to old favourite Snoop Dogg with Kid Cudi and That Tree mixed superbly by Clockwork . All the best of the original and all that low grimey sound I just can't get enough of. This was made for the clubs. It's great to see that longevity in mainstream music doesn't mean a tired charade of what once was - Snoop, keeping it relevant and going with Diplo to produce was just one of his many master touches. Love what Cudi brings too [...]

This takes a while to get going but it's beautiful when it does. If you're into The Postal Service or even a little Owl City then try Freelance Whales on for size. More organic than the synthy bee-bop of the later and that's welcome for sure. It's a modest round of harmonies that lead into the crescendo and by that time you've forgotten how soft it had all started. They're from Queens in NYC, they enjoy playing their music and I doubt they'd mind me sharing that with you. So download the pleaseantries and have a [...]

Take one legendary mashup artist, add the dirtiest bassline from the seventies and sprinkle with the hype that is My Gold Mask and you get this. I just love the fact that Hood left the sax in untouched, I think that made the original. Would have been great to have a little Brian Ferry cameo but then I'm asking too much. So what about these two, Gretta Rochelle & Jack Armondo (cool names no?) they're from Chicago and released their latest EP earlier this year which you can go and grab from their bandcamp [...]

Check it out, my little cousins from up in Jabiru, NT and they're doing hip hop. Crazy. They call themselves the Kakadu Crew and this is pretty catchy, and cute. Download the song here if you like it and check out the video for some cool moves. Feelin' hungry, down to the river to the barramundi. Catch a turtle, they call 'em almungi. Grab a cobra, hit him in the head - cook him, eat 'im but make sure he's dead Related [...]

Reblogged with love from TILT - I don't know if when I see two artists that I love collaborating that I instantly convince myself that the outcome's going to be great or that it just usually is. Either way, I'd say this warrants any preemptive critique that could have been on the way. Marina & the Diamonds meets Passion Pit with one of my favourite tracks off of The Family Jewels and it does not disappoint. Forget the long post and just have a listen here . [...]
I've Moved! Over here, to a-life.me - how bout that :) : I decided I needed to have a bit more flexibility with my content delivery. I love you tumblr, you were good to me xo

Ramona Falls - I Say Fever Reblogged from Obscure Sound with love: '"I Say Fever" boasts a messy arsenal of interweaving guitars that seem to enjoyably crash and burn over the delicate twinkles of keys… not quite minimalistic, but its evolution from a bluesy guitar progression into an epic with roaring guitars and squealing brass is boisterously impressive. Rarely has the birthing of stylistic fusions been so enjoyable' And how. Brent Knopf's solo side project Ramona Falls apart from Menomena [...]

Library Voices - Drinking Games As pop as you'll find here @ a-life. Library Voices - not sure if there's eight or ten members of this band but they've formed some perfectly uncluttered melody in this, their single off their upcoming (April) release Denim on Denim , look out for it. They hail from the Canadialand capital of Saskatchewan, Regina which boasts it's main pulling feature as an artificial lake and bridge over said artificial lake. Cool stuff that. Download their beautiful pop tune here . [...]
We Have Band - Honeytrap (Co-Pilots' Flying High Edit) Thanks in large to RCRDLBL. We Have Band - are Darren, Dede and Thomas from London and they play into that cushy electro pop-rock pocket you love to snuggle into on the bus with your shades down and your ipod max'd. This would be part of your stock standard party mix but with Russell Lissack (Bloc Party) and Jamie Ellis from (now defunct) Battle teaming up to Co-Pilot it into awesome-town, re-evaluation was in order. [...]
Pearl And The Beard - Oh, Death! So this floated into my inbox the other day and (unfortunately) I only just got around to listening, worth the wait I tell you. Pearl and the Beard - are Jocelyn, Emily and Jeremy from NYC and they bring good times to the table in the form of great vocal harmony, sparse yet strong guitar-work and a cello as unforgiving as the tale they tell. This masterpiece off God Bless Your Weary Soul, [...]
Local Natives - Wide Eyes Reblogged with love from swansandwolves : 'my friends, the local natives , with their delicate rendition of "wide eyes."' The LA lads have caused quite the stir in the UK with their release Gorilla Manor and it's set to make all that noise and more state side now they've brought it home. These guys have been compared to Arcade Fire, Fleet Foxes and Vampire Weekend. If that's what you're after you won't find it with these guys (at least not mirrored). It's not the pop you're [...]

Broken Social Scene - World Sick I wouldn't be much of a pop music blogger if I didn't give some time to this. Broken Social Scene - the group that has for the past decade or so set the benchmark for every indie collaboration effort heard today. Having been five years since their last release under (the original moniker of) BSS one might ask, 'Do they still have it?' Well hypothetical question asker, yes - yes they do. In the same soundscape as their [...]
NightWaves - Fascination (Cavaliers Of Fun Remix) Sexy fun. Fun sexy. That's how I'd describe NightWaves - Kyle & Josh from LA. You kind of feel like you're back in the '80s. Only you've got mascara on your pubes and aeroplane jelly in your pockets. Okay, maybe it's nothing like that. But the sultry lyrics from opening till then bed thumping bassline; this track hits it and doesn't stop. COF doesn't hurt one bit either, bringing the best of the [...]

The John Steel Singers - Rainbow Kraut This one is dedicated to the mostest fun (read: funest) chicks in Brissi: VanessAh & Monicajajaja. The John Steel Singers - hail from Brisfuknvegaz and rock out live, true story; that's official. This is their most played track on last.fm. So it must be at least alright huh? Wrong ! It's awesome and like Rocket Science meets Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. Just like that. [...]

Staygold - Backseat Reblogged from Sheena Beaston with love: ' STAYGOLD , no stranger to my writings, joined up with Spank Rock , Robyn and Damien Adore to perform the boys' original track, Backseat . The added vocals from our beloved songstress really heighten the passion in this funky jam!' I'll only be posting once tonight; listen in and you'll know why. There's a real sense of nu-romance in the lyrics. If you want more, watch them do it [...]

Civil Civic - Less Unless This has been floating around the net for almost a year now but dayum it's still fresh. Civil Civic - are Ben and Aaron from London and Barcelona, respectively or not, not sure which. This mix is insane on so many levels; the fact that they collaborated on it across the ocean, that they relased it on cassette, or that it makes me cream my pants at 1:11 - every time. On listening I'm reminded of The Bloody Beetroots, only I can actually [...]

The Shimmer - Lover Void Reblogged with love from Pinglewood : 'Here they glimmer darkly on the b-side to their debut single , out soon on the aptly named Hit Club .' I'd say more punchy, a lot of kick and the promise of the bite to come. The Shimmer - delivering the soundtrack to every (over)alcohol-fueled night on the town I can (vaguely) remember. A cross between Love On A Real Train and The Cure's Lovesong (and [...]

The Car Is On Fire - Baby Baby One of the highlights of doing this is the odd msgs I receive. The Car Is On Fire - are Kuba, Jacek & Krzysztof from Warsaw, Poland who play an off-kilt power pop style of music with an experimental twang. Here's one from their latest album Ombarrops! released last May. One of their more downtempo & introverted pieces. Download here . "I met the devil and he [...]

Elspeth - Lullaby Thanks to DS for the tip off on this one. Elspeth - the five piece unsigned Irish lads have crafted a very emotive piece here. I'd like to hear a bit more from the bass, but hey can't have everything. They're opening for Field Music @ Belfast in March , and if this string-tugging effort is anything to go by you'd want to pay the 8 pounds times two to bring your special lady with you. Download here . [...]
