New York's ohnomoon have posted a gorgeous cover of David Bowie's classic "Ashes To Ashes". This is the last song the band recorded with bassist Raymond Blanco before his untimely passing two weeks ago. I was fortunate to meet Ray earlier this year through my friends in the band and he was someone you instantly felt a friendship with. He was clever, kind and a talented musician. Look out for the band at The Deli's CMJ Showcase on 10/18 at The Delancey and 11/19 at The Delancey again [...]

Two professors, one of geography and one of political science, both specializing in women’s studies, have compiled a ton of data about the American experience, past and present, in The Real State of America Atlas . With colorful easy-to-understand maps, charts, graphs and essays, readers are given a realistic picture of the United States. Among the surprising things I learned were that the majority of people in the U.S. are Catholic and those most likely to become homeless are “persons in families”. [...]

Coliseum continues their path of creating more melodic music that still pummels your ears and this song is definitely on par then all the best tracks on House with a Curse . For the new EP Parasites , J. Robbins once again produced and Rick Froberg (Obits, Hot Snakes) provided the album art. Mp3: Coliseum - Waiting (Too Late)

A video has been released for the title track of Ryan Adams' forthcoming album . Playing an acoustic version of the song, Adams sits and strums a red, white and blue guitar. He also appears to be wearing Mardi Gras beads. It sounds like he's in top form, and we're very much looking forward to hearing the rest of the album.

Missed this video when it first went up, but it rules. Wild Flag runs amuck and causes some mischief on their lunch break. We look forward to catching their amazing live show again in October at Maxwell's.

Yuck has been releasing lots of b-sides throughout the year and now they will all get a proper release with one of those deluxe reissue deals which I could criticize them for, but Yuck is possibly my favorite release of the year so I am 100% for it. Like everything else they have put out this year, this song rules.
Please view with IFRAME compatible browser Patton Oswalt is one of our all time favorite comedians. He kills it every time and his new special is no exception. If you missed the premiere on Showtime because you don't have the premium channels, you can check out his new jokes on record via Comedy Central. Above is a preview of the album with a bit dubbed "The Burroughs of Carbs" detailing some exploits of Weight Watchers.

Kurt Vile already released a fantastic full length LP this year and now he is set to release a new EP featuring 5 new tracks and a cover of Springsteen's "Downbound Train". These cuts were recorded during the Smoke Ring For My Halo sessions. Check out "The Creature" below and order this from Matador . Mp3: Kurt Vile - The Creature

Surfer Blood performed "Miranda" when opening up for Guided By Voices at McCarren Park this summer and the recording is just as good as I remember it. This one is fast and sounds a bit Smoking Popes-esque. Look out for the new record on October 23rd. Download here via Mediafire .

These are some really sharp looking headphones that based on the specs and the price the audio should match the looks. They retail for just slightly under a grand ($995), but hey there is a free travel case. Purchase here . ( via Uncrate )

The cover art for the collaborative project between Lou Reed and Metallica. Not entirely sure of what to expect from this record, but definitely looking forward to it as long as it's nothing like when Jimmy Page and Puff Dadddy collaborated .

Here's a very haunting song from Bradford Cox's Atlas Sound which also shows some roots in 702s rock. This track is from his new proper LP (as he has released a ton of music this year for free) Parallax . Look out for it on November 8th. Mp3: Atlas Sound - Terra Incognita

“Lucky Now” is the first track to hit the internet off of Ryan Adams’ forthcoming album Ashes & Fire . Adams has experimented with different sounds over the years, including rock n roll and metal, but now he’s back to his alt-country roots, which is when he’s at his best. He’s teamed up with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ keyboardist Benmont Tench to create this beautifully paired down track. Ryan Adams - Lucky Now by theaudioperv

Altamont has put out a series of shirts featuring graphics and imagery of GWAR each on a couple different color ways. We suggesting wearing the white shirts to their shows though so you can further customize with fake guts and blood from the front row splash zone area. Plus it's a GWAR shirt so no need to wash it, ever. Check out the shirts after the jump and shop the collection here .
Someone has taken the time to create a Zelda / SNES style role playing game about Neutral Milk Hotel titled "In A Time Machine Over The Sea". Check out the trailer and download link below. This helps to build the anticipation for the Jeff Magnum shows that seem to finally be coming up despite the fact tickets all sold out way earlier this year. Click here to view the embedded video. Download the game via megaupload [...]

Ben Loory has written a book of short stories – well, no a book of fables maybe. Succinct, each tiny tale is no more than a few pages. Although fantastical they are rooted in honesty, and Loory has done a good job of capturing the confusion of human emotion when surprises disrupt ones carefully-crafted routine. A woman looses her mind when a book with no words becomes a bestseller. An Octopus living on land hosts his sea-bred nephews as visitors. A man tries his darnedest to trick and kill the grim reaper. A web of disillusion is woven so tightly [...]
Click here to view the embedded video. Honestly, this new Fucked Up video for "The Other Shoe" video is pretty anti-climatic and basically just has a bunch of people walking around with seemingly no purpose. I love this song though, so if you haven't heard it listen to it with some visuals.
