The Antlers got a lot of praise from the underground and the blogosphere. I apparently wasn't hip enough to have paid attention, but one of my D.C. homies (what up Warren) said this was his favorite album of the year. I think that's going overboard. Is it sad-boy music? Pretty much, it's about this dude's hospice care--apparently he was in real bad shape. But on "Bear," my favorite track, he elevates the shimm to an interesting and sort of melodically beautiful way. Wait for that chorus, it's a doozy.

Transference is growing on me. And apart from Vampire Weekend, I can't find much new music to listen to these days, so i just keep listening to it over and over again--i cannot get the line "I'm writing this to you in reverse, somebody better call a hearse" and i find myself randomly saying "now the lightbulb's gone off." Weird? Uh, probably. I'm going to avoid any deep thoughts or insightful commentary and let "Trouble comes running" do all the talking.

New Spoon drops next week. I haven't made up my mind about Transference-- there are some killer tunes like "I saw the light"--dig that piano at the end. But "Goodnight Laura" might be the worst Spoon song I've ever heard. All in all, it doesn't disappoint. Given the high expectations, that's saying something.

Black Taxi has been making a name for themselves around NYC for several years, but are just now on the cusp of breaking out and getting a much bigger following, outside of the Big Apple- and for good reason.
