It's been a while, so I thought I shouldn't put this off any further. Yes, it's List Addicts Fridays once again, and today's theme is 'covers'. In the history of List Addicts, I have never made a covers post before, mainly because a lot of other blogs do. They even have weekly posts about it. Heck, some even dedicate a whole blog to covers. But hey, since mine's not a regular thing, this week's list is special - my own take of favorite covers from indie bands that have perked up my ears at one point or another. [...]

You'll need heart and I'll need courage Precious Time by The Maccabees
Our video of the week comes from Grovesnor , who's also known as Hot Chip drummer Rob Smoughton. As Grovesnor , he describes himself as a troubadour who looks like a teacher but sings like Usher. Dan , plays out like a nice rom-com from a few years back that you missed out seeing, with music that sort of sounds like it came for the era of 80's adult contemporary smooth rock (whatever the heck that is). Somehow, the music sort of reminds me of Steely Dan - just because [...]

Pretty soon it will happen, the sun will go murder the snow. Funeral Face by Suburban Kids with Biblical Names

It's a little bit too early for a Lyric of the Day recap and too soon for an album art post - but it is way overdue for a song list. I haven't had time to sort through my emails in the last few weeks, so Fresh from the Post might have to wait a while. What I had time for though, was to browse through the Free Album download section on Amazon . I am admittedly, a sucker for free stuff. Of course, I know you guys are too because, what other reason would you be lurking [...]

I really need to take a holiday. I need to get away. Holiday by wonder for all

And suddenly, the world is full of sunshine. And Suddenly by The School

You breathe in when I breathe out. Clean Up Your Eyes by The Dykeenies

Is it that time of the month already? No, but it is time for your Album Art + Lyric of the Day recap. Trust me, this'll be nice. As always, you can click through to find out more about the artists we've featured on Lyric of the Day. There's also the lyric roundup after the jump ;) "You've got a job you hate. You get home too late." Mingus - I'm from Barcelona [...]

Don't check me out. Young Adult Friction by The Pains of Being Pure At Heart

Don't check me out. Young Adult Friction by The Pains of Being Pure At Heart

Will someone please call a surgeon? Who can crack my ribs and repair this broken heart. Nothing Better by The Postal Service
Just to let you guys know that I am still here, here's a neato video that went viral a few months back. A video for all you art geeks out there - if you don't know if you're an art geek or not, if you can name more than half of these parodied famous artworks along with the names of who painted them, there's definitley no doubt about where your geeky side leans to. Otherwise, enjoy our Video of the Week: 70 Million by Hold Your Horses!

Fresh from the Post comes back with another New York band. Hailing from Brooklyn, Scary Mansion 's sound is a lovely blend of pop and rock, oftentimes accented by the sound of a thunderstick - a three-stringed acoustic instrument similar to a banjo or a dulcimer that lead vocalist Leah Hayes plays. Apart from singing and songwriting, vocalist Leah Hayes also illustrates and writes books. She's got two books under her belt, with her artwork featured in The New Yorker, The New York Times and McSweeney's Quarterly. [...]

I don't know why it took me seven years to fully appreciate the allure of Canadian music. Probably because there's this underlying country music and folk influence in a lot of Canadian music that I can't seem to wrap my ears around. If you asked me a few years ago, if there were two kinds of music that I really can't stand, I would say that it's gangster rap and country music. Although, in the last few years I have slowly warmed up to folk - since it has this nice, simple, earthy kind of quality to it that I [...]
I love videos that combine childhood imagination with young love. There's just something so beautifully vulnerable about it. Also, it helps that Letting Up Despite Great Faults creates such magical songs that make you fall instantly in love. Letting Up Despite Great Faults ' Our Younger Noise is our Video of the Week.

I love these guys. Not only because they've got an Indie Music Database pick of the week section in their programme - it's also because they're hilarious to listen to. Adam Hiniker and Vance Barber are two guys from Queens, New York who've got this stellar podcast called Ear Candy New York. It's an unscripted comedy talk show, that showcases a couple of new tunes every week interspersed with witty guy banter. Topics range from the seedy machinations of prostitution, the psychological implications of stalking, the politics of marijuana legalization and some heart to heart relationship advice. [...]

And why not? This might be the best idea yet :) I kind of missed the recap - especially since I've been showcasing really nice songs as of late. I'm not posting the songs here though, too much effort - so it'd be best to visit the site everyday if you want a link for a download (if you don't know it yet, yer lyric of the day songs up top on the right side there can be downloaded by a simple right-click and Save As). If you missed hearing the song though, our dear old Facebook page [...]

Back in the mid 80's there used to be show called Video Hit Parade in one of those Marcos owned TV stations. It was during those times that I first saw Aha's Take On Me, Rick Astley's weird yet strangely appealing hair dance and the heyday of the New Wave movement. I was hooked! After that it was MTV, this was during the early 90's and cable television was in its infancy. We all wanted to become Danny McGill and have Nonie as our girlfriend/sex slave. We loathed Mike Casem and his freakish younger sister. Alternative music ruled MTV and [...]
Just because I'm a big fan of The Office and I love Slow Club - here's Gareth , looking far-removed from his dorky self in Slow Club 's Giving Up On Love video.
