Knocked up another podcast for all of yous, recorded midday last Sunday while suffering from a heavy weekend but we cheered ourselves up with a mix and some exclusives from Fake Blood, Porxy and Boy 8 Bit. Tom took the reins and presented this one, we had our friend Oli (Cahoot) and Chris (my DJ partner in Mugshots) in with us too to talk about their favourite tunes of the moment and provide the usual techno banter. We each took three songs each and had a mix at the end, in which we talk about during the first half. And [...]

Been given the all clear this morning for an all new Fake Blood remix, which makes me happy for more than one reason obviously, but the main reason being that Fake Blood productions are back (he's officially on the remix package for the new Calvin Harris single too). Miike Snow have been causing as much stir as Fake Blood originally did last year, but in a different genre pool. How would I describe the genre? Electro indie pop? Okay, that's more of a description rather than a genre. There was mystery surrounding this [...]

The thing I like about Jak-Z is his ability to keep producing jackin' fidget house songs of high calibur, while having one of the most unique and creative styles in a genre that recently has become rather mundane and 'samey'. Which is shame really, it's just nothing is exciting anyone in the world of fidget at the moment - I predict this will all change upon the release Jack Beats new EP, which I just cannot wait for. Jak-Z has a new EP out on beatport [...]
Well, this is incredibly late isn't it? All here at the Louis Louis blog apologise; we realise how much you all look forward to this podcast every week. Well, better late then never, eh? This week's podcast features me, sat in my bedroom, talking into a crap microphone with plenty of background hum, and playing some wonderful techno records. Then, at the end, there's a 40 minute live mix; 20 minutes from Louis, 20 minutes from me. Louis' half is a really nicely mixed selection of fidget, going into some more techy stuff at [...]

By the way, you should all totally check out the new website for the night I help run, http://www.wearekrooked.co.uk. We'll have guest mixes from us residents and guests too, along with news on upcoming nights, photos from the nights and other info on other ventures the Krooked family support. Looks sick don't it? Everyone in the Krooked family and... Sheffield, is extremely happy about this Friday as the biggest night in Sheffield, Club Pony (i.e the night Tom residents at, the other writer you [...]

New music & local talent from the Yorkshire area, Barnsley to be precise - land of the strong accent and apparently the knack for creating trendy tunes combining all sorts of genres. Luckism , aka Jamie Shaw got in contact with some original productions from his first EP that shows a bucket load of potential and promise. The EP contains a smorgasbord of genres, vocals from a classic dubstep song, beats from a tech-house anthem and the drops from a fidget smasher. The production is tight and the loops are catchy as hell, 'Greasy' sounds like Mowgli collab'ed with [...]

It's all been more than a little quiet from me over the last couple of weeks, and for that I apologise a thousand times. I've been buried with work, and then finished university and have been buried in the job hunt, and then yesterday was my birthday so I was buried in felicitations and joyous tidings. However, I'm back now, stronger than ever, and with muchas musicas for everyone. Neppumuk Z - Bodybuilder Power Workout Music (International Version) [Alexander Mauder] {zshare} [...]

Now you know I've been listening to Toddla's album on repeat while the sun's been out, well, since the sun went I moved to 'home' home in Cambridge for a bit too, so the week hasn't been great. The only thing that's been cheering me up and getting me bouncing again is this mixtape that the Shake Aletti boys sent over (the boys also feature on the Toddla album so you can see my thought progression...), infused with Sheffield funk and electronic bop, it was the perfect remedy to turn my frown upside down and keep summer beaming. [...]

I completely dropped the ball on this one, I've been showing these guys a lot of love on the blog over the past couple months and I have much reason to. Couple weeks ago I had the exclusive of this and completely, COMPLETELY forgot to post it, but obviously this doesn't matter that much - what does matter is that I share this latest Run Hide Survive production with as many people as possible and prove to you all (once again) that Mike & Luke are killing it right now. This latest remix is brilliant, Sheffield [...]

Now this Friday see's the end of everyone's exams, luckily the Barry boys have catered for such an occasion and it couldn't be more perfect timing what with the sun beaming, we all know what goes well with sun... Bass. Yes. Bigger Than Barry is slowly taking over England (and soon Ibiza) having set up residencies in a number of cities since they became huge in Birmingham, they came to Sheffield a few months ago and we've never seen anything like it. They've played host to some extraordinarily good parties with amazing guests, such as Rico Tubbs, Drop [...]

I cannot recommend an album enough this year, for something new and totally original that combines all your favourite genres, from garage to drum n' bass, electro to r'n'b all wrapped up in a massive dancehall vibe- Toddla T 's new album Skanky Skanky, that was released last Monday is stupidly good. And of course, it's from Sheffield too. I post about this because it's been mad sunny in Sheffield the past few days and the album has been the perfect soundtrack constantly on repeat and as seen above, I've been wearing my Toddla Tee at [...]

The latest EP from one of the best labels so far this year (Nightshifters, i.e. home to AC Slater, Hostage, DJ Donna Summer...) gave us Rob Threezy . And Rob Threezy has provided us with a killer selection of songs. The reason I post this so excitedly is because when I DJ with Chris (in Mugshots), he sometimes plays tunes that I have no idea what they are and I beg him to tell me what they are - the past few times this has been responded with the answer 'Rob Threezy'. Mr Threezy delights us with bass injected [...]
I like writing about something different once in a while and I can't get much different to what I'm about to post, but of course with everything me and Tom post, we post because we love the songs/artists. This band, this song, I fell in love with straight away. I don't know if you've ever heard of a band called Look See Proof ? Well they're an indie/pop outfit from Herts, they got pretty successful, released an EP and album and even went on a tour round Europe while gaining a pretty respectable fanbase. It's a shame [...]

It's been a gloriously sunny weekend, and I haven't been able to leave the house. Wonderful times. I have been watching a lot of The Wire though, so that's a good thing. A distracting, unproductive thing, but good nonetheless. I've also been listening to a lot of Blind Boys of Alabama; it's made me utterly miserable, but in a cathartic way, which I suppose is sort of good. Today I did my weekly Beatport trawl, and came up with some real diamonds. Since finally getting round [...]

Today I have been inside, yet again, writing all about the effects of universalised ethnic identity upon the formation of individualised personal identity. It's been electric. In order to power me through, I've been listening to Paul's Boutique, which has made everything at least a little easier. However, every hour or so I get bored, so I'll go downstairs and make a cup of coffee. I then turn my speakers up very loud, and put on this song: Click Box - Voxer (M_nus ) [...]

To date I've largely posted stuff leaning on the housier, more organic side of things. 2am records, things to get people grooving and smiling and generally feeling pretty cheerful. However, it's pissed it down for two weeks now and I've been trapped in a world of essay writing pain so my normally delightful demeanour has been replaced by something a little darker. Drumcell and Audio Injection - Cell Injection (Tony Rohr remix) [Droid ] {ysi} [...]

The most refreshing remix I've heard in a long time, organic, clean, sharp and tight sounds come from the superb Steel City homeslices Run Hide Survive on their latest work for Brooklyn based punk band Boy Crisis . The vocal work here is more than excellent, RHS use them to full potential, utilising the seductive edge laced throughout making them perfect for bringing in a crazy drop that sounds like a... bouncing ball, really. Mike said they were experimenting with the new sounds on this one and it seems they hit the jackpot here, with huge adoration [...]

Now for something a bit different, these guys got in contact me because they're from Sheffield, simply put. I don't think I've ever featured an actual band before, but Decay Ends A Decade just struck a chord with me, or should I say synth line. Imagine Chromeo and The Midnight Juggernauts ran into each other, really fast, in the 80's. Decay Ends A Decade's upcoming single on Brut Mod Records, would be the clap-tastic result. I was trying to pick out my favourite parts of the song, the bits that get me hooked, but I think it's the combination of [...]
I thought we should probably do this now there's two of us writing, especially as we both have a big difference in our music tastes. I would have loved to put my selection in a mix, but unfortunately I'm meant to be revising all day, dam you Tom! Saying that, I've posted twice today. Yeah, revision's going well, thanks for asking. My selection, for the first time ever, includes techno. Shock horror! And as I'm clearly fairly new to this genre I don't know whether they're new or old songs as I'm still finding my feet with learning of labels [...]

Louis asked me to pick a top 10 for the month, which I did. I then thought it might be nice to stick them in a mix, so I did. It evolved a little bit, so here's an hour-long mix of some of my favourite new releases. This was knocked out live this afternoon (so no retakes) which means some of the beat-matching is a little shaky in parts, and this is the first time I've played a lot of these records so it's more than a little scrappy. Still, the tracks are pretty good, so I hope you enjoy, [...]
