We think Mayer Hawthorne got the title of his brand new single all wrong, because this is really our favorite new song. Complimented by the buttery vocals of British songstress Jessie Ware , Hawthorne makes yet another case for the title of "King of Soul" in 2013. The funky tune revolves around a female who considers her iTunes library to be a sanctuary from all the pressures of the world (which may sound familiar to many of you out there). It's impossible to listen to this number without singing along, and you'll find [...]
Thank goodness we didn’t have to wait long for the latest offering from Manchester minimal-poppers The 1975 and their forthcoming EP IV which is set to release May 20 stateside, with freshly minted single “Falling For You”. Last week, we gave you Ninjas the drop on the dreary cut “Haunt // Bed”, and today follows suit with that slow-burning aesthetic spearheaded by Matthew Healy’s longing coo, steeped in a blanket of shoegazey reverb. At the heart of “Falling For You”, beats a faint, driving synth just audible enough to get your hips [...]
Chicago mashup royalty The Hood Internet are making their way to Denver, and we couldn't me more excited. ABX and STV SLV are known for the genre jumping mashups that grace the Popular Charts of Hype Machine on the regular. Their ability to fuse songs and styles together is impeccable, and from what we hear, we can expect the same at a live show. While we're stoked to hear all of our favorite mashups that we've come to love over the past few years, we're also looking forward to hearing some original productions from their latest release, FEAT. [...]
We are mixing things up a bit this month, moving the top 5 songs of our resident artist up to this week. Why you may ask? It is because Reza is coming to Colorado this weekend to play at a huge Music Ninja party and we are doing a face-to-face interview. So you will have to wait another week for that bad boy. But while you are waiting, grab these five favorite jams of Reza's and turn them out loud because they are not songs to be messed with, enjoy. Whoops - 12th Planet [...]
Aussie rockers Loon Lake have seemingly captured a piece of Americana, and did it while living over 7000 miles away. Yes, we know that Australia and America have their cultural similarities, but something about this track just feels like home. We could easily envision this song played in bars all across the states, and people absolutely loving it. Listen to it. It screams Friday night, cold beer, and frivolous encounters with the opposite sex. We honestly thought about strapping on some cowboy boots, and heading down to our local dive. We soon realized that we didn't own cowboy boots. None [...]
Oh we love a good Krewella remix here at TMN. Enter Ennui! or as his Chicago friends may like to call him, Nick Keenan. Here’s the thing, he is new, very new. And his name, Ennui, if you look it up means having too much time on his hands or little will to do something productive, this couldn't be farther from Keenan's truth. His Facebook Page and Soundcloud were only started last year so he’s fresh new in the Electronic Music scene but thank goodness he decided to grace us all with his musical presence. This remix does [...]
Ahh. There's nothing this ninja loves more in the EDM realm than some hard pounding electro house. Thankfully US based Producer/DJ duo Case & Point has provided us with just that. First up in their newly released Upgrade EP is the title track. "Upgrade" features razor sharp electro synths and a leg exhausting beat. This is one of those tracks that would instantly light up a dancefloor, and it probably will many times over in the coming months. "Razor" has a much calmer build up, a funky bassline, and a beautiful progressive melody that plays nicely [...]
Sometimes, a good song is in need of a comeback. If you were not a fan of the White Stripes then read no further but if you were/still are, Colorado natives Dan and Alex Yukhananov decided it was time to bring back “Seven Nation Army”, a WS classic. This duo goes by the name of Paris Burns and have been producing in the electronic music world for a little around two years. The boys take on this WS song with all the drumstep they possibly could find; strong drums, steady electronic beats and a sometimes eerie use of [...]
![Disclosure – You & Me ft. Eliza Doolittle (Baauer Remix) [Trap]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4950413_lg.jpg)
When Baauer dropped this at Coachella, it's safe to say the 2 minute RIP went completely viral. So it's nice that this massive remix was finally uploaded. Anytime you see to artist like Disclosure and Baauer in the same title, you can expect big things. And with the flawless vocals work done to Eliza Doolittle 's voice, this track is sure to find it's way into plenty of artists sets. Especially the splicing and edits around 3:15, none the less this remix has it all. Cheers.
First of we got a remix of Knife Party 's track "Power Glove" and Drankenstein aka Bird Peterson absolutely killed it. Glad to see Carnage is back to running the trap, this time he teams up with Heroes X Villains for an anthem worthy remix of "Mammoth" by Dimitri Vegas , Like Mike , and Moguai . Next is a preview we featured a few days ago of Major Lazer 's take on Dada Life' s track "Boing Clash Boom". Gent & Jawns have been [...]
Moguai's label is back, and rumor has it that it will be joining forces with a large label as part of a partnership. To build a little bit of intrigue, official internal sources in Moguai's camp have hit us up with...well...an unnamed track, and a release date. That's all we have for you. We're not sure who made the track or what the track will be called. All we know is that it's the first release on the newly revived PUNX, and it's due out June 24th. Our best suggestion to keep tabs on this is to [...]
![[MP3 Playlist] Indie Dojo (May 2013 Round #2)](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4949212_lg.jpg)
Consistency. Something this planet's unpredictable climate and the Indie Dojo do not have common. 'Cause no matter if you are currently being slapped in face with an unbearable heatwave or you have ice tsunamis (yes, this is a real thing) knocking down your doors, you've always got that weekly playlist to bundle up to or in LA's case...get naked with. Hey...don't judge. It's f'n hot.
There's no doubt in anyone's mind that Miami during WMC is absolute insanity. Artists, Label Reps, Publicists, Bloggers and fans are rushing around the streets of South Beach, bouncing from party to party, trying to get the most out of their experience. This year was our first year working it, and we definitely had far too much stacked on our plate. With that being said, we unfortunately couldn't sit down with Seven Lions in person. As many of you know from posts in the past, Seven Lions is a TMN favorite. His melodic and often aggressive style [...]
Los Angeles based R&B/pop-songstress BANKS got us out of bed on the right foot early this Monday morning by gracing our ears with her newest single “Warm Water”, produced by one of the most musically educated and progressive minds within the electronic community, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs . “Warm Water” is a dreamy, romantic slice of pop music, placing BANKS’ lusty, soulful refrain front and center over a minimally focused R&B track. With the recent success of hyper-expressive vocalists like Frank Ocean, Rhye and Jessie Ware being displayed on [...]
21 year old electronic Wunderkind, Flume , has seen his proverbial stock soar to unimaginable heights since an assemblage of his singles went viral in late 2011, the ultra success of his debut album hitting number-one in his native Australia (recently ousting One Direction as a matter of fact) and specifically, the gargantuan success of “Sleepless” featuring vocals from Jezzabel Doran. Since charting one of our favorite purely electronic albums of 2012 with a self-titled LP, “Sleepless” has proven to be a track with which an absurd amount of producers have gotten their hands on [...]
We finally have it in our hands folks (well, kind of). Daft Punk has kindly decided to allow us to stream the entire album for free through iTunes in preparation for its release next week. No longer do we have speculate on what's authentic and what's not. No longer do we have to wince at low quality rips of supposed leaks from false foreign radio stations. And no longer do we have to plant ourselves on YouTube as we continually loop through 15 second clips over and over again. We can now safely listen to the [...]
Our boys TastyTreat and Nasty Nate just graced us with this awesome new EP Cultivation. Cultivation features Moombah tempo heavy electro and ground rattling heavy electro-trap sure to send a dancefloor into a frenzy. Watch out for TastyTreat as they will be releasing some fire soon on Teenage Riot Records , the imprint started by JFK of MSTRKRFT and featuring artists like Bird Peterson, Mr. Vega and Team Bayside High
If you're like us, you've probably looped Disclosure 's "Latch" track to the point of record-scratching — it's a stellar jam and one that's pleasantly led to the UK duo's generous amount of press coverage as of late. But all the credit can't go to the production; Sam Smith 's impassioned vocals are impressive in their own right and with this acoustic version, flushed with beautiful string and piano work, we get to see just how impactive his voice really is. He's emotional, but so commanding at the same time. Treat yourself below, and be sure to revisit [...]
Recently, there has been a lot of talk about the 'state' of certain music 'scenes', whether it's growing trends or mainstreamization of certain sounds. As always, the message from this dojo is to chill and stay worry-free. While the saturation of particular genres and sounds may cause some to despair, there will always be artists pushing creative boundaries and providing innovation in their music. These are the people we look to highlight and celebrate in this playlist, who enable us to experience chill feelings with fresh sounds and good vibes. A producer who does just that is London's [...]
While last week's playlist managed to keep things on the lighter side in preparation for the summer, this week's load is a bit heavier. Featuring a wide array of crafty wordsmiths and lyrical masterminds, the eight edition of the Hip-Hop Dojo is bound to get your head nodding and your mind racing. While I won't be elaborating on every track this week, please note that we do have quite a bit of diversity in this group. Most of the names on this list should be familiar to you already, but there are a few newcomers this time around too. [...]
