Australian electro-pop pioneers Cut Copy are releasing the follow up to their acclaimed In Ghost Colours this February. Zonoscope , along with its very cool artwork, drops in the U.S. on 2/8, and you can get a free download of bouncy first single "Where I'm Going" below. Today the band made Thee Loving Hand's (Tim Goldsworthy, producer of In Ghost Colours ) extended, hypnotic remix of album cut "Take Me Over" available as another free [...]

Here's a list of my favorite songs of 2010, with no artist appearing more than once. Otherwise Titus Andronicus would have 3 songs in the top ten. Hope you like the same music as me in the exact same order: 1. Titus [...]

2009 and '10 have seen a handful of goodies from Italian multi-instrumentalist Alessio Natalizia, better known as Banjo or Freakout , with a self-titled debut album coming in February on Memphis Industries . Not to be outdone by all the other emerging talents who are in the holiday spirit though, today came word of a free (for the first 1000 downloads) full length holiday album called XA2010 . You can get it over at the [...]
![[mp3] Beach House - "I Do Not Care for the Winter Sun"](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3052512_lg.jpg)
Ending their amazing 2010 with a gift for fans, Beach House released a free holiday original today via their Twitter . "I Do Not Care for the Winter Sun" is another apparitional, low key addition to the Beach House canon, not so much a teen dream as the Ghost of Christmas Past's. MP3 :: I Do Not Care for the [...]
The Radio Dept. "Never follow suit" from Labrador Records on Vimeo . "Never Follow Suit" is from one of my favorite albums of the year, Clinging to a Scheme , but it's also from The Radio Dept.'s forthcoming retrospective Passive Aggressive: Singles 2002-2010 . This [...]

I guess I should preface this list in some way. 2010 saw a constant stream of great new music, and this list captures the records that stand out to me most at its conclusion, and the ones I anticipate will continue to do so for years to come. But looking over the final draft, I'm struck by a few things. First of all, I'm surprised more at what's not here more than I am of what is. [...]
![[guest post] 2010 in Review, Vol. 8 - Evenings](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3046556_lg.jpg)
Evenings is the solo work of Charlottesville college student Nathan Broaddas, and his North Dorm EP has gotten a lot of play around here over the past 2 or 3 months. It's comprised of scratchy, ambient, soft-beat electronic instrumentals that manage to still sound natural, almost folksy. But it's the subtly hypnotic melodies that stand out on repeat listens, and suggest a promising future for this emerging talent. Here's a top ten of 2010 from Evenings: [...]
![[guest post] 2010 in Review, Vol. 7 - Botany](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3043440_lg.jpg)
Botany is the creative outlet for Spencer Stephenson, and his brilliant debut EP, Feeling Today , was released by Western Vinyl this past summer. I kid you not when I say that it has been one of my most listened to records over the past 3 months – something I can put on virtually every day and not tire of. The title track is gorgeous, shimmering electro/pop - found sounds, vintage samples, and just enough natural [...]
I guess if any song released this year was deserving of a weird video with masked people, chocolate sauce fights, and gay love, Broken Social Scene's "Texico Bitches" is it. Check that out, then a vastly different remix of the song from Star Slinger, who's been all over the place the past few months. Broken Social Scene - Texico Bitches (Star Slinger Remix) by Arts & Crafts [...]

![[guest post] 2010 In Review, Vol. 6 - French Kissing](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3041008_lg.jpg)
A lot of bands have received considerable internet attention this year for a throwback surf-pop/garage-rock sound built on raw guitars and hazy melodies. I dig Tennis, Beach Fossils, The Drums, and many of the others quite a bit, but none of them captured 3 minutes as sonically perfect as French Kissing did on their Sleep All Day 7" "Oh Suzanne". The London trio hasn't released much beyond the long since sold out single, but [...]
![[mp3] Wynn Walent - "Eating the Ocean"](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3034087_lg.jpg)
The world is a better place because of people like Wynn Walent . Not because of his unmistakable songwriting talent, though that's certainly a part of it, but because of how he has spent his time over the past few years. Walent currently lives in St. Damien's Hospital in Haiti, where he works with the sick and impoverished on a daily basis. On a short break back in September Walent got together with his friend Jon Crawley and, in one night, recorded [...]
![[guest post] 2010 In Review, Vol. 5 - Out Like Lambs](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3031298_lg.jpg)
One of the most unique albums I heard all year was the full length debut from New Jersey's Out Like Lambs . Not unlike Lambchop, Out Like Lambs is a huge ensemble who play warm, lived in songs that never feel overcrowded. The songs that comprise their full length debut, Not So Winter Waltz , are steeped in folk and jazz, all sounding as if the sixteen musicians credited in the liner notes just brought in some loose song ideas, rolled tape, and whatever happened, happened. That's not to say the album feels haphazard, [...]
![[guest post] Year In Review, Vol. 4 - The Spend](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3028219_lg.jpg)
As I've done for the past three years on PHW, I've asked some of the artists I've written about this year to reminisce, musically, on 2010. I asked a mix of my favorite local artists, as well as several more nationally recognizable acts, with the hope of having a diverse assortment of reflections on the music that mattered to the artists that mattered to me. This is the 4th in a series of 8 or 9 "guest" posts from some names you may recognize, if you were paying attention this year… [...]
![[mp3] Pandit - "Artichoke"](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3028167_lg.jpg)
Waaga Records just sent over this shimmering, chilled-out new dream-pop gem from Pandit , the solo recording project of Texas singer/songwriter/producer Lance Smith. His debut full length, Eternity Spin , will be released on February 22 and features further contributions from recent Deerhunter remix-extraordinaire Star Slinger and Foxes in Fiction. MP3 :: [...]
![[guest post] 2010 In Review, Vol. 3 - Marah](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3025543_lg.jpg)
After a tumultuous couple of years, 2010 saw the Philly underdogs in Marah return with their finest collection of battered rock & roll anthems in a decade. Life is a Problem borrows its title from a collection of obscure, religious country blues music that lead singer Dave Bielanko found in a Williamsburg record shop in 2008, providing him with some degree of comfort after his band more or less imploded on the eve of the world tour to support Angels of Destruction! [...]
![[guest post] 2010 In Review, Vol. 2 - Meursault](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3022690_lg.jpg)
Though I've unfortunately never set foot in Scotland, I've always felt a strong connection to the country based solely on the fact that my grandfather emigrated here from Glasgow in the early 1920s. In turn, a devoted music junkie like me would also then have an affinity to the many great bands that have come out of there over the past two decades or so – Belle & Sebastian, Camera Obscura, Teenage Fanclub, The Beta Band, and Arab Strap, to name a few. In the past couple of years there have been a handful [...]
