I've been reading through the Hotcakes posts and have realised that I am only writing about bands and songs that I like. I have not shown a critical approach yet. I guess its because I only feel the desire to let the world know about music I like and not music I do not like. But that's going to change. Here goes. Lady Gaga is garbage. An awful, awful excuse for an artist. She should crawl back to a cave in Middle Earth. There.

Came across this a while back courtesy of my mate at the late, great Austin blog The Famousish . It's a short documentary about donk. Donk is 150bpm chavtastic gash that is loved by prepubescent kids up north. This documentary rips the scene to shreds in a beautifully mocking fashion. http://www.vbs.tv/shows.php?sh ow=1217

This is brilliant. Kid Cudi performs his hit tune Day & Night and no-one really cares until the Crookers remix comes in and Kanye just bobs around doing not all lot. Hilarious viewing.

This shouldn't work: Don Diablo , a Dutch house upstart who's recently been touring with Carl Cox among others, and Example a mediocre rapper. However it does, it really does. It's a cheeky number about how cat and dog lovers can't get on with a wicked electro-inspired bassline throughout. Don Diablo - Pussycat too (ft. Example) Depeche Mode ( last.fm / myspace ) have returned with a new album Sounds of the Universe. Haven't heard it all yet but I've been listening to the single Wrong for a while [...]
The Bloody Beetroots at La Superette First posted this on the old blog but it got taken down because I also linked to a forthcoming Calvin Harris single. Anyways, The Bloody Beetroots ( last.fm / myspace ) are an electrohouse duo have been banging out dancefloor fillers for a while that have featured in sets from the likes of MSTRKRFT, Crookers and Herve. They're Spiderman-esque masks are actually traditonal comedy masks from their native Venice apparently. This is an awesome tune from MSTRKRFT essential mix . The Bloody Beetroots - Detroit [...]

There are good gigs. There are even great gigs. Then there is The Prodigy . Liam, Maxim and Keith rolled up at the Birmingham NIA on the 9 th April and left a figurative crater in the ground where the venue once stood. It was amazing to see the life and enthusiasm the electro trio still have after 17 years in the raving business. Having seen then before in 2005, I barely noticed a drop in energy levels after 4 years spent in the shadows, recording their latest album, ' Invaders Must Die '. [...]

Welcome to the new Hotcakes site! Don't worry, all the old posts are here, with links in tact (well, apart from the ones google removed). Add us to your RSS and twitter etc.

New single came out today. I'm not going to write very much about it, I'm just going to give you the link and let you decide. I quite like it, I hoped it would be a darker track, like The Way I Am, but its not, its more of a Without Me, but not as good. Dre still drops a brilliant beat though. The single came out today, and the album, Relapse, comes out May 17th. I'm not going to put up the link myself, because it will just be taken down most likely so here's [...]

That sounds like the sort of title DJO would come up with. But who cares, have you ever seen a decent mash up title? " Hunting For Witches In My Place " is my personal favourite name. This is the best mash up I have heard in a very long time. And I've heard of DJ Lobsterdust . DJ Reno , who I haven't actually heard of before today, has made the album, which constists of his and other people's mash ups of Justice songs. So I just heard Blur's [...]

The master has returned. Oh yes. Gui Boratto ( last.fm / myspace ), the Brazilian techno wizard and Kompakt's surprise darling, has come back with his sophomore release 'Take My Breath Away'. Back in 2007, I listened to Chromophobia on loop for days at a time and I'm sure I wasn't alone in this, so I was a bit hesitant as to whether he would come up with the goods the second time around. But don't worry, he's made us proud. I've been listen to the album for a couple weeks now and, as before, it gets better [...]

I'm not going to lie, I have given this album one listen so far. But it is so good. It beats MSTRKRFT 's first album (The Looks). Fist Of God is so busy, I can now finally hear the Jesse F. Keller that I know. The guy who wiped the the Noise-Funk world with Death from Above 1979. Its so weird how this sounds like dance music. It should, on some level, seem the same as the poppy turd that we hear in the charts from Lady Gagash. But its not. There's such a brilliant difference, and [...]

For the people out there who, like me, just are too inpatient to wait for Monday to come round and Kurt Vile to unleash his latest record on the world, I have truly great news! Smoke Ring For My Halo can now be streamed in all it's alt-country, folk-rock Americana glory by using this little link right here . Those with a shred of self discipline who want to wait, the record is out Monday 7th March through Matador Records ; but I'm sure even if you have decided to wait you'll [...]
