Pharao Black Magic

Pharao Black Magic Swiss duo Pharao Black Magic and their label Is It Balearic? came to some great conclusions as to who remixed their latest single, 'Amulet'. Out of the four remixes, we've highlighted two London based producers who have done some brilliant work on their edits. Reverso 68 provides the disco whilst Begin takes it down a notch for us. Philco Fiction

Philco Fiction I stumbled across Philco Fiction this weekend and I really enjoyed listening to the singer Turid's sweet soprano voice. Hailing from Oslo, Norway, the group have been touring for several years, but their latest release - the 'Finally EP' - has been creating a stir in the UK in 2012. The trio create strong pop melodies, but this isn't saccharine electro-pop. Turid's songwriting seems to be laced with a deep folk melancholy that underpins all their tracks with a palpable sadness. It makes for compelling listening. Philco Fiction - Finally [...]

Lo Hi

Lo Hi Here is the first full track from the forthcoming album 'Lucifer' from dubbed out US duo Peaking Lights. 'Lo Hi' is a gorgeous psychedelic 7 minute love-in of a track featuring the youthful vocals of the couple's young baby. Peaking Lights - Lo Hi

The Hundred In The Hands

The Hundred In The Hands NY duo The Hundred In The Hands have today released some new music from their upcoming album 'Red Night' and it's good to have them back. THITH were one of the first acts to ever feature on our sessions channel and they were lovely people. Previous music from their debut LP is still regularly enjoyed here at our HQ and this track 'Keep It Low' is another great song. The Hundred In The Hands - Keep It Low http://www.youtube.com/watch?v =7uO3ZbpWNIs The single is due [...]

Kidnap Kid

Kidnap Kid We're going up North now, Sheffield-via-Leeds to be precise, to enjoy some of the music that house/breaks producer Kidnap Kid is currently creating. Matt Relton is the real name who under Black Butter Records (also home to Hostage, Rudimental) is releasing tunes that really get us going. His EP, 'Alphaville', was the first official release via the label of which 'Lazarus Taxon' was part of and his Disclosure remix is another gem. THEESatisfaction on KEXP

THEESatisfaction on KEXP THEESatisfaction were recent guests on KEXP and it's the first time I've properly heard them and I can now say I'm a fan. Stas and Cat have been writing and making their own taste of modern soul music which resulted in being signed by Sub Pop who are gradually presenting this breath of fresh air to the world. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v =tsMdBKVD84g http://www.youtube.com/watch?v =64sfpKhdB_U

Extended Kindness

Extended Kindness It's good to see we weren't the only ones left hungry for more when Kindness unveiled 'Gee Up' via his semi-spoof music video. "The album will have the full length version, they always do" I said with assurance but alas, the 1.40 song remained. Cosmic Kids however created an extended version for use in their sets and beyond so now we can all enjoy an extended version of the song. Kindness - Gee Up (Cosmic Kids Extended Edit) [...]

Fink (Sideshow Remix)

Fink (Sideshow Remix) Fink's dub project and musical alter-ego Sideshow hasn't stirred much since surfacing with some delectably deep and moody beats back in 2009 but this evening we've been treated to something rather special. Taking on a track from Fink's latest LP, Sideshow has wrapped it up in his instrumentally-inspired dub sounds with and the result is nothing short of stunning. Anyone who has been to a Fink gig would have witnessed the dub sounds from time to time and the music of Sideshow is well worth checking out. [...]

Snoop & Dre | Coachella

Snoop & Dre | Coachella Here's Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre's show at Coachella last weekend alongside some special guests like Eminem, Wiz Khalifa, Kurupt, 50 Cent and the much discussed 'appearance' of the late Tupac. I'll have me some of that but the Phil Collins sample is felt awkward even here in London! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v =pi1ewyg9l6c

Introducing… Jai Paul

Introducing… Jai Paul When we're pulling together our Introducing... features, its always a toss up between going for artists that are truly just starting out on their musical journey, and those that may have already had some critical acclaim but that we haven't featured yet on the blog. Today's Introducing...falls into the latter category. Jai Paul is a North London based electro-soul artist who set the blogging world alight last year with his glitchy pop track BTSTU. Earlier this month, he finally followed up all that 2011 buzz with a new track 'Jasmine'. Currently this track is still a demo and [...]

Mujava (Crazy P Remix)

Mujava (Crazy P Remix) Sometimes you've gotta turn the clock back and enjoy a classic. Crazy P's remix of the huge hit by South African producer DJ Mujava from back in 2008/2009 is one of my favourite disco remixes ever!

Goldie

Goldie A$AP Rocky - one of our Mahogany tips for 2012 - has just released the lead single 'Goldie' from his up and coming studio album. Produced by Hit Boy, its as explicit lyrically as you'ld expect - but its very catchy. A$AP Rocky has been unescapable lately, not least courting controversy with some bad behaviour at his A$AP show at SXSW. However it's good to hear that the music he's releasing is keeping up the quality it should. A$AP Rocky - Goldie

Touchsoul | April Mix

Touchsoul | April Mix Adrian Dickenson and Gary Pescod or Touchsoul combined their passions for soul, dance and funk back in 2008 and have been putting out some gorgeous edits, originals and mixes ever since. I'm half-way through their new April mix as it's slowly progressing from some deep funk into house and I'm absolutely loving it. There's piles of work here at Mahogany HQ and it's mixes like this that keep me going. Oh and dangerously strong coffee as well. Volta Cab - Excuse Me (Original Mix) Duff Disco - Over To The Left B-Jam [...]

Sea of Bees // Mahogany Session

Sea of Bees // Mahogany Session I'll never forget how nice of a person Julia Ann Baenziger aka Sea of Bees was when we recently met to shoot a Mahogany Session. Sure, the majority of artists have all been lovely since starting our sessions, but you could instantly feel how warm her heart was and growing up as an artist in Sacramento, California may have played a part in that. It was in stark contrast to the sunshine state when we took Sea of Bees outside into the pouring rain to film the session, but fortunately we found shelter underneath a colourful [...]

110%

110% Here is a brand new track from Jessie Ware; a talented lady on a meteoric rise. This is her latest release '110%', which has another rising star - Bristol based producer Julio Bashmore - on the production. Jessie's voice sounds sugar sweet and the the double time beat drives the track along nicely. Jessie Ware - 110%

Coachella 2012

Coachella 2012 I spent my weekend staying up to the early hours of the morning watching the Coachella streams 0n YouTube whilst eating huge bowls of cereal and drinking copious amounts of tea. It would be a dream to be in the hot sun enjoying the unbelievably good line-up but had to settle for a damp and cold North London. From watching and reading about the festival, it looks almost to be like a US version of V Festival with the difference being a stunning year-on-year lineup. By that I mean it's purely a music event that ends at a [...]
