Ooh went off the rails with posting towards the weekend, this is often the case. I seem to be up to other things when the day begins with 'S', usually enjoying company with drinks and music. Women week will be coming to an end, my Karen O post got taken down, I don't mind them taking the song off box.net and emailing but taking down my words is annoying. So thought I'd try and make it up to you by offering a hat trick of ace ladies as I begin to draw Women's Week to a [...]

"Man, this chick can play" is what I thought to myself like a mysoginst idiot. There aint any doubting she plays some killer, lightning fast, loud licks and yet her twiddling still allows for great tunes. Man she makes a good noise. Here is a slice of from her precision noise pie of a second album the annoyingly titled if you're attempting to type it ' This Is It and I Am It and You Are It and So Is That and He Is It and She Is [...]

Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs; coolest woman on the planet? Probably go along with that, who else is there really? Lady Gaga dreams every night of being as interesting, sexy, talented and as vital as Karen O, Katy Perry is essentially pointless, that girl from The Ting Tings has a look in her eyes that suggests inside she's dead. But it's not just about being cool is it? Yeah Yeah Yeahs have made some of the decades greatest releases from the first EP to their latest album. This probably their defining musical moment... [...]

Of all the immensely talented women featured in this here 'Women Week', none of them do to me what Joni Mitchell can do. In my honest opinion I don't think there are many better songwriters man or woman who could rival Joni. Her voice is rich and sweet, the delivery of her disgustingly spot on lyrics is perfection and her guitar playing is unmistakable, she's gotta be the greatest female player surely (we'll get to Marnie Stern later in the week)? It's little surprise that she managed to turn two thirds of Crosby, [...]

Never done a theme on the blog before but thought I'd constrain myself a bit and maybe make things interesting. The theme is broad and doesn't really force too much constraint, in that the only way you qualify to be in the theme is that you aren't the proud owner of a penis- sorry Lady Gaga and the Pussy Cat Dolls I'm still not convinced you're not actually in drag- and you're only getting in on the theme unless the music's great. Gonna start off with Tina Turner. It's an unfortunate fact that Ike bought the best [...]

Was put onto these the other week. They really just deal with thick, psychedelic, wigging out, instrumentals which essentially are just face melting long solo's. So that's great right? Correct it is bloody great. Put up their cover of the Groundhogs song 'Cherry Red', it's a classic but they take second ownership of it. My dear lord how it sends me into a rocking trance. Download: Earthless - Cherry Red And as you'd guess they're great live. They're playing the Borderline [...]
I won't get the game, I'm pretty rubbish at those bash buttons on a controller that's supposed to be a guitar things. The trailer is great though, especially when it goes all Yellow Submarine/Magical Mystery Tour.

I was this many tissues happy. I've spoken to people and seen the blogs, "oh you've only just got it?... Had it for months mate". Yes you've had it for months, and maybe I've been tempted to download me an inferior quality of MP3 leak. But I've earned myself a musical karma point and perhaps an elitist snob point too, because I believe in the release date is something to savour and adds to the magic and anticipation of that album you can't wait for, yet know the wait will make it oh so [...]

Listening to Rob Da Bank's Sci-Fi-Lo-Fi volume 3 compilation of shoegaze 1985-2007. It's a lovely little sonic collection of airy vocals, feedback, jangly guitars and hypnotic drones from all your faves Ride, Chapterhouse, Spiritualized, Dinosaur Junior, tight up M83 and Maps. Have a listen on spotify and click here... Rob Da Bank- Sci-Fi-Lo-Fi
I'm not the biggest Elvis fans, proper Elvis fans the kind that still believe he walks amongst us are often mental. I once saw a documentary of Southern American deaf Elvis impersonator, he signed all the favourites and was certainly interesting. This I believe is the greatest performance of a song I've ever seen. It's not the rarest of footage it's a classic piece of footage, with a stonking backing band of gospel singers, brass and a rhythm section with a truckful of funk, the drums make my knees seize and the bass makes [...]
So maybe it is becoming a tad boring, and me joining the rallying is late. But I always knew The Horrors had something good in 'em, the first album was just a Garage Punk Rock and will stand be 'Count in Fives' being a great little shaker of a record. The new album is by no means original, they've got a MBV record, a Can record, a Neu record and a Jesus and Mary Chain record and made an album to sit alongside these. Listen to Primary Colours on Spotify Download: The Horrors- [...]

Always really enjoyed the work of the sexy-cute Scandanavian Annie . The Fred Falke and Berlin Breakdown remixes are great, I'm leaning more towards the Berlin Breakdown version but Fred Falke is a bit more dancefloor. Download: Annie- Anthonio (Berlin Breakdown Version) Download: Annie- Anthonio (Fred Falke Remix)

As if he should really need it. I was given an incredible book this week by a friend a collection of Paul Weller photo's 'A Thousand Things', which only serves to remind that he has been quite simply the best dressed man possibly ever and I'd make no buts about it. This also pegs his Modfather moniker on him like any boring lazy cliche that distracts from what is important. I always felt that- like Oasis and many others of the laddish brigade , the fans somewhat held back Paul Weller. Paul has an impeccable taste for [...]
The most expensive 7inch got sold, and thank jesus it was as good as this. A Northern Soul Staple. Download: Frank Wilson- Do I Love You (indeed I do)

A new Mini-Mix (let's use that term loosely ) is up on my SpaceHips moniker. Can't stop watching this video from The Peter Serafinowicz Show, which was a mish mash of crap and a hilarious little gems like this. It's the list of food that get's me, so funny. Gonna watch it again.

So here it is the second If There Is Hell Below Podcasts, expect to hear some great tunes from Alex Taylor, Elvis Costello, SALEM, Midnight Juggernauts, Deerhunter, The Horrors, Wooden Shjips, some rare'ish little gems and splattering of mic popping and unprofessionalism that seems to be my broadcasting forte. Podcast Episode 2 (Right click, save link as) I have also set up a twitter, if David Milliband is on it and "tweeting" from Bob Dylan gigs in the soulless o2 megadome then it really is a bandwagon [...]

Ever been lured into looking into you aunts 'Take a Break' or a skanky neighbours 'Pick me Up' magazine? I know I've found myself sneakily flicking through to read "I married my stepdad and couldn't be happier" or "I knew my husband was having an affair, but I wasn't prepared for anything when I saw him snogging the family dog". These magazine have always published ways of getting through hard financial times by printing the readers "Top Tips". At last someone has taken the time to collect these in a blog, my favourites are Jimmy's Healthy Pizza Idea, [...]
