Heavy new track from dystopian hip hop outfit Death Grips . Two albums on the way from them this year. [ via ]

I spend more than a healthy amount of time daydreaming, and most of the music I enjoy has to work itself onto the soundtrack of said daydreams. The cool thing about Lilacs & Champagne is that everything about them fits into my fantasies- from their band name to their label ( Mexican Summer ), and especially, this incredible track. If I close my eyes while listening to "Sensations", I am suddenly floating in a cyan sea of chlorine on a neon lounger. I'm topless and fighting a mild hangover, you know, one of those light ones you just [...]

As some of you may know, I recently relocated to from Dallas to Los Angeles. Before I embarked on the 1500 mile trek I asked a few friends to make a mix. One friend in particular was Matt Foglton, a former resident of the great city. He churned out the best mix I've ever received, which he posted on hits blog Bigger Splashes -a post-Empire musical hinterland of whatever-he-wants. To say this man has influenced my musical tastes would be an understatement-i.e. he introduced my to both John Maus and Ariel Pink as Bush started his 2nd term. [...]

Mad at myself for not putting this in the year-end favorites list. The riffs are crunchier than a handful of doritos.

Remember that band Friends ? I bet you do, that's because there are two of them, one in Japan and one in Brooklyn. The former has recently changed their name to Teen Runnings to smooth out the situation and guess what? I like that better. They put up some new jams on their bandcamp and I scored one of the tracks from Nuravebrainwave . If you dig on some reverb, echo and other forms of bounce-back check out the song below. Teen Runnings - Why Does Everybody Do?

Apparently killing 2011 wasn't enough for Tim Presley, and his plans for domination in 2012 have been revealed: Family Perfume . Set for a two part release this spring, White Fence's third full-length will be a double album from Woodsist. I'm just going to be real here and say that being promised two White Fence albums in a single season is a lot like being promised two orgasms in fifteen minutes. Can most men pull that off? No. But Presley is not just any asshole you picked up at an open mic night. He's seasoned, skilled and supremely styled. [...]
Definitely my favorite track on the record. A$AP does it best when the beat is a fat glob of molasses. Clams Casino , of course, makes this happen. NSFW.
This dreamy video starts off with a Mr. Sandman introduction featuring the members of Behavior dancing around in full colored outfits, crazy-synced crayon style. It was produced by Carlos Charlie Perez and the track is being re-released out now on the Permanent Record 123 LP. guest post by heather mac

Things were different this year, there is no clear cut "best record" as there have been in the past. Instead, this year a handful of records blew us away. Ranging from a collection of beats that somehow sounded better free of the vocals to an Austin trio hell-bent on reverb-ing your brain out of its capsule. Without trying, I somehow ended up with exactly 20 albums, check it out below. 20) Death Grips - Ex Military Mixtape [Self-Released] [...]
This was the bonus track on the Hymn release Tonstartssbandht put out earlier in the year. I was way behind on this but thought this video a good reason to rehash on this unique duo. Check out the original version below.
Pleasantly minimal video from Cough Cool 's next release Lately out on Bathetic . Ghoulish, haunting vocals and woolly distortion make me wish this record came out earlier in the year to contend for our upcoming favorites list.
Great slacker anthem from FIDLAR turned into a nonsensical video where the Grim Reaper and soldiers surf the sands. Out in 7-inch form now.

X-mas jam from Dead Gaze for your drowsed holiday mood. I've added Dent May's holiday track from last year if you want something more upbeat, it seemed appropriate as both of these guys hail from the Cats Purring clan. Dead Gaze - Silver Bells previously: Dent May - Holiday Face

Andrew G. Thompson is the mind behind AyGeeTee , his new record Is IT SAFE? is teeming with ambient-funk noise and ranges from mellow, horn-driven jazz pieces like "CHOOSE LIFE, WIFE" to savory synth movements in "Ssantos Muertos". Is IT SAFE is out on Amdiscs , listen to the full album below and check out the 90s dance montage for "LOVEBURN xtra". AyGeeTee - 'Is IT SAFE?' - 2011 (AMDD085) by AMDISCS
Still a strong bid for my favorite song this year.
Here is a video of the intimate performance Youth Lagoon gave us at Dan's Silverleaf in Denton last week. The sound is perfect, it's exactly as I heard the show. Chris Bryan of Peopleodian created the piece and inserts visions of our the local landscape intermittently through the video. The Denton Archive fb page contains a slew of other videos from recent shows.

We're very happy to announce that the next release on our Forest Family label will be the ambrosial Denver duo Tennis . With their Origins 73 the band hits a musical stride with two new songs, one produced by Patrick Carney of Black Keys fame. The songs will appear on the the upcoming Carney-produced Young & Old LP out on Fat Possum in February. Check out "Origins" below and the places you can pre-order the single over here .
