Jack White Tries to Get Into Guinness Book of World Records with “Most Metaphors in a Single Concert”

As you may have heard, Jack White has recently revealed some beef he has with the Guinness Book of World Records folks over the White Stripes' record for "Shortest Musical Concert" , which was recognized in the 2009 edition , but removed in subsequent additions. Guinness says that since publishing the record, which was set with their 2007 one-note concert at St John's in Newfoundland, Canada, others have challenged its validity - some claiming that just appearing on stage was enough to break the record . [...]

Why Moquu Is My New Favorite App

An eagle-eyed reader tipped me off to a new app called Moquu that has some very special filter names . Check it out: "Jumble," "Sugar," "Aluminum," "Biscuit," "Coffee," "Blue Orchid"... anyone else sensing a pattern? Yup, the folks at Pangalaktik Media (the Budapest-based creators of the app) are most definitely fans of Jack and Meg - all the filters are named after White Stripes songs! Morning Benders No More: Band Switches to “POP ETC”

Out of complete random curiosity today I googled to see what was going on with everyone's favorite almost all-asian band from New York (via California), The Morning Benders and to my surprise they've changed their name to POP ETC . Why the name change? According to a message posted on March 25, 2012 on the old Morning Benders website by front-man Chris Chu , the original name was chosen in haste - but the band discovered a [...]

Jack White - Sixteen Saltines
Ol' Jackie White has released a new music video for " Sixteen Saltines ," directed by AJ Rojas for his second single off his debut solo alum, Blunderbuss (coming out on April 24, 2012). The vid is a little bizarre, with Jack White finding himself in a precarious situation at the hands of a group of Lost Boys painted blue . The rest of the scenes involve kids in various states of causing mischief and self-harm (some of it a [...]

Jack White’s Third Man Records Release 1000 Rare Records Into the Wild

Flexi Disc Balloon Launch for Jack White - Freedom At 21
This is pretty damn awesome! In anticipation of the April 24 release of Jack White's debut solo album Blunderbuss (Third Man Records/Columbia), on April 1st Third Man Records tied 1000 flex-disc records containing an unreleased Jack White album track "Freedom at 213 to blue helium balloons and launched them from TMR headquarters in Nashville, TN. According to the press release, similar balloon launches show a recovery rate of approx. 10%, so probably less than 100 of the 1000 records will actually ever be discovered. But [...]

Things I Ate During Christmas Break

This Christmas I didn't go anywhere on vacation, but rather participated in a NYC-based "staycation." I basically spent a week stuffing my face with some of my favorite foods: Chicken Pad See Ew from Pongsri (Chinatown, Bayard Street location) The Greenpointer with prosciutto from Paulie Gee's in Greenpoint, Brooklyn A journey to Flushing, Queens to try out Nan Xiang Dumpling House . Tried the cucumber [...]

Ryan Adams Live on Letterman in NYC – 12/5/11

Who loves Ryan Adams ? I do! I do! As you may have already figured out from my tweets , just as I was lucky a few months ago when Coldplay was in town , I was again blessed enough to sit in on Ry Ry's intimate performance at the Ed Sullivan Theater for Live on Letterman . According to Ryan, for this tour he is doing all solo sets (yup, no Cardinals) because... he is . [...]

Day 3 of CMJ was an all-day affair at the I Guess I'm Floating / Tell All Your Friends PR showcase at Pianos . The lineup My personal music marathon started out with the Seattle-based upstarts, Beat Connection , who were fresh off the red-eye from the Left Coast. Their set started off with a bit of a bumpy start - with the laptop not cooperating just a couple songs in. While [...]

CMJ 2011: Day 2 – 10/19/11 – Stop the Virgens and Twin Sister

Day two of CMJ turned out to be a free form day. A few weeks ago my friend Kathryn got us tickets to the new Karen O psycho rock opera at St. Ann's Warehouse, Stop the Virgens , with me totally not realizing it was smack dab in the middle of CMJ. Whoopsies! After the show, I decided to push it and headed over to Williamsburg to try to catch King Krule at Glasslands, but by the time I got there they [...]

CMJ 2011: Day 1 – 10/18/11 – Young Magic and Quilts @ Public Assembly

Scenes from tonight: Day 1 of CMJ was a great start. Caught NYC via Australia band Young Magic 's killer set at Public Assembly in Williamsburg. Dreamy, and dead sexy songs. Also managed to catch a few songs by Boston band Quilt at the Mexican Summer showcase in the back room at PA. Some solid sonic noodling.
