How the Artist became the enemy of the Music Industry By Jeff Price In the 80's when I was in high school, smoked clove cigarettes and looked like a bad reproduction of Robert Smith, musicians were larger than life. They were a persona, a style, a representation of what I was and how I wanted people to see me. I connected with them and they represented me. I would spend hours listening to 7" singles and cassettes, reading fanzines, scouring [...]

Our friend Ziggy Marley is back with a new single, Africa Land, in honor of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. We had the chance to chat with him about the new release that is close to his heart, and his thoughts on how focusing on single releases and offering free downloads is helping him get his music, and message, out to more listeners than ever. We found that Ziggy's thoughts are very much in line with what Alan Steward has been preaching for a while now. You can read Alan's article on "Music Success in [...]

From: Zaf's Blog Music from another dimension - Alan Steward You only know what you know goes the saying. I didn't know Alan Steward or his music until he appeared like a ninja onto the EMC scene and totally amazed my ears with his eclectic electronic fusion style which I can only say is not like anything I have heard before. Yeh, you had the psychedelic? music and electro beat boxey type tracks in the past and they all had their place and maybe even influenced [...]
In my six months living in Belgium, I quickly came to the realization that there is awesome talent here and a very multi-cultural music scene but then, when it comes to international recognition, Belgian artists are nowhere to be found. Yes, there was Technotronix but for the rest, people will be hard pressed to mention any Belgian recording artist outside of Belgium. I decided to give you a video sampling of some of Belgium's finest. I hope you enjoy the videos and get a different opinion of Belgian music. Hadise - "Dum Tek Tek" [...]

Review of Licensed to Chill by Steve Croft at www.experiencemyculture.com Steve Croft posted such a wonderful review that I just had to re-post it here on the Slim Chance Label Blog. Alan Steward - Licensed to Chill I have a confession. Although I am predominantly an acoustic music fan these days, there was a time when I could have gone either way. Let me explain. Thirty years ago (when I was five years old) I had long hair and an Afghan coat. My musical [...]

B ehind the scenes at the Temple of Boom. There's a lot a planning and technology involved to pull of the one-man-show that is "Alan Steward at the Temple of Boom". There's the staging which includes a Buddha Statue as well as the type of Chinese Banners you see a lot in Kung Fu movies to set the atmosphere. Then there are the computer controlled lights and a total of four stands just to hold all the keyboard equipment. The picture here shows the main keyboard rig but there's much more. [...]

Just completed a new music video for the song "Buddha Bar Fly". I wanted to do something with a lot of Bollywood flair for a long time and I finally got the chance to put it all together the way I envisioned it. If you like it, share it with your friends.
The experiment has begun. I eluded to this method in my article "Music Marketing in the world of iTunes" and now I am putting this method of "guerilla marketing" to the test. Getting your songs to be noticed, heard and downloaded via illegal file sharing. I made two of my songs available for sharing on Limewire and other file sharing services, "Buddha Bar Fly" and "Swing of the Pendulum". Let's see how many people find and download these songs. I chose the two titles because they would show up for people searching for "Buddha Bar" and/or "Pendulum" [...]
Attention Artists! At the Swing of the Pendulum. My original Blog Post on a return to music revised with some personal thoughts from the the group Pendulum. Alan Steward on a Mission - at the Swing of the Pendulum Alan Steward, the self proclaimed (and so far undisputed) "King of Chill" is on a mission to bring musicianship back to the music scene. If you would ask Alan what the music of Alan Steward is all about, the answer would be: "It's about a return to music". He feels this change [...]
When you ask me for the one song or album that most influenced me and my music, I still keep coming back to Edgar Winter's "Frankenstein". Besides the fact that this song was absolutely revolutionary way back in the early 70s to combine funk, rock and electronic music, that song still represents very much the kind of music I am making today. Edgar Winter took his Moog synthesizer and made it sing, wail and dance at a time where nobody even understood how to use the thing for anything but to 'make noises'. I can't [...]
