Painful Depression and Trauma: My Arm gets broken

Painful Depression and Trauma: My Arm gets broken The Scar that remains I mentioned I was dealing with some pretty heavy issues in an earlier article. I suffer from various psychological disorders including Major depression. This article is about the trauma I suffered after being beaten up by a bouncer in September. Winter Term 2008, I had to drop-out of university, as I became unstable, my depression had gotten to the point of self-inflicting injuries and suicidal thoughts. I was also paranoid and convinced I was hearing voices. There were several factors in all [...]

Song of the Day: Noah and the Whale - The First Days Of Spring

Song of the Day: Noah and the Whale - The First Days Of Spring If you remember in my article on Noah and the Whale's recent live performance (link) , I was upset because I felt "The songs from their debut were very acoustic and natural. It was full of violins, bells, acoustic finger plucking and cute girl boy harmonies. During the performance all the instruments were electric, so the intricate finger plucking that was present in all their songs was replaced by a mushy electric guitar. You can't make an electric guitar sound like the folk style you get from an acoustic guitar and ukulele. [...]

Upcoming things

I'm wanted to let you know that I'm working on a couple things at once. I've got some album reviews and track reviews written, but need proofreading, as well as ideas and starts to other articles. So know while updates might not be everyday, there should be so called "batch updates" I also want to expand this blog to media like porn and film. I also hope to share feelings and thoughts on mental illness and trauma from things like assault. I am a trauma victim and both me or a family member suffers from symptoms [...]

Sunset Rubdown's Dragonslayer leaked: Review and mp3s

Sunset Rubdown's Dragonslayer leaked: Review and mp3s Sunset Rubdown's Dragonslayer which releases in late June has just leaked. Personally I think bands deserve to have control over release dates, but leaks are usually from album reviewers who get pre-release copies. So, in a way they do control the release. I'm posting a review and some accompanying tracks, but of course I'll take them down if the artist requests it. Most of the people who download the album are the same people who will be buying cd,shirts and concert tickets so, I don't think it's that bad. Anyways the review.... and the MP3's (More after the break) [...]

Megan Fox Topless (Not Safe For Work)

Megan Fox Topless (Not Safe For Work) Recently Megan fox was captured without her top. You can't see her nipples but these pictures are pretty awesome. Normally I wouldn't post something like this, because it's not really related to music. But come on...its Megan Fox UPDATE: Apparently these are from May 2008 not 2009. Song of The Day: Beautiful (The Lemonheads)

You know I'm not ashamed to admit that I like pop songs. I'm slowly going to in fact compile a least of those songs and post them. But, for today I want to mention one of my favorite songs. "Beautiful". Popularized by Christina Aguilera, but not written by her. It's pretty personal powerful song, it words lift you up when in those times when you need liftin'. I love the song but I never felt it suited Christina Aguilera. I mean the single came out around the same time she went all slutty; did the dirty video and [...]

Song of The Day: Coming to at Dawn (Sunset Rubdown)

Song of The Day: Coming to at Dawn (Sunset Rubdown) When you find that a band is producing songs on vinyl b-sides that better then any of the tracks most bands make on their albums, well you know you have genius. This song is awesome as is the band. This track was taken from the vinyl : Introducing Moonface (2009). So haunting, so beautiful. I can't wait for Dragonslayer. Also this is limited I think to 500 copies, so I have to say that it won't be something that you yourself would obtain. But, I must say listening to vinyl with the pop and fuzz always makes me feel fuzzy [...]

Song of The Day:El Scorcho (Rivers Cuomo & Friends)

Song of The Day:El Scorcho (Rivers Cuomo & Friends) Rivers Cuomo is my hero. I remember a Toronto show where the entire crowd just starts chanting for El Scorcho. He's not always know for being fan friendly, but he has his moments. Amazingly , while they didn't sing the song, they performed Undone – The Sweater Song, but making the opening "talk segement" the beginning of El Scorcho instead of the typical party banter. Anyways, the point of this story is that El Scorcho is this song about being the shy insecure guy, but realizing that maybe, you're not so different after all. But, it's also [...]

The Rural Alberta Advantage - Hometowns (Album Review)

The Rural Alberta Advantage - Hometowns (Album Review) The Rural Alberta Advantage is a band based in Toronto. This album is country music. Not George Strait, Billy Ray "Achey Breaky Heart" country. This is more like folk rock music that has its heart in the countryside. More specifically Alberta, Canada, the prairies. The music is very identifiable as Canadian. This album deals with living in a small town, leaving that small town and heartbreak. The songs are incredibly catchy and the singer has this amazing unique shrill treble voice that is just haunting. (MORE AFTER THE BREAK) His [...]

Concert Review: Mother Mother (March 11,09 at Club L'ambi)

Concert Review: Mother Mother (March 11,09 at Club L'ambi) Mother Mother is a Canadian band from Vancouver. The concert was held in a small venue, Club L'ambi, with about 150 people in attendance. Mother Mother is a great band. Their tracks are full of these intense elaborate arrangements of voice and instruments. They used harmonizing as a key part of their music similarly to how The Beach Boys use harmonizing. I love the how for instance on their song "Train of Thought" the singer's harmonizing together makes you think your hearing the equivalent of a musical train. This harmonizing is actually one of my favourite parts of [...]

Bowerbirds: A band Jeff Mangum likes

"In Our Talons" by Bowerbirds
I hadn't heard of Bowerbirds, till a fellow E6 Townhall user, "wingedfeetxc" exclaimed he met Jeff Mangum at one of their shows outside Mercury Lounge in New York City, this April. (link here) . Apparently he noticed Jeff coming out the door of the venue to have a smoke and went up to him to confirm it was him. Anyways, I'm a Neutral Milk Hotel nut, so I had to check this band out. I discovered while checking their myspace, that I just missed their Montreal concert (May 1), so I was bummed about that. But, I [...]

Fighting the Pitchfork Assasins: Noah and the Whale: Peaceful, the World Lays Me Down Review

Fighting the Pitchfork Assasins: Noah and the Whale: Peaceful, the World Lays Me Down Review Pitchfork is a great music site, I find a lot of great stuff there. However, I've more then once seen simply crazy reviews of awesome albums. So I figured, that in some cases it should be necessary to go write new reviews for the albums I feel that Pitchfork gave undeserved flack to. What Pitchfork Said: "You've also got your trite generalities, ridiculous philosophical musings, utterly banal narrator, and, most damningly, no recognizable sense of humor." Rating: 2.6/10 link One could be critical of this album; you [...]

Concert Review: Sky Larkin (March 21,09 at La Sala Rosa)

Concert Review: Sky Larkin (March 21,09 at La Sala Rosa) I saw Sky Larkin open for Los Campesinos! on March 21,09 at La Sala Rosa. The place was fairly full filled with around 300 people. Normally I don't review the opening bands, but I had to do a concert review for these guys. I wasn't expecting anything really. I didn't even know there was an opening band. Opening bands usually aren't to die for but I really liked Sky Larkin. The members are cool and free-spirited. I used the above picture, because the singer often slammed her eyes shut during the intense parts of the songs. It was as if [...]

Concert Review: Noah and The Whale (April 28,09 at Les Saints)

Concert Review: Noah and The Whale (April 28,09 at Les Saints) Picture above is the original Noah and the whale line-up. Unfortunately they have rid themselves of their female members I managed to catch Noah and the Whale performing at Les Saints, in Montreal, last night (April 28,09). It wasn't a crowded show with only around 250 people in attendance. I was really excited to see Noah and the Whale play. Their album was one I could listen to the whole way through [...]
