Among the most confidently original dance music producers around, Peverelist always operates somewhere under the radar. 'Aztec Chant's acid house drum machines and Photek breakbeats spiral into the heart of the bassbin. 'Livity' encapsulates the life-force its title refers to, almost maddeningly alive with jabbing keys, a writhing spine of bass and overwhelmingly layered rhythmic patterns. Real dubstep; this record will make your bone marrow buzz and your skin dance. Vinyl is supposed to be on sale now at http://punchdrunkmusic.com/ but is missing at the moment; keep checking! [...]
The debut EP from Bristol's Lrusse & Bleecker lands this week on Audio Culture Records. It's a 3-tracker of crunchy, low-fi house and techno with a lot of found sound and sci-fi influences. It's been finding favour from the likes of Will Saul and Tom Demac, and you should check it out with the set below. Available now from Juno Download or Chemical Records if you're of the vinyl persuasion. [...]
The Build Up just posted this mix from Gaz Clarke aka Local . Bass Music colleague Shaun and I DJed before him in Take 5 Cafe in Bristol recently and I really enjoyed his set, obviously the work of a man who'd carefully handpicked and well-mixed housey tracks with a clear theme: the influence of African music in some of its diverse varieties. It made for a great party selection, reaching a hands-in-the-air climax near the end in the form of Henrik Schwarz's focused and positive banger - his remix of Emmanuel Jal . [...]
Good chap, cracking DJ, and more recently, brilliant album artist, Typesun is bringing his brand new live show to Bristol tonight, also at Exchange. One of Bristol's newest clubs, they've been putting on nights - both dance music and gigs - of an consistently high quality, rightfully putting themselves on the venue map of one of the world's most musically-alive cities. Check this recent feature in Venue about the Typesun ting. PS Don't think we ever posted the most recent single, here it is: [...]

Image: Tiger Tateishi's '100 Tiger Eccentric Conduct' Automatic Tasty - The Joys of Departure (Photic Fields) Here's four tracks of beautiful analogue UK acid house from an Irish producer. Softly inquisitive melodies and shifting polyrhythms undulate into smile-forming and nostalgic tunes, reminiscent of Aphex Twin's Ambient Works 85-92 . It's rare to find music like this, especially done so well, with such perfectly sequenced form and instant appeal. Available at Phonica here. - [...]
Great new South African house sounds here, always a treat, considering how rarely the good stuff seems to be locatable or available in this country. Unfortunately only one track from the EP is available to hear right now, but I promise you that the rest is even better! Pre-order here, ahead of the March 5th release date: http://www.truepanther.com/blo g/dj-spoko-ghost-town-ep#/stor e/releases/ghost-... Check out the interesting write-up on the label's website about Spoko, his sound, and his underrated influence, especially in light of DJ Mujava's crossover [...]
Pictured is part of Chris Pell (AKA Murlo)'s 'Story of Hoku'vale' image Murlo - Don't Mix That Vol. 12 I'm bewildered at the lack of press for this guy. His music is a mix of garage, bashment, soca, UK funky, and grime, but somehow manages to pull it off with some of the most clear and instant style and production, and a hard-to-believe ear for catchy melodies and preposterously sweaty rhythms. Truly the most slept-on producer of [...]
Yeah, I said it's a classic, I don't care if it came out last year, Legowelt's 'Elementz of Houz Music' is a stunning submarine voyage through ocean depths and spinning galaxies, and one of the most immersive and poignant bits of house slash techno ever made. Now it's been remixed twice by Actress, a being who is literally not of this world, as is evident from his music. Gorge yourself on these samples, until the release on Clone Jack For Daze in mid-March. [...]
Pictured is Maximum, a Botswanan metalhead. Photo credits: Frank Marshall. Link here. We're big fans of Maiovvi, the Berlin-via-Bristol powerhouse of dark body music, as you might have noticed. This is one of the best things I've heard from him; a blend of industrial, old skool electro, classic Chicago house bassline grind, and Italian horror soundtrack (note the name of his label). The video is great. "I wanna punish you... for being so cute" Antoni Maiovvi 'Darkroom' [...]

I haven't been round these parts for a while, I do apologise.Though like a resilient dog poking his nose up through the rubble of a devastating city centre earthquake, I return, and like that resilient dog I have a battered newspaper in my mouth which carries the news of what club nights are going down in the Welsh capital of Cardiff this weekend. City Bass are up on Saturday with their first proper party of 2013 after the excellent friends and family type affair they threw over at Aura a few weeks back. They've got Freerotation resident Jane [...]
Brilliant DJ. This is a pretty firing 50 minutes of club tracks. Of particular interest might be the inclusion of some of the new so-called 'jackin' stuff which dominates the middle of the mix. Kind of bassline-influenced, hype-driven, often-northern 4/4 music with big silly basslines and cheap hip hop breakdowns. Marcus Nasty has been adopting it as a mainstay of his sets recently. I like the thickly-accented MCing on the Ill Phil tune, it seems to give the sound a bit more identity, as this jackin' stuff can, at times, stray a bit too far to the cheap and nasty [...]
It's cool how people are releasing stuff on cassette again (see Young Echo and Astro:Dynamics). This is an interesting and highly listenable collection of diverse and melodic music from a gang of Leeds-based people featuring some that varies from intricate beatworks and soft, sputtering experiments to more sub-bass-swathed and technical soundsystem moves. Worth a dabble; it's unusual and the standard of quality is very high. It's only fackin' 3.99, you should buy it from this great new Bristol-based shop and have a look at [...]
I've got a serious boner for this one, and not just because I'm warming up on the night. Mosca and Pangaea were present at an early Crazylegs lineup when I'd just got involved with the night, and it's nice bringing people back who've been consistently great even when the musical landscape has changed so much inbetweentimes. I'm sure you're familiar with their stuff if you're into good club music. Mosca's lately been on a good tech house kind of vibe - sounds like an oxymoron to some I'm sure - but he's got such a good ear for [...]
Such a nice mood to this track off the forthcoming album from Typesun. There's something so nervy and tense and anticipatory in those bassy string hits and the long-held chords. As a backing track to the equally impressive vocals - sounding somewhere between Stevie Wonder and Joe Dukie of Fat Freddy's Drop - this does a lot. Subtle, understated, and a perfect build-up single for the album, which I've heard, and is awesome. Lovely bit of soul music. Our lads Behling & Simpson jump on the remix with a fine cut [...]

Took a stroll through the cold down to Catapult Reocrds today to pick up the new Organ Grinder release that's just come out on the Cardiff based record shop's own label. Those of you familiar with The Organ Grinder's sound will know what to expect by now - old school influenced, swung house music that doesn't let itself become as pastiche as so many of the 90s house tribute acts that seem to be rife at the minute. (A side Jersey Jam is found above) Of the two sides, 'My Rendition' (above) is my favourite, its been a staple [...]

For all reggae fans or just even music fans, this is something who blew my mind recently and I just cant wait to see the final thing. Based in Israel, Kalbata is a producer but also reggae records collector, he did bassusicblog mix 13 for us and is also responsible for some great releases on Soul Jazz or Greenmoney. In 2011 with producer Mixmonster he recorded a strictly analog album, which means no computers at all involved, like they used to do in Jamaica back in the days. In 2012 they travelled to Jamaica to find & record [...]
More slow, bassy and swung house vibes from Behling & Simpson, this being their second outing away from their usual home of Futureboogie Recordings. Plenty of support from various big dogs including Midland, Maya Jane Coles, Ripperton, Dyed Soundorom and a bunch more besides... Grab the vinyl here. === Binga. Permalink | Leave a comment »
Got some selections from some of our favourite people this weekend. Bass Ache mix #016: Typesun - Little Big Tom's F**k the Journey mix First up is Mr Type, deservedly getting lots of attention right now, this time from our mates at the Bass Ache blog. This is his first chance since releasing some music to finally show the non-Bristol public what a great mixer and selector he is: http://bassache.net/podcast-01 6-typesun/ - Karizma - [...]
