Here is a small but extremely potent taste of Flux Pavilion's upcoming remix of the song Cracks by the UK's Freestylers . Not suprisingly, this remix makes use of some of the producer's signature sounds such as tempest blown chimes and his infamous "screeching lazer synths" which can rip a face right off the skull. This tune is gonna be a mega-stinker when the full version drops later this summer on Circus records , a label Flux started with childhood friend Doctor P . Save your quarters, you will need to go [...]

Electronic music producer and skateboard enthusiast Hans Edquist (aka: Barletta ) has been a very good friend to us here at Plugged Not Thugged, and we would like to wish him a very happy 24th birthday. Barletta is a prime example of how great the Toronto scene can be because this guy doesn't just put his heart into his tunes and shows, but into everything he loves, including his community. Back in May we had Hans out to our first LARGE MARGE , a new monthly thrown in conjunction with Major Rager . As per [...]

It's the first Saturday of the month again and that can only mean one thing: disaster. The monthly party hurricane MAJOR RAGER is back in Kensington for the eleventh time and things are going to be as sweaty as ever up in this bitch. This month marks the return of the UK Connection (UKC), a group that brings down the warhammer hard on dancefloor party rockers with their reggae, dancehall, electro and UK funky heat. Things are gonna get hectic tonight, so buckle up and arrive early! For those looking to keep raging past [...]

Anyone remember real hip hop? I do. Cormega is one of those rappers who effortlessly paints a vivid picture of growing up in the infamous Queensbridge housing projects of New York. I think he has to be one of the most slept on artists and here are a couple gems from his past albums. Cormega - The Saga (Remix) Cormega - Beautiful Mind

I thought I would never say it, but...think I really like dubstep. Ever since Plugged Not Thugged agreed to become the official sponsor of BASSMENTALITY , Zed's Dead and Killabits ' insanely popular-bi-weekly in Toronto, I have been exposed to dubstep regularly and have become more and more fond of dubstep and heavy bass music as a result. While stomping out rib-rattling bass lines is almost exclusively Billionaire's job, I just can't help but post Sub Focus ' remix of Rusko 's overly laid-back dubstep song Hold On [...]

I have totally relapsed and returned to my tech house and minimal addiction over the past month. My addiction has been kicked back into high gear because I couldn't help but dabble in heaters such as Ramon Tapia 's remix of Kaiser Souzai's 2009 tune Hurry Caine . While both the original and the Tapia's remix kick ass, I really love how Ramon altered this tune by making it sound so eerie. Through the addition of ambient sounds such as hollow drips and drops, the remix successfully took my imagination below the [...]

I see signs like this around town sometimes. Some people do need to be told, but we like to figure it out for ourselves here at PnT. A little round up of some recent favorites... Poland's Pol_On (ha!) reworking this bit from Andreas Saag (whose Hyph Mngo remix is absolute bliss), pairing back the original's vocal bits and sequenced analog in exchange for some thick sine wave subs and sexy strings under the drum bed. Out now on Freerange Records . Andreas Saag - People Say (Pol_On [...]

Most of us are familiar with Dutch electronic music duo Mason , famous for 2007's number one UK Dance Chart hit Exceeder and the mash up version starring the controversial Princess Superstar . Well, the duo has recently produced another - albeit less - popular number called Corrected which has been remixed by some spicy electronic producers such as Riva Starr , Alex Gopher and Freaky Friday . It's been a minute since I received these little kernels in my electronic-mail inbox and it's about time [...]

Well, the duo has recently produced another - albeit less - popular number called Corrected which has been remixed by some spicy electronic producers such as Riva Starr , Alex Gopher and Freaky Friday . I received these remixes as promo in my email, so let's promote! Check out each of these tasty [...]

I usually try my best to check some of the incoming music and promo material that is constantly flowing into my itty-bitty inbox. To be honest, I usually fail miserably as evidenced by the fact that I have not yet posted a single jingle that was submitted via e-mail to the blog. Well, today I got two sweltering stingers from newborn UK label BiZ Music and I have decided that these tunes just can't be ignored. Introducing Circuit , a young 18 year old baby-banger who pounds out HEAVY lazer-beam-screech-and-shock mega-monster electro zingers that will scare the [...]

The PnT crew is really excited to announce that we have some amazing exclusive mixes coming our way from some of our favorite producers. We just received an absolutely massive tech-house mix from our friends Curious George & The Agent (UK) as well as one from the First Lady of Beatdown - Lady Blacktronika (USA). We also look forward to a promotional exclusive from our hometown turntable champion DJ TASC (CAN), which will be available for download here at Plugged Not Thugged before his new EP with rude boy Marcus Visionary [...]

I started this post after returning to TO following an absolutely mind blowing set from one Mr. Henrik Schwarz at this years Mutek Festival and then totally forgot about it. Certainly the highlight of my Saturday night if not my whole experience at the festival was this soulful rework of Omar & Stevie's I'm Feeling You cranked through the Metropolis sound system. Tune has been around (and blogged) for a while, but looks like it just got a official release this past May. Incrediheat. Omar - Feeling You (Henrik Schwarz [...]

Minimal tech-house producer Seth Troxler has been kicking the shit out of my ears for the past couple of days. Originally from America's tech-hub Detroit, Troxler has been living in Berlin for the past couple of years producing shoulder shaking tech-tunage that keeps feet moving and brows sweatin'. I have recently been neurotically bobbing to Each Step , a collaborative effort between Troxler and Switzerland's techno-titan Deetron , released through Circus Company . Deep synth bombs with scuttling high hats and vocal monotonicity create a desire for back alley chases and late [...]

This Friday June 18th you can catch Chase & Status playing on the city's best sound system in the main room of The Guvernment night club. Destiny and TorontoJungle.com are again bringing in another huge headliner just 2 months after they drew around 2000 to the Andy C jam at Kool Haus . For more information about the event including ticket info check it out HERE and HERE . Check out the link below to download a relatively recent mix from the UK bad boys. See you on the dance [...]

Pupkulies & Rebecca is a fantastic group out of Berlin which produces experimental pop, tech-house and dub infused ear burners which give me goosebumps and keep my body and mind pure. I just ran into this succulent remix of their ultra-catchy tune Burning Boats, by funky psych-house duo Masomenos out of Paris. Beautiful female vocals with slow piano keystrokes and constant kicks make for a great Sunday afternoon tune that will sooth the soul and mind. Too bad it is Monday. Pupkulies & Rebecca - Burning Boats (Masomenos Remix) [...]

The Killabits have been in the studio again and have sent us over some heavy artillery. Our Toronto homies have been crazy busy with their Bassmentality bi-weekly @ Wrongbar in Toronto which built up one of the rowdiest and most energetic crowds in the city. Catch them when they bring down 16 Bit on July 21st! The first tune has already hit 100,o00 views on Youtube and is a perfect example of that high energy party music that these dudes just love to make. The Killabits - [...]
Love this. Out now on Fools Gold . SCUBA!

British rapper Kano has hit a huge home-run with his latest track 'Get Wild', produced by Boys Noize and featuring grime guru Wiley and dancehall demon Aidonia . Kano makes it rain on this track - from his forthcoming LP 'Method To The Maadness' - with his wickedly tight and bouncy flow over a ruff n' powerful electro-dancehall infused beat that includes heavy kicks and perfectly timed plinks and plunks from an often neglected musical instrument: the xylophone. This club crushing track is guaranteed [...]

Baa-baa black sheep, have you any wool? I am not sure about wool, but Baba Black - a dark tech house tag-team from Denmark - definitely has more than three bags full of heavy production coming your way. Dj T.O.M and Dj BUDA , the two Danish masterminds behind Baba Black, chopped their first release - The Sheep EP - in January on Palms Out and have tons of new banging artillery on the way. My personal favorite is Dirty Sheep, check out this bad little chunklet along [...]

Reaching back to some classics from New Yorks Cutting Records , here are a few timeless cuts from one of electronic music's greatest producers... Hashim .
