This is where I mention some of the stuff I've been listening to other that I don't usually post about. I'll run it down a bit like the Top 10, except you probably won't find Justin Bieber up against Usher. I say probably... 10. I've posted this guy before, and I must say, his sound is deteriorating a little, but this track is pretty good as a 'pop' track. It's the usual chopped-up affair from GOLD PANDA , but this [...]

Hey, I'm not one to judge, nor am I one to pry on political correctness, but is it just me or are music videos getting a little too-big-for-their-boots? I was just thinking recently about a few videos, and how some of them are done really well, and how others are done well in some respects, but maybe have gone a bit too far. When I heard one of my favourite comedians Peter Serafinowicz - mute scientist of Look Around You , terrifying voice of Darth Maul , zombie housemate of Shaun ( [...]

For the 50th post on this blog, I thought I'd do something a bit different - talk about hip-hop in the 'post-modern' age. Nas once said that hip-hop was dead, but I think in his head he didn't believe that, or at least he doesn't now. In the past few years, I've seen a lot of hype played around a lot of hip-hop producers and artists, but a lot of it is false and unjustified - merely just hype. In a day when Kanye West can sell millions of albums, it worries me how hip-hop can have become like this, [...]

So this month a few remixes have come to my attention, and they're pretty seminal to modern electronic music, particularly this global rhythm - a blend of techno/garage/2-step/house/dub step with a bit of something for everyone. I truly believe this kind of music could be slipped into almost any set and go down a storm. Take note. Okay, so a good place to start things off is yet another mix by SBTRKT . This one's too big to miss though. It's been around for a while, but it's absolutely incredible, and a great set-opener (heard it [...]

So! Our boy KANJI KINETIC has a new EP out, and it's lush as fuck! The title track, "Zombiezz" is a B-movie (B for Bass) dubby grinder that uppercuts you when you least expect. The remixes are also pretty sick, but the B-sides are a bit more interesting (in my opinion), blending rave stylings with bassline stop-drops and rolls, and one of them ( "New Era" ) a d'n'b type dubstep blaze. I'll give you one of the B-sides, but you can preview the other tracks above and buy them if you like any! [...]

Starting this post off with a BANG, I think I'll expose some of you to some new talent. DIE ANTWOORD are a crazy trio from South Africa. Kinda like the Afrikaans answer to Coco Solid or Bumblebeez . Check their insane video below. SLAP IN THE BASS are a bassline/electro/house duo specialising in Lee Mortimer -esque insanity, though parts of it remind me of the more ravey Kicks Like A Mule , Squire of Gothos or Kanji Kinetic . They're also known as Dirty Monkeez , who [...]

So I haven't posted anything since January...pretty bad I guess, but who really cares? There's been plenty of bangers cropping up in the past few months, and I'll try and whittle it down to the essentials...so that's some originals, some mixes, and a couple of Portuguese music videos... So first up, I'll give you what I think are some pretty fucking hot tracks at the moment. I'm not kidding, mix one of these bad boys into your set and you'll have the [...]

Sooo I haven't really posted much on here for a while...but I guess that's for the better, 'cause I've just hit a load of hot tracks. I've been getting into the more garage/UK funky side of dubstep these days, a lot of it verges into house and techno but it's still all really about rhythm. I was fuckin' around on the internet earlier and stumbled into the recent Gilles Peterson Radio 1 show where he had Thom Yorke as a guest. Surprisingly, Yorke was quite relaxed and chatty - he seems like the temperamental sort usually. [...]

2009 wasn't bad music-wise. I felt a bit alienated by a lot of chart music though, loathing most chart music, mainstream hip-hop and R'n'B, as well as a lot of dance music. But I also embraced underground hip-hop and dubstep more than I had any other genres before. I do like to listen to the bass-heavy side of the music scene at the moment, so I thought I'd post up a few of my favourites (whether they're guilty pleasures or not) and a few overlooked masterpieces, as well as some brilliantly fresh stuff. HAPPY NEW YEAR, [...]

So yeah there were a few tunes I thought I'd set aside for a slightly later post. These are fairly chilled, but in a way not. Just in comparison to the others below. BAOBINGA & I.D. make sick tunes. I've mainly heard them cropping up in Fabriclive mixes by Tayo , Stanton Warriors and FreQ Nasty , but also here and there. They seem to blend what's fresh at the time on a [...]

Anyway, I shall carry on. I thought it'd be wise to split the posts up as there's a lot to cover and WordPress's formatting system/Firefox/Mac OS X can't seem to handle me typing too much. Let's get on with this. Everyone in the electro world seems to be teaming up and making epic tunes that you can't help but nod your head to. For example, Diplo and Laidback Luke , and Crookers with Congorock , and then we have LEE MORTIMER and FOAMO [...]

OH MY GOD WHUUUT Had a pretty hectic weekend, remembered this tune by SHARPS (sampling both 2 Unlimited and clips from The Warriors ), as well as this awesome' track from RANDOMER , whose set I missed at Hospitality Oxford on Saturday night, but met him afterwards (nice guy, as was this guy ). Check it: [...]

I suppose you're all wondering what the new COEN BROTHERS film is like? Well I went to see it this evening, and I'm gonna say this: it's very different from their usual films, it's more of a deep, philosophical comedy drama. Some (denser) audience members may leave feeling cheated, or fail to be entertained, but upon reflection at the ending, I found the film to be very clever, and begin to make sense upon reflection; when I left the cinema. Just go and see it, if you're intelligent, and want to be entertained. It's about as [...]

To New Zealand artist LEN LYE , whose animations I have recently discovered and find incredibly genius and want to watch them over and over again. There are plenty on YouTube, but not in the best condition (they're better projected if you can find copies). But here's one of the best condition on the 'Tube - this one was created by scratching into the film, so as you can see was handled by an absolute master of animation. All of his films are upbeat and vibrant. I hope you'll enjoy Free Radicals : [...]

HELLOTHERE. So been listening to a lot of heavy, dubby, grimey stuff recently, and still not bored yet. Most recently, I've realised how good DZ is at producing, whether its his own tracks or his remixes. They've been popping up everywhere. C'mon, he even managed to make Major Lazer 's worst track sound half-decent! Anyway, his style is a rumbly dubstep bass with clattering percussion and occasional waving synths, so what's not to like? If you haven't injected this stuff into your ears yet then watch out, you might eject something else... I [...]

Hello boy's and girls! So for my course I was asked to make a short film in 5 days, and I managed to make this in 2 days (filming and editing with whatever spare time I had), and it's gone through a few edits (I removed some of the effects and couldn't find the original font I used in the first edit), but this is pretty much the finished product. It's a tribute to the wonderful minds of Kieran Hebden , Daniel Dumile and Otis Jackson Jr , and dedicated to anybody who actually [...]

"Float" - Zomby (zshare) "Dark Alley" - Starkey (zshare) Enjoy.

Is anyone else confused by the weather? Not sure what it's like near you, but one day it's sunny, the next it's like the underside of a sodden moose. It does mean we can snuggle up all warm though, and gives us more excuses for drinking, sleeping, watching telly and listening to music... So RINGO DEATHSTARR are an ace new shoegaze band...they sound a little bit too similar to My Bloody Valentine, The Jesus & Mary Chain, or even The Cure, but there's nothing wrong with any of that. They're a little looser and punkier than [...]
