Today's Friday Free Feature is inspired by a "brain itch" or a song I can't get out of my head. Some good friends of mine call it "being song f@*ked." Whatever you want to call it, Silver Jews ' "Random Rules" is rattling in the old noggin' and I have my dear friend and Dadada collaborator, Craig (aka C.L. Cucumber) to thank. He suggested we perform it at a recent open mic. Anyone who has attempted to learn a song knows you need to bath in it, soak it up, and let it [...]

Dntel – Bright Night [mp3] (from Aimlessness , out June 5 th ) Electronic artist and producer Jimmy Tamborello continues to deconstruct and reassemble music and beats to the delight of weirdoes and iconoclasts (myself included). His music as Dntel is very different from The Postal Service collective (with Ben Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie ), but could still win over some converts of conventional electro-pop. Volcanoes [...]

Everett Hagen and Jimmy Spice are Brut Choir . The duo from Little Rock released Barest Bones just over a year ago. This is a " Postal Service " style recording, where the two passed tracks back and forth in recording sessions. Its dark ambience is peppered with noisy guitar drone, haunting vocals, cold synth, and drum loops. The result is a perfect tonic for curing your "morning after a late night" blues (at least that's how I feel this morning). Check out: "Barest Bones" [...]
