Madonna's " Revolver " has been playing on my iTunes for the past couple of days, and I was surprised to find I actually like it. I haven't really been all that into Madonna's recent work, it just isn't that great. "Revolver" comes off her two disc Greatest Hits Cd "Celebration," and it is a modern club song that will be easily played often on Top 40 stations. It has a synthesized beat that is more like a mix between Britney Spears' "Radar," and the Yeah Yeah Yeah's latest disc 'It's Blitz!' This song should suit Madonna [...]

Dappled Cities are a five-piece band from Sydney, Australia. Originally called Periwinkle (which is an awesome name btw), they have toured Aus and New Zealand extensively while also having traveled to the UK and the US, even performing at the SXSW festivals. They've even received good album reviews from places like Pitchfork. All of this makes it even more surprising that I've never heard of them. About a month ago, they popped into the Triple J studio (radio station) to do a cover for the segment aptly named 'Like A Version'. They chose to perform Animal Collecti [...]
St. Vincent released the music video to " Marrow", my favorite track off of her sophomore album 'Actor' released back in May. She adds that bit of oddness that I love. When she spells out Marrow during the chorus while she is walking down a narrow highway, she seems to capture the attention of a family, road workers, thugs, and cops as they seem to be magnetized by her gazing eyes.
New York – Rag & Bone seemed to be talk of the town—and talk of the blogsphere—this past Fashion Week. A design duo best known for their military influenced, simplistic approach to men's fashion, Rag & Bone did anything but step out of their element this season. Models were sent down the runway looking somewhat tussled and unkempt, clothes were loose and somewhat flowy for a men's collection. The palette this season was soft, faded military greens, pale blues and varying shades of gray with weak blacks for pop. The simplicity of the colors [...]
Miike Snow debuts their new music video for " Black and Blue " which is off of their self titled album released back in May this year. The video's concept was pretty unexpecting and direct.

I always love some new Thom Yorke , and with Radiohead supposedly not releasing a full album for a while, this is a nice distraction from the long wait. "The Hollow Earth" is released today on vinyl as the b-side to "Feeling Pulled Apart By Horses" and the record is available through Radiohead's W.A.S.T.E. store and in "good record stores". "The Hollow Earth" also features fellow Radiohead member Jonny Greenwood. Thom Yorke - "The Hollow [...]

The Canadian electropop group, Dragonette , is back with their second album, Fixin to Thrill. The latest song off their new album, " Pick Up the Phone ," already gets a little remix treatment. The Richard X version gives the great original a luring dance beat. I'm a fan of both the original and this remix. By adding some steller syths and keeping Sorbara's original vocals, the song accomplishes a great 80s feel that makes you believe like you are under the disco ball. I'd say definitely download! It's a jam that will leave [...]

It sounds like The Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas has been watching VH1's I Love the 80s marathons. The first single from his solo LP, "Phrazes for the Young" (due Oct. 20 in the U.S.), displays a vastly different sound from The Stroke's signature guitar rock. Casablancas' recognizable croon soars through bolts of synths, and twirling guitarwork, giving us a good reason to turn the old garage into a dancefloor. Julian Casablancas - "11th Dimension
I must admit after listening to Neon Indian's cover of " Another Likely Story " by Au Revoir Simone , I've kind of become a mini super fan. The original version was excellent and the remix was well, more excellent. Click here to view the embedded video. This time around Neon Indian plays an acoustic cover of " Mi Viejo " by Jose Piero . I must also admit that I have never heard of Jose Piero . And I don't speak Spanish. [...]

Mika is back to thrill us with kitschy pop and happy times. His latest release, "Blame it On the Girls" comes right off the back of his first single, "We Are Golden" from his upcoming album of the same title, being released stateside, September 21. The track follows typical Mika-style with the usual snaps and clicks and stomps and piano jams, but in a noticeably updated style. Lyrically it feels a little more creative, and there's definitely a lot more dimension to his new music. He's definitely exploring his options production-wise. This one [...]

Attending a Tony Cohen show is a promise of floaty dresses, relaxed silhouettes and etherial looks; and the Spring 2010 collection does not disappoint. With wispy sheer dresses and tops that glide over the models' frames, it is a beautiful departure from the body-conscious clothing that has inundated the runways as of late. Cohen's use of asymmetrical seaming and bejeweled necklines give an unusual pop to what could have been a more bland piece. While splurging for a fresh-off-the-runway item may be harder than it once was, a fabulous dress with built-in jewelry allows the buyer a [...]
Check out this great band from Minneapolis, Total Babe ! Armed with a quirky name and an even quirkier attitude, this trio blends Dream pop music with a stylized folk structure. Each song off their new EP - Heatwave - is brimming with personality . I have uploaded two songs from the EP, " BearBones " and " Gary Coleman ", my two personal favorites from the album. Listen to these two songs and visit their Myspace for information on the band, tour dates, blog entries and some just plain old goofy photos [...]

Panda Bear played in New York at the ATP festival on September 11. As you can expect he let the creativity flow, unleashing(?)/improvising(?) two new songs during the set. As of now the songs remain untitled. In the better of the two there's a really interesting ambient jungle feel to the track - and with the right production I could see some magic being made. The Animal Collective founder is crooning about something semi-audible about time, but is it the right time? the wrong time? or some existential idea of time that only [...]

After appearing on the premiere of The Jay Leno Show for a pseudo therapy session and an emotionally ripping silence after Leno asked "What would your mother think?" in regards to the VMAs incident. Mr. West said he needed some time off. (video of interview via Nah Right ) But Rolling Stone says otherwise with the announcement of Kanye West & Lady GaGa's "Fame Kills" tour dates . Nov. 10 – Phoenix, AZ @ US Airways Center Nov. 11 – San Diego, CA @ Vegas Arena Nov. 13 – Las [...]

It's a little over a week until Volcano Choir 's album, Unmap, debuts, but another song from the band's already leaked album grabs attention from many. "Youlogy" in my mind didn't go over very well, it was almost too experimental and out there for me to understand. But I have different feelings about the band and upcoming album (I have yet to hear the whole thing) after hearing the track titled "Seeplymouth. " Volcano Choir, made up of Milwaukee's Collection of Colonies of Bees and Justin Vernon of Bon Iver, can be [...]
Click here to view the embedded video. Since her 2008 album release " Any Where I Lay My Head ," a compilation of Tom Waits covers and one original song, Scarlett Johansson has received mixed reviews from the indie world. Easily criticized as an actress turned musician, Johansson has chosen to ignore her critics and recently followed up " Any Where I Lay My Head " with 2009's " Break Up ." with Pete Yorn. Although " Break Up " has received some mixed reviews, I can't help [...]

To remix some bands could sometimes be considered taboo, but this is the exact opposite when speaking in terms of the Swedish new wave group The Sounds . The lead singer Maja Ivarsson has that sassy, pop type of voice that transitions perfectly over to the Techno/House music realm. Which is probably the most logical reason as to why they are constantly being remixed by Dj's today. Here is another great remix of a song from The Sounds . This track is full of all the greatness you know and love about Techno music, [...]

What the fuck... I'M SOOOOO SORRY TO TAYLOR SWIFT AND HER FANS AND HER MOM. I SPOKE TO HER MOTHER RIGHT AFTER AND SHE SAID THE SAME THING MY MOTHER WOULD'VE SAID. SHE IS VERY TALENTED! I LIKE THE LYRICS ABOUT BEING A CHEERLEADER AND SHE'S IN THE BLEACHERS! …………………… I'M IN THE WRONG FOR GOING ON STAGE AND TAKING AWAY FROM HER MOMENT!…………….. BEYONCE'S VIDEO WAS THE BEST OF THIS DECADE!!!! I'M SORRY TO MY FANS IF I LET YOU GUYS DOWN!!!! I'M SORRY TO MY FRIENDS AT MTV. I WILL APOLOGIZE TO TAYLOR 2MRW. [...]

Aah, the VMA's. The night where most of us (half of which are Britney fans) tune in to watch our favorite celebrities perform on stage and pray for one of them to win a certain award. And most importantly, to watch the to-be-talked about and contrevorsial appearances on the show. And to laugh at the hideous outfits *cough*Jennifer Lopez*cough*. And to hope that Britney will show up (like in the past 3 years) The 2009 MTV VMA's started off this year with the one and only pop legend Madonna giving a very touching [...]

Peter Bjorn & John We Have Band have created a re-imagination of Peter Bjorn & John 's "It Don't Move Me", one of the many hit songs from PB&J's latest album Living Thing . The first thing I noticed as I listened to We Have Band 's remix is that it doesn't seem as heavy as the original. The original mix starts out with a low piano intro whereas the remix doesn't introduce that particular riff till later and I didn't even [...]
