This week's Contrast Podcast is all about the wonderful world of mashups, otherwise known as the art of taking two or more songs and making a new beautiful bastard offspring. I couldn't pick one from the hundreds of wonderful ones out there, so I thought I'd have a go at making one. Oh the joy. I present DJ Marcel Dejuene's first and possibly only ever work. I think that the new music video from Marianne Dissard says more in its images than I could manage in a few fruity meagre words. For those of you who don't do French: The deaf sheets First, it was the cat when it started raining. It slipped under the sheets, as if it was at home. But we didnt care, and under the wet sheets kept going. The door opened to your drunk friend who thought he
It's been a while hasn't it? Usually I'm so far behind with my podcast making that I don't publish the episode until a Tuesday evening. The nature of this week's episode meant that it's already done and I've had time to make an alternative version of my own on Mixwit. Contrast Podcast 123 - All Stars
It's been ten podcasts since I wrote about the Contrast Podcast here, and I'm only back now to share a video with you! This week's episode is all about songs with spoken bits in them and I chose a version of 'Are you Lonesome Tonight' where Elvis cracks up when he changes the words to something about 'bald heads'. He really wasn't funny and I think this video proves it: Now listen to this
After almost two years of collaborative musical joy, The Contrast Podcast has merrily skipped into triple figures with it's 100th episode. As the ringleader of the band of reprobates who put together the weekly dose of tunes and introductions I feel rightfully justified in being just a little bit proud that we've made it this far! However, the real credit for keeping the cast going must go to
During my lovely Christmas holiday I got a day to myself and spent it with my guitar and songs. My efforts almost add up to an acoustic EP that I'd like to share with you: 01 Grey star 02 Surface noise 03 Heartache maker 04 Who's you father? 05 Ours us ours 06 My bones Please let me know what you think.
It's almost the end of 2007 and time to enjoy everyone's end of year lists, including the one produced by the listeners and contributors of the Contrast Podcast. It was inspired by John Peel's Festive Fifty, but actually has 54 songs because I wasn't going to leave out my favourite song of the year! The Contrast Podcast Festive 50 Just in case you are curious and you haven't gone straight

What could be more pleasing than to play music with a plastic bear head on? This week's Contrast Podcast might come close. Enjoy.
This week's Contrast Podcast has two pure ingredients, limericks and excellent music, mixed into a heady blend of poeticical loveliness. It really shouldn't be missed so get listening now: contrast podcast 82 - limerick intros On an equally joyful note the video to Gotta Go by Victor Scott has won the best music video prize at the Canadian International Film Festival. If you live in Vancouver
This week's CP has the theme of Time and is as excellent as always. I was particularly tickled by the Flight of the Conchords song submitted by Marcy from Lost in your inbox: contrast podcast 81 - time I hadn't heard FOTC before and since then I've dug up quite a few of their videos on youtube. Their rapping abilites particularly impressed me .... .... and they speak pretty entertaining
The last couple of episodes of the Contrast Podcast have been very interesting and popular with the themes of Infidelity and Short songs. The second of these was requested so many times that I didn't think I could give the credit to anyone in particular for picking it. Next week the podcast will be simply looking at Time. If you'd like to take part by picking a song based on this theme and
Last Saturday PJ Harvey played a solo show at the Royal Festival Hall in London and I was in the fourth row lapping it up. From where we were sat the show lived up to the intimate tag it had been given. Polly played a good selection of stuff from across her catalogue including a few early tunes that would have had me jumping up and down like a mad thing if it hadn't been a seated gig. Here's
Nothing for a couple of months and then two posts in a day. It can't last. I just stumbled across the video to a song that I have been enjoying for quite a while and it's only fair to share. It's by Spielerfrau and it's got some great words. Make sure you listen all the way to the end for the lyrical assault in the last 12 bars!
Hello. As you might have guessed I've been soooooo busy that I haven't even had time to update TFoT recently. Life has given me a right royal rollercoster ride over the last couple of months with many of the major facets of the human experience (namely births marriages & deaths) playing their part. Through this all, the good old Contrast Podcast has chugged along delivering it's weekly deposit
