Over the past 10 days, I decided to make this poll called "Who's Hot In Ottawa's Music Scene 2012″. I wanted to see what kind of feedback from those who usually check this site out. Try to get a sense of what is happening in the Ottawa music scene. With the feedback came positive and negative reactions. As I stated before, this poll is for fun and not to be taken seriously. There were six different categories for you to vote for and going to make them separate. I am going to reveal the [...]

![The Pelts & Suns of Stone @ Zaphod Beeblebrox [March 10, 2012]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4123717_lg.jpg)
It was the last night of Zaphod Beeblebrox 's 20th Anniversary week long event. They ended it off with Bourbon&Spice Burlesque who I didn't see. But there were two band that played • The Pelts • Suns of Stone (No site yet since they are brand new) Both of these acts was my first time seeing them live. They were really good. Suns of Stones having that [...]

I always wondered what happened to Montreal/New York's Flotilla ? Last time I saw them was two years ago at Raw Sugar Cafe . Found out they changed their name to Plumes . Plumes consist of: Veronica Charnley Geof Holbrook Eveline Gregoire Looks like the drummer left, which could be on the name change or wanted to change in a different direction. Let's say they are using full orchestra on this song [...]
![Rococode @ Mavericks [March 9, 2012]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4122194_lg.jpg)
I finally got to see Vancouver's Rococode play at Mavericks in Ottawa on March 9, 2012. Having missed them open up for Mother Mother back in November 24, 2011. The band are in touring mode promoting their debut album " Gun, Sex and Glory ". For those not aware, the band consist of four members who are Andrew Braun, Laura Smith, Johnny Andrews and Shaun Huberts. I've seen Andrew and Laura play in different acts one being Hannah Georgas. ![Paper Beat Scissors @ Mercury Lounge [March 9, 2012]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4122068_lg.jpg)
Tim Crabtree who goes by Paper Beat Scissors played a great intimate set at Mercury Lounge on March 9, 2012. The Halifax musician was promoting his self-titled album. I thought he would have a backing band but it was just simply him. The night before he played at Montreal's Casa del Popolo and had a nine piece band backing him. They happened to be Mike Mike Feuerstack, Pietro Amato and Leif Vollebekk. [...]

You should check out Oberhofer from Tacoma now living in New York. Started out as Brad Oberhofer's (Hence the name of the band) own work of indie bedroom pop music and now has become a band. Oberhofer will finally drop their debut album "Time Capsules II" on March 27, 2012 through Glassnote Records . I listened to the "Time Capsules II" and it is a kaleidoscope of layering sounds of guitars, drums, xylophones, whistles and percussion. Kind of reminds me of Rich Aucoin with that style of music on the piano and catchy lyrics. [...]

![John K. Samson & The Provincial Band and Shotgun Jimmie @ Mavericks [March 8, 2012]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4119774_lg.jpg)
It was a overwhelming sold out show at Mavericks on March 8, 2012. Playing at the show was: • John K. Samson & The Provincial Band • Shotgun Jimmie This was my first time to see John K. Samson play solo. For those not aware or living under a rock, he plays in the Weakerthans . He was promoting the album " Provincial " which [...]
![TOPS – Rings of Saturn [Music Video]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4117782_lg.jpg)
There is something about Arbutus Records that I simple like. As much as I loved Montreal's Silly Kissers with their fun new wave dance pop. I should give a chance to TOPS . Basically the same members but the music is exactly opposite. Think of it as more mellow new wave pop with a touch of soft rock. Something you would hear from the soundtrack to Top Gun or something 80s. The band dropped a music video for Rings of Saturn. The single is taken from their debut album " [...]
![Paper Beat Scissors – Rest Your Bones [Listen/Download]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4117297_lg.jpg)
The one time I have seen Tim Crabtree who goes by Paper Beat Scissors was two years ago for this intimate session . Paper Beat Scissors just dropped his self-titled debut album. Here is a blurb on the album. "Paper Beat Scissors' self-titled debut obsesses over ends; ends as states of loss, ends as places for reflection, ends as necessary preconditions to new beginnings. Tim Crabtree's haunting voice lies at the centre of everything, with an honesty and rawness that skirts discomfort" . Have a listen to Rest Your Bones [...]
![Mike O'Neill – Henry [Listen/Download]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4117205_lg.jpg)
Any fans who remembers the indie rock band " The Inbreds "? Mike O'Neill who is now solo, is promoting his new album " Wild Lines ". Have a listen to the leading single " Henry ". A catchy indie pop rock tune. Here is a blurb about "Wild Lines". Wild Lines has sounds that range from the explosion of the noon gun on the Halifax Citadel to the intimacy of a phone call between friends. It has hip [...]

The song is taken from the upcoming album "Spanish Moss and Total Loss". That album will drop on on June 19th, 2012. Hopefully by then they will do a summer tour. ![Sick Friend – The Draft Dodger [Review]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4112797_lg.jpg)
It's been a while since I last heard from Montreal's Sick Friend . The duo has finally released The Draft Dodger, which has nine tracks, each about 1-2 minutes long. When I heard the first track, "Cottages", Sunset Rubdown was the first thing to pop into my head. There's a mix of Cotton Mouth and Parlovr in there, with its messy guitar, pop rock sound in tracks like "Nothing Tragic" and "Sleep Late". Despite it being a very short album, I really enjoyed The [...]

Today Joel Plaskett Emergency dropped a ninth single, entitled Time Flies . This is the ninth song (One more left and it is done) in a series of ten to be recorded and digitally released by Joel and his band The Emergency; one song a week for ten weeks before Scrappy Happiness drops out on March 27, 2012. For more info about this ambitious project, check out CBC Radio 2′s post . I bought the single on iTunes ! Here is what I think of the single: It has that deep [...]

Dirty Ghost (not to be confused with Dirty Beaches or another band that starts with Dirty) is the brainchild of Allyson Baker who is married to Aesop Rock . She recently dropped the debut album "Metal Moon". Have a listen to the leading single " Shout It In ". If you are into the gritty rhythms & pulsing beats of the sound. You will like Dirty Ghosts and her indie rock sound. Don't forget that Dirty Ghosts will be in Ottawa on [...]
