So, the new year is upon us, academically speaking. That means many things, mainly being inundated with flyers for nights and events that are bad. It also means that many people will be affected by the freshers week epidemic, known as 'hybrid accent'. You know what I mean, a ten-word sentence containing ten different accents, stolen from various hallmates/new friends. Fake Blood has a new EP. The once-mysterious Theo came to prominence in his current guise with one-time-blog-favourite-turned -ringtone-banger Mars. This new stuff is different, it's fun. Fake Blood - Fix Your Accent (160 - [...]
S'il Vous Plait takes place tomorrow night. Be there or ... I dunno, make other plans?

Justice's mix for Fabric was rejected. That's not news. But the fact that some/most of the songs they included are actually good make come as something of a shock to the faddy banger seekers. "You can't put a Julien Clerc track in a dance mix", they cried. "Frankie Valli in a Fabriclive compilation?! Justice have lost it!", others squealed. Not so. Eclecticism is usually an excuse for people who don't know what they like. The mix could be labelled as eclectic but think of it more as variation on a theme, much like SVP. All the [...]

S'il Vous Plait is not a public service. This is what I should tell myself before releasing bonafide speaker gems out onto the streets of Manchester without trying to put one over all the other DJs in the Cottonopolis. But I can't keep this one to myself, it's just 'better'. MP3 : Hannuleari - Metropol Brilliant. And I'll tell you what else is brilliant, we're only a week and away until SVP disco in town, there's a link to details on the side bar. If [...]

Here's another old one from Blouse. MP3 : Cosmo Vitelli - Robot Soul (Black Strobe Remix) From 2001, cool. plinky plonk from blouse, image from a spooky unknown source

My mac is purring like one of them cats up there, it might be down to the sofa it's sitting on being of extreme purr-friendlyness, or it might be this little ripper, what a cool bassline. You watching the match? 3 - 0. Good stuff. MP3 : Embryonic - Trip trip from blouse, image unknown maths cats

I mentioned Neonized in the last post, I think it's my favourite spanish thing apart from my sister's dog Gumbo, and Conguitos - those little sweets. They do retrospectives now and again, in the last week or so they've put up some awesome Soundstream tracks and now they have put up some Turbo stuff. Now Turbo I find hit and miss, but back in the day when it was all fresh and exciting they brought out some super clever stuff. This I had forgotten about for 7 years, but I will play this at SVP. [...]

Apologies for the post-less week, 2 out of 3 SVPers are sunning it in Barcelona and I am in torrential Manchester, so it was a protest of sorts. That, and no internet. Anyway, back now and going through last weeks deluge of music, this has caught my ears already, steady electro pop utilising a range of synthesized sounds. This could be classed as an SVP barbecue track. MP3 : Eero Johannes – Lipton Service Boy Nice huh? track [...]

Another nice one from France (we think we're onto a winner with this French name thing, shame Xavier is no longer with us huh?). This will go down real good at SVP which is on the 18th September. Simple italo-ish bassline thing, vocoder, blah blah blah, you know the score. MP3 : Saihuun - Break Your Name (Yuksek Remix) Nice light switch that - guaranteed happiness right there. track from stoney roads, picture from the bale backers or something

A fun weekend had by all, though we heard very little interesting new music. In fact, the best record I heard played out was Lindstrom's remix of Jetstream, which although being a fab record, doesn't get me annoyed that I don't know what it is, if you know what I mean. It was however Pride Weekend in Manchester, so it's appropriate that we - as connosieurs of fine camped up disco - post something that would make us dance in the company of happy men. Hmmm, the best I can do is this new [...]

Played this at the last S'il Vous Plait, it's well nice innit. MP3 - Rhythm Droid - Sunrise on Planet Tokyo We woud like to go to Tokyo, but we can't really afford it, ah, life's a bitch. track from TMS, poster from the band The Dead Weather. ace.
Vote for us in the reknowned Manchester Blog Awards, if you click here and tell them why you visit us we may get a mention. Thanks in advance and all that.

So, the disco was good, we're looking forward to September edition a lot. We should tell you - and this will mean nada to our international friends - that we're at the forefront of the anti-postclubgushing of our fellow promoters here in Manchester, we will try not give the people who attend a collective nickname, we will not lie to our friends about how many people came and what idealistic social behaviours the subscribed to, we are honest and humble and just trying to have a decent party. Can I throw an uncouth word in? [...]

Not much to say except that it's S'il Vous Plait disco tonight in Manchester, hope you can make it down. If not, poo-poo you! MP3 : Fare Soldi - Il Vecchio e il Mullet (Rodion Remix) Growl! track from blouse, thanks, cool pic from pulp book

Two and a bit days until SVP, should be good fun, get down and fill your boots with all sorts of synth-heavy boat rockers. I wet myself a little bit when I saw this. MP3 : Metronomy - Do The Right Thing (Wild Geese Remix) Metronomy (one of SVP's key soundmongers) have got a girl singer on board and are re-relaeasing last years album with a bonus diskette full of remixes and the like. Wild Geese are the bestest, so this cocktail should be top of the menu. [...]

Already content with the amazing MAY68 (I think that's how you spell it at the moment) representing how to do good things live with synthesizers in Manchester, we have now found the quite amazing Kiss In Cities. I know nothing about them, in that I don't recognise them or anything, but you can find lots of stuff on MySpace and that. This record is doing the rounds, super! I think they're Dale fans aswell, thus the Spotlands picture. MP3 : Kiss In Cities - U R My Girl [...]

This is new from Italians Do It Better, one of the greatest record labels in the world. This produced by the same guy behind providers of no-wave love Chromatics and Glass Candy. Like a brat pack version of High School Musical, on ket. MP3 : Desire - Under Your Spell music from waves at night, picture from but does it float

I've been jet-setting like a bitch - apparently you can't get jet-lag from an hour and a half flight from Denmark. They have a point, but they don't take into account the journey from London to Manchester on top of that, so I'm pretty tired because I've travelled 20 freaking years back in freaking time. Leo Zero is top dog at the moment, get involved with this 'from the cutting room floor' 80's trop-pop. MP3 : Unknown - Hey Hey (Leo Zero Re-Edit) Oh, and though it's very shit, [...]

Très frais - S'il Vous Plait Mix Cinq - This one's by me; Todd. You can download it from the link below. As before, we'll be making some nice CDs to give away at various shit we attend. We'll have some with us next Friday too, get your sens down to our disco and get one while they're lukewarm. SVPcinq (mediafire) 1 Fred Falke - Chicago 2 Boy Crisis - L'Homme (Run Hide Survive Remix) 3 Beni - My Love Sees You (Etienne de Crecy Remix) 4 In [...]

Why I haven't posted this song before now is beyond me. The ability to create such a great track using simple composition techniques seems a lost art in the current musical age. I suppose it makes the good stuff stand out all the more. Flight Facilities is a name that has only come to my attention in the past few months, but their limited productions have definitely caught the eye/ear. This remix of Japanese band The Lowbrows is probably the best so far. mp3 - The Lowbrows - Dream In The Desert (Flight [...]
