This new video for Ready, Able by Grizzly Bear is a dark journey through a world in flux. Directed by Allison Schulnik, this is stop animation done right. Get Veckatimest at their official site .
Before its release, Yoni Wolf (the frontman and lyrical wizard behind Why? ) was quoted as saying " This record, Eskimo Snow , is really the least hip-hop out of anything I've ever been involved with." However when One Rose was recently remixed by Alias, it transforms the song entirely injecting a more optimistic feeling off a generally sombre feeling record. As well, it reveals the hip-hop influence is still there lyrically. Hoping [...]

The new video for Animal Collective's In the Flowers is an exercise in art house excess. It just feels tired as it brings out all of the cliches of indie videos: there's marionettes, drawings, stop animation, interpretive dance and hyperactive psychedelics. It revels in the pretension. Good luck figuring out the narrative while you are inundated in images of flowers, and fridge magnets that spell out the lyrics. Unabashedly literal yet lacking any structure. Feels like a first year student took a lot of acid and put all their ideas into 5:22. The worst part is that it's a really [...]

In anticipation of the upcoming release "Teen Dream", Baltimore's Beach House is leading off with Norway, a tour de force performance, highlighting the duo's strengths. Victoria Legrand's strong emotional voice once again is at the heart of things here. Organs, guitar, and vocals coalesce in a way we haven't heard from their usual stripped down aesthetic. Nothing is really lost in this more produced version of Beach House, it's rather lovely. Teen Dream can't come soon enough (January 27th) Beach House - Norway

Pretty much where I'm at right now. Feeling the blahs, yet optimistic about the future. Picking up the pieces, moving forward. Passion Pit - Sleepyhead (Ring Trick Remix) Thieves Like Us - Desire (Really Like To See You [...]
I have become obsessed with Karin Dreijer Andersson aka Fever Ray. If you aren't familiar you may know of her as one half of the electronic duo The Knife. The self titled album, Fever Ray is in my top ten for the year, easily. With minimal electronic beats, dark ambiance and cryptic lyrics, the mystery contained within keeps me coming back again and again. The recently released deluxe edition is well worth a purchase as it contains two bonus discs one with live material and another with four videos for the album. A great surprise is two covers [...]

One band that I've been following closely in the last year would have to be Metronomy . Blending indie pop with new wave sensibilities, their tracks are often humorous and soulful. It's a difficult balancing act that they pull off with style. One of their early tracks makes for the perfect update today my most favourite of holidays: Halloween. The video isn't the best, what with an awkward, badly choreographed dance sequence, but the duelling bassists is quite interesting and explains the distinct [...]
After doing an update about A Trak's mighty new remix of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, I made note that it would be a perfect track for Halloween. It got me thinking about making a mix inspired around it. What resulted was an electroclash/dubstep/dance mix. Moreover I wanted to make a playlist that doesn't contain the same tired tracks you always hear endlessly around this time of the year. Rejoice, there's no thriller, psycho killer, or tubular bells in sight. Happy Halloween! Tracklist La Roux - Tigerlily (B. Rich Remix) [...]

I have always been a big fan of Anticon records. The first song I heard off the label was Rifle Eyes by cLOUDDEAD and I knew then there was something special happening in Oakland. Over the years the three members of that group Odd Nosdam , Yoni Wolf , and doseone have all made some great music in their own right since cLOUDDEAD dissolved. In the last year I was lucky enough to see Dose perform as a part of Subtle, and Themselves. When I saw the latter, it was an exciting [...]

Maybe A Trak's best work so far. Keeps Karen's voice front and centre but transforms it from new wave to full blown club banger. Given the lyrics in this song it's perfect for your halloween partying. Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Heads Will Roll (A Trak Remix)

Bursting onto the scene in 2007 with a remix of M.I.A.'s track Boyz, Brazilian duo The Twelves have quickly become one of the best around. They have managed to do something most remix DJs fails at, and that's being able to by create a distinct sound all of their own. I picked a dozen of my favourites by them to give you a sense of what they`re all about. Also included in this post is the Twelfth Hour Mix the guys did for BBC1. It's amazing! Follow them on Twitter @thetwelves. [...]

A nice mixture of youthful exeburance and nostalagic yearning. Dialogue and animal noises from the film are weaved into the music masterfully. It's interesting hearing Karen sing against a warmer musical backing compared to what the Yeah Yeah Yeahs can provide. Karen O and the Kids - Hidaway

The latest from the voice of Radiohead, and it's definitely for those that liked the Eraser, and more electronic oriented offerings from the band. Feeling Pulled Apart by Horses sounds an awful lot like Paperbag Writer at first, a killer Radiohead B-side which Thom has been playing at live shows lately. Pulled Apart is driven by the bass at first while Yorke's voice is ethereal and moody. At around the 4 minute mark a wave of synths begins, with the bass dropping away, replaced by a clicking metronome. It's really gorgeous. Would love to see Modeselektor get their hands [...]

AIR gets back to their lounge roots with Love 2. There's a cinematic quality to the album, with a lot of instrumental tracks. The best element going for it is the use of Moog synths. Very lush and warm sounding, with an air of mystery. Love 2 would be best used as background music for a dinner or cocktail party. I guess this isn't exactly a glowing review. Still worth a listen if you are a fan. AIR - Missing the Light of Day
