![WET GET US…EXCITED [STREAM]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4878828_lg.jpg)
Regret and uncertainty have never sounded so tantalizing. Minimalism, harmony, and an incredible voice all combine to form one of my favorite original sounds thus far into 2013. I knew this to be true about ten seconds into the first song I heard. Meet Wet . “U Da Best” finds the subject going back and forth in her head, full of doubt about the person whose arms are wrapped around her – “All I know is, when you hold me, I still feel lonely, only when you hold me…” These [...]

The project of four guys from Long Island, Rice Cultivation Society have been writing, recording, and performing since 2005. Sky Burial , their fourth and latest release, though, seems to have taken them in a new direction - while their music has previously been described as lo-fi acoustic/electro folk, their new album proves difficult to categorize. In this case, however, our inability to pigeonhole their sound proves to be an asset. Their new sound definitely contains some experimental elements - while “King Midas” and “Sky Burial” can get psychedelic, songs like “Purple [...]
![IVAN & ALYOSHA ON TOUR WITH NEW RECORD [STREAM]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4878537_lg.jpg)
Whether you’re looking for fresh sounds to add to your running playlist or new tunes for contemplating the meaning of life, Ivan & Alyosha are here to help. Their debut full-length album, All the Times We Had , was released on February 26th under Dualtone Records and features eleven of their rootsy-pop songs, many of which have the potential to become dreamy spring and summer anthems. Lyrically winding in out of the realms of love found, love lost, and an overall exposition of the questions lurking behind the fragile human [...]
![MT. ROYAL DELIGHTS WITH ‘MISSING REWARD’ [STREAM]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4878538_lg.jpg)
Not surprisingly, "Missing Reward", a cheerful, badass ace-of-a track, is just as intricate as the band who created it. Behind the killer, go-lightly/get-moody single is Baltimore band-of-bands concoction, Mt. Royal . Formed by the collaboration between several strong talents, these seasoned musicians seem to have been brought together by fate. Of all the collabs in town, (and we hear there are plenty) this group of Baltimore residents seems to have fine-tuned the art of artist mixology better than the rest. The stellar essentials behind Mt. Royal’s sound [...]
![BAY’S INDIE-ELECTRO TRACK LEAVES US CRAVING MORE [STREAM]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4873067_lg.jpg)
Queue in BAY , hailing in from Croydon, South London, with a novel and not-so-shimmery indie-electro recipe. With hidden hip-hop synths, spectacularly heavy horns, and playful guitar, these guys are well-versed in their category and then some. This delicious track, in all its tasteful, new-level build, had me at the onset… and I don’t care who knows it. With a sound that can be paired almost effortlessly with that overplayed (never over-rated) indie-electro suit, BAY’s , “With You” is, at first glance, a mere extension of the been-there, played-that [...]

As the days get longer and the frost-bitten climates of a prolonged winter slowly start to thaw, what the world needs is a healthy dose of something a little sunnier to complement the changing of the times. Cue Caveman and their self-titled sophomore LP. It might not quite crackle and blister with scorching heat, but this hazy slice of audible sunshine definitely washes over the listener with a flurry of heartfelt and feel-good fun. For the most part, the Brooklynites' latest offering is pretty straightforward and simple, but, despite its lightness, the record's combination of [...]
![LILY & MADELEINE’S SWEET, SOPHISTICATED SOUND [STREAM]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4872824_lg.jpg)
After stumbling onto a video of sibling wunderkinds Lily & Madeleine , I immediately rushed to learn more about them. The teenage sister duo out of Indianapolis was discovered after their covers on YouTube caught the attention of producer Paul Mahern, who invited them to record some original songs in the studio. With the help of bassist and songwriting partner Kenny Childers, the siblings wrote The Weight of the Globe over the course of their summer break and recorded it in three days. The brand of folk pop that Lily [...]

When I first listened to Nick Cave , I was in it purely for the darkness. The misery, the pain, the howling angst and the discordant noise of his early works with The Birthday Party and The Bad Seeds hooked me - sure, “The Ship Song” is pretty, but I wanted to listen to “The Mercy Seat” again. It was years into my Nick Cave obsession before The Boatman’s Call finally took hold of me. The record is quiet [...]
![FLUME PLAYED MUSIC HALL OF WILLIAMSBURG [PHOTOS]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4870763_lg.jpg)
Photos by Ray Thomas I absolutely love feeling the energy of a moving crowd, and boy, did FLUME have Music Hall of Williamsburg dancing like there was no tomorrow. Watching Harley Streten perform for the first time made a lasting impression - at the age of only twenty, he's incredibly talented and knows how to craft insanely good electronic music. There wasn’t a single person on the main floor, the sides or the balcony that didn’t have their bodies moving with the music. In an interview he gave with Dazed [...]
![SLOW MAGIC MAKES SURREAL SHORT FILM [VIDEO]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4870764_lg.jpg)
Elusive electronic producer Slow Magic teamed up with Sudden Black for a mystical short film built around his incredible track, "Feel Flows." The result is utterly transportive. Watch above and listen to other highlight "On Yr Side" below.
![TAKE FALLULAH WHERE SHE WANTS [STREAM]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4870507_lg.jpg)
Scandi singer Fallulah has officially stepped onto the scene, bringing with her the flowery and fierce anthem of addiction, “ Dried Out Cities .” This Danish dame’s sultry pop vision is both a seduction and an invention built to last. Giving the loveliest of makeovers to the super similar-sounding Misun , and stepping away from the girl-on-indie genre reminiscent of Lana Del Rey , this chick stands apart from her genre contemporaries, and we’re digging her for it. With a far-from-shy effervescence and a no-nonsense [...]
![HOCKEY ARE BACK WITH FANTASTIC NEW TRACK ‘EXPLORER’ [PREMIERE]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4868550_lg.jpg)
We're so thrilled to present you with this freakishly flawless single, “Explorer”, off Hockey’s soon-to-be released album, Wyeth Is . This fine track is not only one of our new jump-off addictions, but it just stamped a new identity (and a killer one at that) on a band that hasn’t graced us with an album since 2009. Don’t be fooled by their past disappearing act, though. This synth-pop doting duo is more than familiar with what’s good in the indie-rock circuit, and have come back to prove it. With [...]
![HAERTS PLAYED A SOLD OUT CAMEO GALLERY LAST NIGHT [PHOTOS]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4868551_lg.jpg)
Cameo Gallery was filled to the brim last night for Neon Gold's latest showcase featuring the beautiful HAERTS . I saw them at SXSW, and while that set was amazing, their performance last night really proved to everyone in attendance that this band is for real. Photos from their set, plus the only song they have released thus far, below. HAERTS
![HUNTER HUNTED PLAYED MERCURY LOUNGE [PHOTOS]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4868289_lg.jpg)
After a highly successful SXSW (where they played one of our parties), Los Angeles five-piece Hunter Hunted visited out fine city of New York and one of my favorite music venues, Mercury Lounge. Their high energy set was captivating from start to finish - they even wooed fun. guitarist Jack Antonoff, who was in the crowd cheering the band along. Photos from the show below. Hunter Hunted
![TAP YOUR FEET ALONG TO LEAGUES’ DEBUT ALBUM [VIDEO]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4867950_lg.jpg)
Absolutely everyone needs more melodic indie-pop in their lives - this is simply a known fact. Fortunately for those of you who, like me, have been aimlessly and fruitlessly scrolling through their iTunes libraries for weeks, Leagues has arrived. The Nashville band’s debut album, You Belong Here , is just the kind of sunny, jangley pop that’s absolutely perfect to begin your day - the fact that you’ll continue listening for the rest of the day is just an added bonus. The single “Spotlight” shows off the best of the band’s [...]
![KHUSHI’S POIGNANT, POWERFUL POP [STREAM]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4866419_lg.jpg)
What is it exactly that distinguishes the exceptional from the forgettable? It’s often referred to as “x-factor,” and whatever that “x” represents, London singer-songwriter Khushi has got it. The four tracks on his Soundcloud are made up of warm, pensive acoustic pop with minimal digital effects. “Magpie” stands out among the tracks for its catchy, sweet refrain, “I want you, not somebody else...” Simplicity suits Khushi by allowing his poignant lyrics and pop melodies to win us over. Light and ardent, there’s just something about this music that tells me [...]
![PROGRAM SHARES A TASTE OF WHAT’S TO COME [VIDEO]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4865895_lg.jpg)
The Wild Honey Pie is always a bit excited to be one of the first to write about a band that will surely be gaining a lot more attention shortly. Toronto indie rockers Program are one of these bands. With a little help from producer David Newfeld ( Broken Social Scene ) they have created "Waiting" - a song with the raw energy of Joy Division and the epic nature of Arcade Fire . We may be one of the first to write about Program [...]
Week's Top Releases The Albums You Need to Know About Every Week This week, like usual, is jam packed with incredible releases. NYC's post-rockers, Caveman , are dropping a dreamy, expansive sophomore album that you're really going to dig, while LA indie rock darlings, Rilo Kiley , are releasing a collection of rare demos and unreleased tracks that's likely to provide fans with sheer joy and a little closure after their breakup a few years back. [...]
![DALE EARNHARDT JR. JR. HAVE SPRING FEVER [STREAM]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4865602_lg.jpg)
Detroit dance pop favorites Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. just announced the release of their follow up to their excellent 2011 debut, It's a Corporate World, with the equally danceable EP Patterns. The lead single, "If You Didn’t See Me (Then You Weren’t On The Dancefloor)," is just what you need to sate your appetite for summer. Listen above and keep an eye out for the Patterns, out April 16.

Mark the 24th of April in your calendar folks, because we're putting on a concert at Pianos and would love for you to join us. Having been a fan since even before their debut album was released, I couldn't be more excited to announce that Brooklyn-via-Portland band Hockey will be headlining the evening with direct support from Monogold . Also playing are new favorites of ours, Black Light Dinner Party (who have an April residency at Pianos) and Late Guest At The Party . Listen to all four bands and buy [...]
