Since the whole idea of "selling out" is about as relevant and contemporary as woolly mammoths and the printed press, why not make a quid? Besides, nobody buys records anymore and staying in is the new going out. Anyway, that brief - albeit obtuse and conceited - rant aside, this is actually something I'm excited about. Jamie Hewlett (the visual side of Gorillaz) has already designed four trainers for Converse, so the pairing starts to make a lot of sense. To coincide with the four special edition trainers, Converse have [...]

Well, apparently 2012 really is the year for "less is more". While the trend has been making itself known for a few years now, it seems us Johnny-come-latelys are finally catching on. Step forward, Teebs ; a producer who appears to be marking himself out as a megastar in the making, hugely versatile and imaginative with his wildly unexpected takes on tracks from others as well as his own stark productions. Crafting echoey drum loops, shimmering synths, pitched up vocals and an ethereal yet minimal guitar sample, Teebs takes Shlohmo's 'wen [...]

Polish newcomer Umba has been making considerable waves recently with his slightly off-kilter take on bass-driven Techno and those oh-so-coveted arpeggiated synths. His new EP 'Not Too Young' amalgamates these different elements, forming a collection of bouncy Techno and House punctuated with dirty great slabs of bass. To sweeten the deal, Umba has made one track 'Acid Rain' available for free download. Disarmingly simple in its concept, 'Acid Rain' raises itself above the parapet with crisp drum patterns and a menacing bassline that swells and groans with the threat of attack constantly [...]

Champion has announced he will be releasing his next EP 'Crazy' through his own imprint Formula Records . The 123 will feature the vocal stylings of Princess Nyah as well as a remix from Terror Danjah & D.O.K. . For now it seems Formula are just releasing Champion's own records, but no doubt it will grow and perhaps we may even see some other young bucks having a crack at the whip in the future. But for now, there exist only three releases on the label - [...]

Born 5 September 1964 in Brooklyn, Saunderson is widely considered to be one of the big four who pioneered Detroit Techno, along with Juan Atkins and Derrick May (often referred to as the Belleville Three). Inspired by the burgeoning House music coming from Chicago, producers and DJs from New York and Detroit returned to their home cities to create what would become Electro and Techno respectively. Saunderson has experimented with a number of different aliases and groups over the years. In his early years he cut his teeth with Kreem (a partnership with long-time [...]

Aaron Funk hasn't been making the same waves he used to, but perhaps that's all about to change. His new EP 'Fool The Detector' is a new collection of four original tracks that will be released on his own Planet Mu imprint Timesig. It's the first release we've seen from Venetian Snares since last year's 'Cubist Reggae'. As ever, Funk is wildly outspoken when talking about the tracks for this EP: "It seems laughable that most people want to control their analog synths with midi, imposing their ridiculous choice of [...]

At the risk of becoming a Maribou State bulletin board, it has come to my attention that quixotic newcomer MAO has reimagined the titular track from the shit-hot gentlemen duo Maribou State's new EP 'Olivia'. There's not a great deal of information about this guy MAO (even his Facebook page was a bugger to find), but I think his efforts speak for themselves. The timing of this little bundle of joy is impeccable, with just days to go before 'Olivia' is officially released, Maribou State are on the promotional warpath. [...]

At just 19, Alfie McGibbons' output as Graphics is nothing short of staggering, with a wealth of singles and remixes under his belt. His latest EP 'Mama Grizzlies' is a dark, brooding affair with lots of percussive stabs and forboding synths. A track that didn't quite make it to the Sarah Palin-referencing 'Mama Grizzlies' EP, 'MacGrackleton' is probably McGibbon's most club-friendly work to date. Having said that, it's still thoroughly downtempo; shimmering vocal cuts echo over snappy synth pads and dubby underwater basslines. Download 'MacGrackleton' below and then grab the [...]

Bridging the gap between Juke and Jungle has been the modus operandi for these two producers for a significant portion of their careers. Machinedrum (above) explored the link on 'Boom' EP and Om Unit did the same as Philip D. Kick, so it seems only logical they pool their resources. As Dream Continuum they will be releasing 'Reworkz' EP, a three-track record that looks to the golden age of hardcore and jungle for inspiration, through Planet Mu on March 26. You can preorder your copy of 'Reworkz' [...]

It's been a long time coming but we're finally ready to give you the next installment of KOTJ Radio, this time with Siberian youngster Aleph taking on the hosting duties with a playful romp through the best of future Garage, Disco, Techno, Dubstep and Chillwave. Having already been featured on Tom Ravenscroft's show last week , Aleph is already well on his way to success. His unique take on the chillwave epidemic draws influences as disparate as House, R&B, Techno, Crunk, Disco, Grime and Dubstep. While that may sound bewildering, or [...]

Disco magnate Eli Escobar has been hibernating in his studio over the harsh winter months, squirreling away warm Disco synth lines and chopped, soulful vocals in preparation for his emergence from the warren. Alongside his usual Hip-Hop and NY Electro influences, Escobar ties in an element of classic 90s House for his new single 'Work It'. The package contains four original productions that explore Disco, House, Hip-Hop, Electro and Bass music. The EP is available now on 123 from the Dither Down shop and will be available [...]

I'd say it was pretty clear at this early stage that 2012 will belong exclusively to 19-year-old Gerry Read . His blistering XLR8R mix and skewed House tracks have already made him a firm favourite among fans, critics and DJs alike. Now he's working on what will be the first record for Delsin 's new sub label, though the imprint's name has yet to be divulged. What we do know, however, is that the new imprint will also be releasing records by Soul 223 and Peacefrog artist Steve Pickton in [...]

What's your musical background? How did you get started? Both of us started playing music around the age of 7. Zach started out taking drum and percussion lessons while Will began learning piano before he picked up the guitar at age 10. We grew up listening to all kinds of genres, and we were always very open to everything and enjoyed a lot of different styles music. As far as playing goes, we both grew up playing in a hand full of your classic high school rock bands, and school jazz ensembles, as well as spent a [...]

In an effort to draw out the season of giving, London-based producer Jamie Grind has put together a collection of as yet unreleased tracks called 'Free Tracks'. The release comes hot on the heels of some outstanding 2011 releases on Fortified Audio and Infrasonics. This may well be the first free EP of 2012 (probably isn't but I'll be damned if I'm going to check my facts) and it's a doozer. Four tracks of rattling basslines and almost-Footwork drum patterns comprise the new EP. If his current trajectory is anything [...]

It may seem an unlikely team at first glance, but Brenmar 's recent collaboration with DJ Rashad and DJ Manny makes more and more sense. The story goes that this tune was inspired by the real life killing of a teen in the U.S. over his shoes and is dedicated to "all those who have died for rocking the flyest kicks". It can then be assumed that Brenmar, Manny and Rashad recorded this piece so that everyone would destroy their squeaky clean shoes dancing and no one would be [...]

You may remember Radiohead compiling remixes of 'The King Of Limbs' by the likes of Blawan, Objekt, Four Tet and Jamie XX a while back. Well, in the past week or so a third Jamie XX remix of 'Bloom' emerged, but no second mix. We're promised a second remix in the future but in the mean time Young Turks have announced they will be releasing the third part of the remix on limited edition white label vinyl for 500 lucky buggers. If you can't wait until the record's [...]
