Ambassadeurs offers up new track ‘M.O.P.E.’ (because he’s nice like that)

Ambassadeurs offers up new track ‘M.O.P.E.’ (because he’s nice like that) Brighton-based producer Ambassadeurs (Mark Dobson to his mum) has offered up a free download of 'M.O.P.E.' for reaching 1000 likes on Facebook. The unreleased track comes in the build-up to the forthcoming 'Come A Little Closer'. It might be a good idea to have a wee browse on one of your favourite blog aggregators for another free download he's giving away, 'Rossler Master', as XLR8R seem to think a lot of it (quite right too) as it was ranked in their top 5 mp3s of the moment. You can grab your copy of the [...]

Listen to a new Roots Manuva track

Listen to a new Roots Manuva track Aside from working on Toddla T's sophomore album and contributing vocals to Speech Debelle's 'Blaze Up A Fire', ol' Rodney aka Roots Manuva has been working on his fifth studio album. The new album, '4everevolution', is supposed to be an extension of previous albums and possibly Manuva's best yet. There's more of the Dub, Conscious Hip-Hop and Grime but elements of Soul and even House music are drawn upon. Excitingly, though it includes production and performance from Steve Dub and the Easy Access Orchestra respectively, it is the most Roots-produced LP to date. There are [...]

KOTJ Radio | Episode 24: Rx

KOTJ Radio | Episode 24: Rx Once again, we're slightly late on this one but it's worth the wait. Originally from Philadelphia but now living in Brooklyn, Rx has been consistently ahead of the game, putting EPs and singles such as the free 'Bumble' EP on Nightshifters and the 'Kaleidoscope Island' EP on Subdepth. The 'Bumble' EP he released last year on Nightshifters was a free release that threatened to break the NS servers! 2000 hits in one day tells you this guy draws a serious crowd for a very good reason. As bass music takes a darker turn, incorporating [...]

Tropics – Parodia Flare [Review]

Tropics – Parodia Flare [Review] Central to this LP's sound is multi-instrumentalist Chris Ward's use of the Rhodes keyboard, a piece of equipment traditionally used in Jazz Fusion. Ward's use of the Rhodes keyboard would certainly explain the rich, almost supernatural air to tracks such as the opener 'Navajo'. The shimmering echoes emanating from the machine do have an air of familiarity, almost nostalgia, that feels simultaneously warm and cold. From what the blurb on Planet Mu tells us, Ward is more concerned with channeling his own musical history through new technologies than putting his own spin on any musical trends pervading [...]

Willy Joy returns with a ‘Woman Like Me’ remix EP

Willy Joy returns with a ‘Woman Like Me’ remix EP Top Billin appear to have the Midas touch at the minute, putting out hit after hit after hit. 2011 has been a big year for them, and it's only getting bigger with releases from the likes of Dillon Francis and Sir Nenis. In the spirit of such success they've just released the latest Willy Joy EP, a remix package for the recent 'Woman Like Me' single. You may remember the track from the shimmering house mix he put together for our podcast last year; a thoroughly enjoyable affair with unforgettable vocals and a relaxed production [...]

Download Roska’s remix of Ben Westbeech

Ben Westbeech 's sophomore release under his own name appears to be imminent as slowly but surely more information and teasers for the album are leaked. His first LP 'Welcome To The Best Years Of Your Life' is widely considered to be a groundbreaking release among those in the know. Already the remixes for the leading single 'Something For The Weekend' have been flooding the internet. Among the contributors are Gerry Read, Lee Foss & Robert James, The Revenge, Joey Negro and Westbeech's own Breach alias. The mix that stands out, however, is that of UK Funky debonair [...]

New Dillon Francis EP on Top Billin

New Dillon Francis EP on Top Billin Yet again I find myself blogging the living daylights out of Top Billin . This time it's LA-based Dillon Francis with a return to his unique take on Dubstep. You may be surprised to hear Dubstep on this record after his forray into Moombahton. Well, we're told the Westside EP (originally released by Mad Decent) was actually scheduled to be released after the 'Bossa Rocka' but Mad Decent decided the two releases would clash so this EP got pushed back. The title track is backed by the B-sides 'Fiyah' and 'Money Slot'. Remixes [...]

Alex D amps up Wiley’s latest single

Alex D amps up Wiley’s latest single Famed for his prolific approach to music production, Wiley has already been busy working on the follow-up to last year's brilliant 100% Publishing. What was originally intended to be an EP has turned into a full length album entitled 'Evolve Or Be Extinct'. The new album is to be headed up by the detuned bass-iness of 'Link Up'. Here Alex D takes on the tune, removes the bassline and replaces it with a thumping Techno bassline. It's a modest reworking, but one that ultimately serves it's purpose: to make a more danceable version of the single [...]

David Lynch announces debut album is imminent

David Lynch announces debut album is imminent David Lynch : Surrealist, filmmaker, writer, director, producer, artist and now musician? Well, that last one shouldn't come as too much of a surprise given his recent dalliances with electronic musicians and producers over the last few years. His relationship with music has always been a close one; whether it's working with Barry Adamson, Angelo Badalamenti and later Trent Reznor on the soundtracks to his films or in nurturing and promoting emerging and underground talents. So it seems only logical that the next step would be to cut out the middle men and create his own music. [...]

Justice announce details of new album

Justice announce details of new album Parisian Electro giants Justice have announced the release date and tracklist of their new album, 'Audio, Video, Disco'. The release date for their first full length since 20072s '†'. The new LP is said to be inspired by their beloved 70s prog-rock. Consisting of Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosna, the duo propelled themselves headlong into superstardom with their debut LP and have taken one twenty-fifth of a century to take a stab at building on their success. Of course, it's not entirely fair to say that; since then Auge helped his old chum Mr. Oizo [...]

Spotlight | Claude VonStroke

Spotlight | Claude VonStroke Having started Dirtybird at the ripe old age of 32, Claude VonStroke (aka Barclay Crenshaw) is something of a latecomer to the music scene. What's most interesting is his journey towards this career; starting as an aspiring filmmaker, Crenshaw soon discovered he was a dab hand at manipulating synthesizers and unsuccessfully attempted a career in the Drum & Bass scene. Supposedly his name derives from an in-joke, though what that joke was or whether it was even funny has yet to be confirmed. Dirtybird was thought up in 2002/3 - originally as a means [...]

The Field to release new LP this year

The Field to release new LP this year IDM wunderkind Axel Willner, aka The Field , has been busy recently putting the finishing touches to his third album, 'Looping State Of Mind'. The new collection is said to feature seven rather lengthy tracks and was recorded between Willner's home studio and Kompakt 's own Dumbo studios in Cologne. Willner says the following of his upcoming album: "Some of the ideas stretching back to the debut are still there [in the music], but we’ve just made a real attempt to grow the sound." The new album is to be released on Kompakt on [...]

Stream Four Tet’s new single

Stream Four Tet’s new single Continuing in light of the strength of the past few releases, Four Tet is once again putting his Text label to good use. The new single 'Locked' is something of a departure from past LPs, but continues in the vein of his recent remixes for the likes of Radiohead and Pantha Du Prince. The more conventional time signatures coupled with the focused drum patterns and catchy synths make for a much more danceable affair. That said, the laid back chord progressions and almost melancholic harmonies remind us why we love Hebden so much; giving way to [...]
