Bloc Party’s frontman Kele Okereke recently announced that Bloc Party are back and will be releasing a new album later this year. Kele has previously hinted at this news, but many were left skeptical after the release of his debut solo album'The Boxer' in 2010, and the announcement that he was too busy with his solo career. Enter and Shikari. 2 words that still manage to strike both fear and joy throughout my body. I saw them back in 2007 and as a band that are known for their human pyramids and their psychotic stage presence, you can tell that it was a gig that I will never forget. . The techno rock quartet will soon be t... Read more..

So far we have had a mild winter but I am sure the weather is now going to get colder and if possible wetter. As the weather is so changeable I normally decide to wear multiple layers instead of one or two chunky things. This is so if suddenly the weather brightens (unlikely) or I need to run anywhere (again unlikely) then I can de-layer at a moments notice. When preparing for the outside I start from the bottom up as I constantly have cold feet. For indoors I have the comfiest slippers which my boyfriend bought me for Christmas [...]

Genre: Gokrock What is it? Gokrock can be only described as HELL. Think The Feeling, McFly and what Maroon 5 used to be pre-Aguilera...the kind of band where you'd expect to find older music fans waving their arms along to the tunes, wearing half of Debenhams.... Read more..

2012 looks to be an exciting year for Enter Shikari. They have treated their fans to the radio debut of their new single ‘Arguing With Thermometers’ by Zane Lowe on Thursday's BBC Radio 1’s Breakfast Show (Lowe is standing in for Chris Moyles this week). The release of ‘Arguing With Thermometers’ signals the release of their impending third album A Flash Flood of Colour on January 16th (either that, or it’s to signal their dislike of going to the doctors?) The band has already performed the song on BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge back in October and here’s another chance... [...]

Scissor Sisters have to be everyones guilty pleasures, who can deny the brilliance of 'Laura' and their discotheque cover of 'Comfortably numb'? Well apparently alot of people can, their last album 'Night Work' although a critical success had very little commercial success and has thrust them into relative obscurity. So what is a band that has fallen into obscurity meant to do? Well they are meant to come back with a bang ... Read more..

It's difficult for me to say but I'm not sure I can relate to this single. I want to but I don't feel I can. Though this is probably built on my 'old man' taste and traditional views on music. That all said, the tune has been bathed in good production and layered efficively to create a sonically fantasti... Read more..
I openly admit I’m a ‘pigeon holer’, I like to categorise music. Heaven knows why. Perhaps it’s a sport or weird hobby. The point is I can’t quite do that that with this track. You could argue this Brooklyn based 5 piece join 80’s synth based pop with the shiny production used today, okay nothing new there but they use repetition to create structure and don’t build to an earth shattering poppy chorus. You could argue even fu... Read more..
It was with bated breath that I arrived in Leeds’ University Union, for I didn’t know quite what to expect. The support act, Vondelpark, were well into their set and had a sound similar James’ more mellow music, which provided a good start to the evening. The wait for James to come on was painful, for the crowd had been livened up and was ready to party. He opened with ‘Unluck’, which was a great choice to set the tone of the gig, continuing the positive vibe in the room. What impressed most about James’ performance was that he started [...]

Anyone that’s listened to Soko’s music before may be well aware of her quite distinct style of song writing. Her soft soothing voice, along with the ambience and tranquillity of the accompaniment, is somehow embedded with an obscure use of words to describe long, lost, youthful love; and it works to procure a loving sense of innocence which if anyone else was to sing, would quite frankly just be laughable.... To be plain, it’s the vocals that are what works for this song. The beautiful sound that Hayley (Hayley Mary, singer) can create is enchanting. The music that accompanies it though could come from anybody, which isn’t to say that it doesn’t fit with the vocals well. Until the chorus though, where t... Read more..

There is so much going on with this track it’s best to listen to it twice over. There is so much going on that realistically, it is best just to listen to it! The beginning sounds like The Horrors ‘Strange House’ era, you know, before they "developed". This evolves to sound more like The Rapture, but... Read more..

Used as we all are to poignant songs being played to death in talent shows, reality TV and supermarket playlists, it's not very often that a song on an advert catches me, especially when it's a cover of 'Wherever You Will Go' by radio-ready rockers The Calling. Like a... Read more..

The art of political song writing has seemed to fade away since its most influential time during the 1970s & 80s Punk era through the likes of The Clash and The Sex Pistols, but new single We Never Win by Whales In Cubicles, is a finely produced track that very much mirrors the agony and frustration felt at a time where society is feeling the pressure of a crumbling economy and a controversial government, very similar to the conditions present in the 70s & 80s. There are certain years which can truly be remembered as 'a good year for music'. 2011 has not been a dissapointment, providing us with some memorable debuts, career-saving come-backs and some pretty special break-through albums. I've taken it upon myself to compile a list of the 10 best albums of 2011 according to the writers of Never Enough Notes, unfortunately there's at least 50 albums which should have been mentioned but I'm not technically savvy enough to make a bigger list.
