Buchanan – Run Faster

Buchanan – Run Faster Melbourne rockers Buchanan have been a bit quiet lately - but that's not due to procrastination or laziness. They are currently working hard in the Studio readying their debut album. If it's anything like their latest single Run Faster, once finished it is going straight into the CD player and staying there for a long, long time! I was immediately hooked from the catchy guitar intro, leading into the verse showing no signs of anything less than a great song. The guitar and bass lines are most infectious, working synonymously with the [...]

Passport – Communicate

Passport – Communicate I'm about to expose you to something very raw, very catchy and very much awesome. Having made waves touring with Little Red , to be sitting modestly number three on the triple J unearthed charts, Passport (formely Passport For Amy ) have made giant steps on their journey for aural domination. Lakyn, Josh, Ben and James have taken their youthful, composed and enthusing nature, chosen an instrument to master, and spent hours in the studio interpreting and refining the sound that you're about to fall in love with. 'Communicate' is a blissful [...]

Glisk – Hermaion

Glisk – Hermaion The Adelaide electronic music duo of Anny Duff and Mike Radz, better known to the music world as Glisk have just finished and released their album called, Hermaion. To sum it up in one line - it is 34 minutes of pure bliss. There is no better way to put it. Emotion fuelled humming synths work harmoniously with the soothing vocal melodies, situated perfectly over the electronic beats. It is a thoroughly enjoyable and peaceful album that deserves to be listened to by all! You can download it for free/name-your-price from their bandcamp page. Very, very highly recommended [...]

Messrs – Moroccan Boy

Messrs – Moroccan Boy Messrs are back with a new release since their 2011 single Everyone Knows and it hasn't left my head all week! It's an upbeat dreamy kind of song with and it gives me the feeling of one of those epic carefree festival moments where everyone has their hands in the air and eyes closed, simply swaying to the music. There's just something about that driving jungle beat and reverbed staccato that gets me every time. A powerful yet lucid chorus works perfectly leading into the more dancy jungle beat and the guitars give off a strong [...]

World's End Press – Second Day Uptown

World's End Press – Second Day Uptown World's End Press have just released a new single Second Day Uptown on Liberation. The track was produced by Dan Whitford (Cut Copy) and mixed by Tony Hoffer (The Temper Trap, Phoenix, M83). It's the perfect mix of funky grooving Cut Copy-esque synths and catchy singable lyrics that make this an absolute killer track, not to mention it totally makes you want to get up and boogie down. I could definitely see this tune being belted out to thousands of bopping festival punters!

Django

Django Like something out of a 'Corona' commercial. Django aka Thomas James may not be as badass as the coffin dragging, machine gun toting cowboy he shares his alias with. However, he is an extremely talented singer songwriter from our great city of Melbourne. After listening to 'The Rabbit' two or three times, the beautiful guitar hooks become more and more gentle - leaving you vulnerable to Thomas' humbling lyrics. At just under three minutes in length, The Rabbit is intended to be deciphered by the listener; 'I've personally always [...]

Field Trip

Field Trip Looking back, school excursions were an excuse to sit next to the girl you liked on the bus. A pretext to chuck out your ham and cheese sandwich and buy some hot food with the money Mum gave you. Enter Field Trip, four guys from Melbourne using enchantingly deliberate guitar riffs and sentimental song writing to celebrate some of the best years of our lives. 'Cream' is their own interpretation of 'youth that is filled with excitement, eagerness and innocence.' With a sound parallel to that of Peter John & Bjorn , 'Give Me [...]

Neighbourhood Youth Single Launch at Workers Club 2Naight.

Neighbourhood Youth Single Launch at Workers Club 2Naight. Energetic guitar hooks, emotive builds and climbing vocals is the only way I can describe 'Stone' by Neighbourhood Youth . However, I'm sure there's a shitload of other great words you can use to define the four piece from Brunswick. Fortunately for you (yeah, YOU!) John, Jesse, Sam and Liam will be suiting up to release their first single 'Stone' tonight at the Workers Club, throwing around all sorts of verbs and adjectives for you to interpret and form opinion. For a measly ten dollars you'll also be subjected to Private Life, who, of [...]

What kind of relaunch? Cant Say.

Dune Rats - Pogo (Official)
March 23rd marks a new beginning for Can't Say . Encouraging amazing live music, cheap ass drinkz and one hella-of-a-party, Vault 8, Banana Alley becomes the new home for your favourite Friday night. With a plethora of legit brands joining the weekly Can't Say cause ( Poncho, The Ripe, Airwolf Paradise to name a few) it's literally a matter of days before your mind is blown. Curating the night are Brisbane beach-rock duo Dune Rats, who, in their short existence have played with the likes of Best Coast, The Drums [...]

Pear Shape

Pear Shape Let me warn you before listening to this, it's extremely catchy. It will be bouncing around your head for days on end. You'll shower with it, sleep with it and most importantly; you'll tell your friends about it. The Sydney based quartet, Pear Shape are an infusion of quirky songwriting and simple, stripped backed production. Taking aspiration from the likes of Vampire Weekend and Belle & Sebastian, Tom's song writing is genuine, relative and completely innocuous. ' The Coca Cola ' kid is an interpretation of a story we all know far [...]

Evan And The Brave

Evan And The Brave You know you've got a good thing when you; a. Making a banging truffle oil fettucine b. Have Tony Buchen produce your first single. c. Have the capacity to call your band 'Evan And The Brave' Influenced by 'a few older guys like America, The Band, Neil Young, Simon and Garfunkel,' Evan and The Brave are an all-singing/all-playing quintet out of Sydney. Their first single has seen Triple J rotation and is doing serious play count damage in my iTunes. The beauty of ' Lil Monsters' is the discovery [...]

Polographia

Polographia Introducing Polographia a collective of two Sydney lads whom started off as DJ's, spinning tunes just for fun. After getting a bit more serious about music and branching off into production they have definitely found their niche in the chill-wave department. They master perfectly the glitchy-groove beats accompanied with nostalgic styled synths and ambient samples that make their music so enjoyable. Creating tunes to rival such genre heavyweights as Toro y Moi and Washed Out , Polographia have managed to craft themselves an acclaimed debut EP that has slyly snuck its [...]

Argentina

Argentina No…Not the country; a lot more chilled than the country. Like many of the artists we feature, Alex Ritchie AKA Argentina is a modest bedroom producer with bounties of ability and creativeness. Although he shares naming rights with the second largest country in South America, Alex is ok with being hard to find; "Scarcity is rare these days, so there's something comforting to me about not leaving my footprints everywhere…" 'Bad Kids' exposes you to an infectious echo-y key hook early, leaving you completely vulnerable [...]

Halcyon Drive

Halcyon Drive I have the upmost respect for solo artists, especially those as modest as Michael Oechsle. After parting way's with his previous band Fastest Gun In The West, Michael has thankfully (for us!) pursued his passion for music as Halcyon Drive. Although i'm still determining exactly how to pronounce the new name (Hal-Sye-On?) i'm completely and utterly enthralled within the story he writes, and the sound that proceeds it. 'Attics' (the song) is an upbeat exploration of the mind and my favorite from the seven track debut piece. The authenticity and delivery of Michael's lyrics alongside the composition of acoustic guitar [...]

Viorre

Viorre - Weekends
Introducing two-piece band Viorre. They somewhat sit halfway between alternative and electronica with prominent influences from both genres perfectly crafted to create some really wholesome music. The synth delays and pads give the song a whole ambient feeling, only to be bought back down to earth with the pounding of the drums, these two opposite ends of the spectrum held together by perfect vocal melodies both inspiring and moving. These guys are definitely going to be on my radar because if Weekends is anything to go by, then their upcoming EP Younglife is set to be an amazing [...]
