Protestant Work Ethic - april, small town (from “rush for second place”, out now on Konkord Records) We’re not the biggest fans of anything with banjos - and besides cello, violin and horns, there is a lot of banjo on “rush for second place”. However, Protestant Work Ethic deserve a special mention for following The Beatles, Silverchair, Incubus, Freundeskreis and many others suit with their song about some Anna. And although I have never fallen in love with a married man (except for Robert Downey Jr.) and do not have a child, it still feels a little [...]

I will be honest with you; I am a huge fanboy of King Krule . He really is one of my favorite artists around: every time something new is released by Krule, I get excited like never before. To me, he is the absolute king of pronunciation; the way he mumbles and sings his mysterious lyrics are reason enough for me to become excited. The reviews about his latest Edgar The Beatmaker project were variable; though to me it was just a perfect snack while waiting for his [...]

The National 's Trouble Will Find Me won't dropped until May 21st. There is high anticipation on this album. I think this is one the standout tracks on the album. More of a upbeat rock track. Have a listen to Graceless . You excited for the new album?
Greg Lake takes fans inside one of Emerson Lake and Palmer's most spectacular 1970s-era concert stunts - when Keith Emerson would rise above the crowd playing a grand piano and turn 360 degrees. "It was a Steinway piano," Lake remembers, in the attached video. "It was a fake one, I have to admit now. It had no insides in it. [...]

If yesterday was the warm-up leg then today was the real deal: Dan Carson and George O'Brien ran around Brighton so you didn't have to. Brolin Photograph by Howard Melnyczuk Brolin absolutely flew through a Double Denim-curated set above a pub to kick-off day two. The loft room played host to a decent-sized crowd as the masked producer filled the stuffy attic with his [...]

Defined by angular chord stabs over the mathematic, shredding riffs usually expected from The Dillinger Escape Plan, lead single 'Prancer' turns out to be a pretty good representation of 'One Of Us Is The Killer' as a whole. Though there are plenty of technical riffs written large and small across this record, the overall feel is of something sharp but flat, a knife rather than a needle. 'Hero Of The Soviet Union' is a prime example; though there is an escalating motif that pulls up short of collapsing entirely, the bulk of the work is done with hyper-aggressive guitar rips [...]

Toronto's TEENAGE KICKS have released their latest six song EP 'Be On My Side', which finds the group expanding beyond the grungy power-pop of the first release. We like the description of the music which is likened to "the girl you meet in high school that you end up marrying ten years later. Their songs stay with you, and you grow to love more about them as time goes by". Shortly before the release of the EP, the band unveiled the Teenage Kicks Singles Club, a service that will deliver two new songs to subscribers every few [...]

The Weeknd's Abel Tesfaye is finally readying the release of his debut album proper, after the mixtape sagas of 2011 and 2012. 'Kiss Land' - the title track from it - is the first glimpse we've been given. A sprawling, eight-minute epic, it is a fascinating listen complete with twists and turns, odd samples and of course, Tesfaye's mesmerising croon. Amazingly, earlier this year The Weeknd announced an arena tour of the UK, a bold move for such a new artist but it pretty much encapsulates the confidence that drips throughout his work. Listen [...]

The second Big Apple edition of Electric Daisy Carnival NY kicked off yesterday without a hitch (though Nervo, one of the biggest acts on the bill had to cancel their appearance at the last minute). Closing out the festivities was a spectacular fireworks show. Have a look at some of what transpired in the photo gallery below. [...]
