
After missing Devotchka at ACL last year, I was determined to see the Denver-based band and I'm happy to report that they completely exceeded my expectations. The band style of Eastern European folk music music plays extremely well live, especially when each of the four members played at least two different instruments (the most impressive was the violin/accordion/piano player). I'd put the lead singer, Nick Urata's vocal performance up against anyone else at the festival (save perhaps Thom Yorke), with his vibrato greatly helping create the band's signature sound.
