There is a wonderfully peculiar shudder to Jolie Holland's voice that brings out the dry and dusty backdrop of her new album, The Living and The Dead . Perhaps, her most straight forward record to date melody wise; let that be no deterrent contrarians, for the slightly after-dark overtones are on The Living and The Dead are Holland's alone.
