The piano traces its origin to the early 1700's and is not as some might think a descended of reeded keyed instruments such as a melodian. It is a unique instrument, as it allows tonal quality to be determined not by the musician but rather their instrument's maker. Oddly enough, this makes the piano a simple instrument to play and an impossible instrument to master.
