Cat Power's got soul – just not her own. But two albums' worth of covers showed that she's a sympathetic interpreter of other people's songs, which seems to be a theme of her year. Just as her Jukebox album opened 2008, a double 10" single of versions closes it. First the downside; her version of Otis Redding's 'I've Been Loving You Too Long (To Stop Now)' doesn't, couldn't, work. A cover invites comparison but Otis is incomparable.
