The new big video effect that has people buzzing is called "Data Moshing." It's been most recently used in Kanye West's "Welcome to Heartbreak", who rushed it out to beat out another artist who planned on using the same effect. Ray Tintori used the same effect (before Kanye) for "Evident Utensil." In my opinion this video is ten times fresher.
