its hard not to listen to the deep dark woods' winter hours and not feel something, anything. the album's tones of despair, regret, and pure shit luck make for a pretty heavy record, but like will oldham, you will actually find hints of the opposite if you give it a chance to sink in. the lack a defining time frame as to when it was recorded was one of the first things that struck me most about winter hours . there is nothing about this record to suggest that it was recorded in 2008 and not 1958 [...]
