The History of Love by Nicole Krauss is such a beautiful, intricate, emotional novel that I will forgo my usual in-depth review style for fear of robbing potential readers of any the story's surprises. I will say that the three main characters are: Leo, an old Jewish curmudgeon who is unaware that a novel he wrote as a young man was published; Alma, a young girl named for one of his characters; and Alma's troubled and devout younger brother Bird.
