Blog: The Needle Drop

Even though the shoegaze project Dead Mellotron has a name that makes me frown, I have to come forward and say they're a band to watch . And I use the term "they" loosely, because this band is really one dude from Louisiana. Dead Mellotron is equal parts pop and sound. Once you machete through a jungle of guitars, the vocal melodies are pretty catchy; but good luck deciphering any lyrics. Here, reverb is basically an instrument, and the drums are loud enough to wake the neighbors. It's late 80s shoegze through a lo-fi lense. [...]
