Just the other day, I was talking to a friend about how Sonic Youth seems to have gone soft. It's not a popular opinion, I know, but the last album they made that really wowed me was 1995's Washing Machine . That isn't to say I've enjoyed their subsequent albums (I especially liked 2004's Sonic Nurse ). I just don't think they're innovating anymore as a band: Thurston seems wrapped up in running his label, Ecstatic Peace, and pursuing avant-noise side projects, while Kim's attention seems to be on her clothing label.
