The Raconteurs are presumably still in the midst of a pretty successful run, and between Brendan Benson's upcoming solo LP and this here project they're using this down time to sate their (extra)extracurricular passions. But nobody doubts the true color of Jack's stripes lie in his name, and until he makes another record with Meg everything else is just a high profile (and probably lucrative) stopgap.
